  • The 1100 foot [335 m] tall Wilshire Grand Center tower under construction in Los Angeles illustrates many key outrigger issues. The tower has a long, narrow floor plan and slender central core. Outrigger braces at three groups of levels in the tower help provide for occupant comfort during windy conditions as well as safety during earthquakes. Because outrigger systems are outside the scope of prescriptive code provisions, Performance Based Design (PBD) using Nonlinear Response History Analysis (NRHA) demonstrated acceptability to the Los Angeles building department and its peer review panel. Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) diagonals are used at all outrigger levels to provide stable cyclic nonlinear behavior and to limit forces generated at columns, connections and core walls. Each diagonal at the lowest set of outriggers includes four individual BRBs to provide exceptional capacities. The middle outriggers have an unusual 'X-braced Vierendeel' configuration to provide clear hotel corridors. The top outriggers are pre-loaded by jacks to address long-term differential shortening between the concrete core and concrete-filled steel perimeter box columns. The outrigger connection details are complex in order to handle large forces and deformations, but were developed with contractor input to enable practical construction.

  • In this paper, we propose CAMAR Core Platform as a framework for context-aware mobile augmented reality system development after brief introduction of limitations in the previous mobile augmented reality (AR). There have been many research activities on mobile AR due to recent enhancement of functionalities of mobile devices and development of relevant technologies to mobile augmented reality. In order to be used in ubiquitous computing environment, however, mobile AR systems should be able to utilize available contextual information, augment personalized contents, and share the augmented contents with other users. Thus, the proposed CAMAR Core Platform can provide such functionalities to those who want to develop CAMAR systems. To show the feasibility of the proposed framework, we show several applications based on the framework.

  • Many researches on intelligent system have been performed and various intelligent algorithms have been developed, which are effective under an assumed specific environment and purpose. But in an real environment, the performance of these algorithms can be largely degraded. In this Paper, we Proposed an Evolvable and Reconfigurable(ERI) Architecture based on intelligent Macro Core(IMC) so that various and new algorithms can be easily added incrementally and construct the reconfigured intelligent system easily. We apply the proposed ERI Architecture to face detection and recognition system to show its usefulness.

  • Epileptic Seizure is a popular brain disease in the world. It affects the nervous system and the activities of brain function that make a person who has seizure signs cannot control and predict his actions. Based on the Electroencephalography (EEG) signals which are recorded from human or animal brains, the scientists use many methods to detect and recognize the abnormal activities of brain. Tucker model is investigated to solve this problem. Tucker decomposition is known as a higher-order form of Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), a well-known algorithm for decomposing a matric. It is widely used to extract good features of a tensor. After decomposing, the result of Tucker decomposition is a core tensor and some factor matrices along each mode. This core tensor contains a number of the best information of original data. In this paper, we used Tucker decomposition as a way to obtain good features. Training data is primarily applied into the core tensor and the remained matrices will be combined with the test data to build the Tucker base that is used for testing. Using core tensor makes the process simpler and obtains higher accuracies.

  • The current 2002 Indonesian Seismic Code consists of prescriptive criteria that are intended to result in buildings capable of providing certain levels of performance. However, the actual performance capability of buildings is not assessed as part of the code procedures. Several analysis procedures are allowed, and the state of practice is to use the RSA with six-zone seismic map developed for 475-year earthquake. This code is being revised and will adopt many of the ASCE7-10 provisions and 2475-year earthquake for MCE. The growth of tall buildings compels engineers to look for more optimal lateral system. The use of RC core wall as single system has been adopted by very few engineering firms, which is allowed in the current code but will no longer be the case if the new one is in effect. Other innovative structural system such as core wall and outrigger is not addressed in the proposed new code. Engineers must then resort to NLRHA. Currently, one 50-story building under construction using RC core wall and outrigger has been designed with RSA and employing capacity design principles, then evaluated using NLRHA per TBI Guidelines. Based on the evaluation, the performance of the 50-story building generally still meets the criteria of the TBI Guidelines. The result of the case study is presented in this paper.

  • Recently multiple process communicate together. They share resource and information for cooperation in complicated programming environment. Kernel provides IPC (Inter -Process Communication) for communication with each other process. Shared Memory is a technique that many processes can access to identical memory area in the Linux environment. In this paper, we propose a performance improvement method of shared memory in the dual-core embedded linux system which is consist of different core and different operating system. We construct the MPC2530F (ARM926F+ARM946E) linux system and measure the performance therein. We attempt a performance enhancement in each CPU for each process which uses a shared memory.

  • Optical transmission system related to network infra of ubiquitous is a essential bridge technique between metro network and access point. So, it is need to develop this technique. In this paper, we develop 1Gbps SNMP optical transmitter/receiver system based on 1 core ring-type WDM PON. The developed system can reduce number of optic fiber and doesn't need extra transmitter/receiver. Also, this system can extend nodes owing to many node per wavelength, acts rapidly against security cutting, and acts independent of protocols.

  • Expensive silver powder is used to form electrodes in most IT equipment, and recently, many attempts have been made to lower manufacturing costs by developing powders with Ag-Ni or Ag-Cu core-shell structures. This study examined the sintering behavior of Ag-Ni electrode powder with a core-shell structure for silicon solar cell with high energy efficiency. The electrode powder was found to have a surface similar to pure Ag powder, and cross-sectional analysis revealed that Ag was uniformly coated on Ni powder. Each electrode was formed by sintering in the range of $500^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$, and the specimen sintered at $600^{\circ}C$ had the lowest sheet resistance of $5.5m{\Omega}/{\Box}$, which is about two times greater than that of pure Ag. The microstructures of electrodes formed at varying sintering temperatures were examined to determine why sheet resistance showed a minimum value at $600^{\circ}C$. The electrode formed at $600^{\circ}C$ had the best Ag connectivity, and thus provided a better path for the flow of electrons.

  • Corrugated-core sandwich panels are prevalent for many applications in industries. The researches performed with the aim of optimization of such structures in the literature have considered a deterministic approach. However, it is believed that deterministic optimum points may lead to high-risk designs instead of optimum ones. In this paper, an effort has been made to provide a reliable and robust design of corrugated-core sandwich structures through stochastic and probabilistic multi-objective optimization approach. The optimization is performed using a coupling between genetic algorithm (GA), Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and finite element method (FEM). To this aim, Prob. Design module in ANSYS is employed and using a coupling between optimization codes in MATLAB and ANSYS, a connection has been made between numerical results and optimization process. Results in both cases of deterministic and probabilistic multi-objective optimizations are illustrated and compared together to gain a better understanding of the best sandwich panel design by taking into account reliability and robustness. Comparison of results with a similar deterministic optimization study demonstrated better reliability and robustness of optimum point of this study.
