This paper presents structural design optimization of a micro milling machine for minimum weight and compliance using a genetic algorithm with dynamic penalty function. The optimization procedure consists of two design stages, which are the static and dynamic design optimization stages. The design problem, in this study, is to find out thickness of structural members which minimize the weight, the static compliance and the dynamic compliance of the micro milling machine under several constraints such as dimensional constraints, maximum compliance limit, and safety factor criterion. Optimization results showed a great reduction in the static and dynamic compliances at the spindle nose of the micro milling machine in spite of a little decrease in the machine weight.

The important dynamic specifications in the aluminum automobile body design are the vibrations and crashworthiness in the views of ride comforts and safety. Thus, considerable effort has been invested into improving the performance of mechanical structures comprised of the interactive multiple sub-structures. Most mechanical structures are complex and are essentially multi-criteria optimization problems with objective functions retained as constraints. Each weight factor can be defined according to the effects and priorities among objective functions, and a feasible Pareto-optimal solution exists for the criteria-defined constraints. In this paper, a multi-criteria design based on the Pareto-optimal sensitivity is applied to the vibration qualities and crushing characteristics of front structure in the automobile body design. The vibration qualities include the idle, wheel unbalance and road shake. The crushing characteristic of front structure is the axial maximum peak load.

In this paper, we propose a modified back-stepping control method in view of the dynamic model of mobile manipulator has the nonholonomic constraints, these constraints should be considered to design a tracking controller for the mobile manipulator. The conventional back-stepping controller includes the dynamics and kinematics of the mobile robot systems. and the modified adaptive back0stepping method is applied to constructing the controller. The proposed controller can realize the tracking trajectory of the reference path. The efficiency and robustness of this control method is demonstrated by the simulation.

Purpose - This paper empirically investigates what factors contribute to management decisions by corporate governance in the Korean stock market. In the paper, dividends and investments were imployed as management decisions and major stockholders' shares and foreign investors' shares were used as corporate governance. Research design, data, and Methodolog - Samples are constructed by manufacturing firms listed on the stock market of Korea as well as those who settle accounts in December from 2001 to 2018. Financial institutions are excluded from the sample as their accounting procedures, governance and regulations differ. This study adopted the panel regression model to assess the sample construction including yearly and cross-sectional data. Results - This results support the literatures that major shareholders showed insignificance to dividends, positive significance to investment in financially unconstrained firms and negative significance to investment in financially constrained firms. Whereas foreign investors favor firms to increase dividends but they decrease investments only in financially constrained firms. Conclusion - This paper documented evidence that financial constrained firms use dividends for their investment and foreign investors decrease investments under financial constraints. But for dividends decisions, foreign investors give significant positive impacts irrespective of financial constraints.
Free-form blades are widely used in different industries, such as aero-engine and steam turbine. Blades that are damaged during service or have production deficiencies are usually replaced with new ones. This leads to the waste of expensive material and is not sustainable. However, material and costs can be saved by repairing of locally damaged blades or blades with localized production deficiencies. The blade needs to be further machined after welding process to reach the aerodynamic performance requirements. This paper outlines an adaptive location approach of repaired blade for model reconstruction and NC machining. Firstly, a mathematical model is established to describe the localization problem under constraints. Secondly, by solving the mathematical model, localization of repaired blade for NC machining can be obtained. Furthermore, a more flexible method based on the proposed mathematical model and the continuity of the deformation process is developed to realize a better localization. Thirdly, by rebuilding the model of the repaired blade and extracting repair error, optimized tool paths for NC machining is generated adaptively for each individual part. Finally, three examples are given to validate the proposed method.

Following the global financial crisis, the global value chain contracted, and characteristics of "reverse globalization" of the economy and trade gradually emerged. This is due to the term "reverse globalization" referring to a shift away from globalization. Within a short period of time, the phenomenon known as "reverse globalization" developed as an inescapable obstacle, coinciding with the development and dissemination of the COVID-19 virus. At some time in the distant future, the "reverse globalization" of economic trade and the "globalization" of the digital economy will co-dominate the shifting trend of the global economic landscape. This will happen gradually over time. The goal of this research is to look at the minor changes that happened in the methods and techniques used by the economic mechanism known as "globalization against the flow." It employs Chinese smart manufacturing companies as a model and proposes a digital drive model to investigate the prospects and constraints of smart manufacturing technology enterprise innovation development under "reverse globalization," with the goal of establishing a digital innovation development path. The theoretical insights given in this study have the potential to serve as a reference for China as it attempts to build a new growth pattern based on a double-cycle and promote a new type of globalization.

A single vision system limits the ability to accurately understand the spatial constraints and interactions between robots and dynamic workers caused by gantry robots and collaborative robots during production manufacturing. In this paper, we propose a 3D pose registration method for dynamic workers based on a multi-domain vision system for safety monitoring in manufacturing environments. This method uses OpenPose, a deep learning-based posture estimation model, to estimate the worker's dynamic two-dimensional posture in real-time and reconstruct it into three-dimensional coordinates. The 3D coordinates of the reconstructed multi-domain vision system were aligned using the ICP algorithm and then registered to a single 3D coordinate system. The proposed method showed effective performance in a manufacturing process environment with an average registration error of 0.0664 m and an average frame rate of 14.597 per second.

In this study, the 3D printing technique called design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) that is widely used in various industries was applied to marine leisure ships of equipment. The DfAM for the stanchion for crew safety was applied to the equipment used in an actual recreational craft. As design constraints, the design alternatives were not to exceed the safety and weight of the existing stainless steel material, which were reviewed, and the production of a low-cost FFF-type 3D printing method that can be used even in small shipyards was considered. Until now, additive manufacturing has been used for manufacturing only prototypes owing to its limitations of high manufacturing cost and low strength; however, in this study, it was applied to the mass production process to replace existing products. Thus, a design was developed with low manufacturing cost, adequate performance maintenance, and increased design freedom, and the optimal design was derived via structural analysis comparisons for each design alternative. In addition, a life-cycle assessment based on the ISO 1404X was conducted to develop sustainable products. Through this study, the effectiveness of additive manufacturing was examined for future applications in the shipbuilding industry.

Based on the survey, this paper examines entrepreneurs' attitude toward corporate lending in Pusan region. The results show that the relationships of manufacturing firmswith banks are different from those of non-manufacturing firms. These are mainly due to the differences in the operational grounds between them. The non-manufacturing firms have their operational ground in Pusan, thus they have local banks as their mainbanks and depend heavily on mainbanks' credits. However the business network of the local banks is not broad enough to satisfy the manufacturing firms financial service needs. Therefore, the manufacturing firms maintain close relationship with not only regional local banks but also other banks. The results of the study demand the local banks to produce information of the regional firms and to monitor them more widely and tightly. One of the important contributions of this paper is that it has succeeded in making clear the importance of relationship banking of the local banks.

Up-to-date manufacturing companies have faced a market-driven environment of pull production order. There should be a difference in operating manufacturing resources according to the type, quantity, and delivery time of manufactured products, because the process situation in pull production is changed by customer orders. And it should be taken into account from the stage of preparing for production such as process design and the placement and utilization of manufacturing resources. However, the feasibility of production plans is limited because most of small manufacturing businesses make production/supply plan of the parts and products assuming that equipment abilities in scheduling is sufficient without managing process standard information systemically. In this study, a discrete event simulation system based on BOM (bill of material), that is F-OPIS (online productivity innovation system), is introduced and a case study on application of the system leading to improving productivities is presented. F-OPIS deals with a decision-problem on production management and it is specialized for small-and- medium sized manufacturing companies. The target company of this case study is a typical small-and-medium sized manufacturing company in Korea, that produces various machined parts. The target company adopts make-to-stock production management to prevent tardy delivery because of fluctuations in demand. Therefore, it is required to apply an efficient inventory control solution for improving productivities. In this paper, based on the constraints of working capacity of manufacturing resources, the bottleneck process is analyzed as production conditions are changed. Consequently, an improvement plan is proposed, that eventually enhances overall utilization rates of resources in the bottleneck process and reduces overall production lead-time and inventory level.
