A Study on the Employment and Career Preferences of College Students Majoring in Physical Therapy for Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (물리치료 전공 대학생들의 정형도수 물리치료 분야의 취업 및 진로 선호도 조사)

  • Background: This study aimed to determine the employment and career preferences for orthopedic manual physical therapy for college students majoring in physical therapy. Methods: The subjects were 267 college students majoring in physical therapy, and a survey was conducted both online and offline. The collected data were statistically processed to analyze employment and career according to the general characteristics. Results: Interest, temporal satisfaction of education, and the need for special lectures on orthopedic manual physical therapy were significantly different by sex. There were significant differences in sex, grade, and age with regard to whether they go to graduate school related to orthopedic manual physical therapy and whether to study more about orthopedic manual physical therapy. Conclusions: The educational curriculum must be reinforced for students through systematic curriculum reorganization reflecting their preference for orthopedic manual physical therapy.

  • Background: This study aims to provide basic data for college students' employment and career choice by investigating their job perception of orthopedic manual physical therapy, one of the physical therapy fields of physical therapy majors. Methods: A total of 267 subjects were surveyed on occupational awareness among college students majoring in physical therapy in Gwangju. The collected data were analyzed for frequency analysis and cross-sectional study using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. A chi-square test was conducted to determine if there were any significant differences. Results: As a result of the survey on the recognition of orthopedic manual physical therapy, interest in orthopedic manual physical therapy was high, but the method of treatment, effectiveness and information were insufficient. Conclusions: For the awareness and education of students' orthopedic manual physical therapy, schools and institutional organizations need education and special lectures on orthopedic manual physical therapy for students.

  • Purpose : this purpose of this study is to research manual therapy of korea. Methods : This is literature study with books, articles, and web site for manual therapy of korea Results : Manual therapy of korea is prevention and treatment a disease with stimulated in body by hand. Manual therapy of korea include jiap, anma, chuna, body correction, massage and so forth. Conclusion : Manual therapy of korea has been developed by means of variety method and its scientific effects has been proven. Therefore, Manual therapy of korea must development as filed of physical therapy.

  • Purpose : This article has to compare and clarify the Korea traditional manual therapy and foreign. Methods : This is a literature study with books and books for Korea traditional manual therapy. Results : Korea traditional manual therapy is a species Koryo medicine that is prevention and treatment a disease stimulated in body one part by hand. It has included yacson, doin, sooki, massage, digital compression and chuna. And trend of manual therapy cover the whole medical in Europe, but America has two categories which is the neurologic manual therapy and the orthopedic manual therapy. Conclusion : Korea had been accepted manual therapy which was operated in foreign. This foreign manual therapy was very similar to korea. So it is necessity for a systematic and comparative study for korea traditional manual therapy.

  • As one of the effective therapies for musculoskeletal diseases, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been watched with keen interest. In Korea, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been widely spread and applied in the field of clinical medicine since the mid-nineties. Since then, the clinical efficacy of orthopedic manual physical therapy has been approved, and orthopedic manual physical therapy has been gradually spread in the filed of clinical medicine. However, it should be noted that clinically available therapies are not well recognized. Therefore, this study was conducted to allude diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of these therapies including deep tissue massage, manual therapy, Cyriaxs method combining manual reduction and chemotherapy, Kaltenborn-Evjenth method based on concave-convex rule for joint and soft tissue, Maitlands method based on patients sign and symptom, stress due to the posture, intraarticualr disturbance and Mckenzies method for pain due to the dysfunction.

Survey on The Current Status of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in South Korea (한국의 정형도수물리치료 실태조사)

  • Background: The purpose of this survey was to know the current states and future suggestions of orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) system on Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were directly distributed to physical therapists who participated in the training and collected at the educational or clinical site. The questionnaire was sent and collected by E-mail. Data were classified into two groups, metropolitan and city, and clinical experience was grouped into four groups. Then, 337 subjects (male: 195, female: 142) were recruited from us. Results: The states of Korea, 72.1% of therapists have been executed orthopedic manual physical therapy, the fee of one treatment was 50,000 ~ 60,000 Korean won, the time of treatment was 21~30 minutes, the number of patients of one day was under 9. The suggestion of future orthopedic manual physical therapy of Korea, 83.4% of therapist were agreed with manual physical therapy system, the education center of certificate for manual therapist was manual therapy academic group, the career of clinical experiences was 3 years, the training hours was more 300 hours, academic degree was diploma. Conclusion: In the future orthopedic manual physical therapy proposal, the environment and education system differ from country to country, but Korean OMPT agreed to an accredited orthopedic manual physical therapy system and wanted systematic management.

Self stretching and manual therapy influence on lunge test (자가 스트레칭과 도수치료가 런지 테스트에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : To determined the effect of self-stretching and manual therapy on ankle joint about ROM and persisting effect. Method : Twenty participants(6 male, 14 female) ramdomly divided into self-stretching and manual therapy group. Each participant started with lunge test then self-stretching and manual therapy intervention was performed. After intervention lunge test was performed again. Last lunge test was performed after 30 minute break. Result : Result of lunge test showed both self-stretching and manual therapy group have significant difference in immediate increase of ROM and persistence effect(p<0.05). However, persistence effect of each group did not show significant difference(p>0.05). Conclusion : Manual therapy and well-designed self-stretching by therapist showed the effect in increase ROM.

  • This study largely compared the general concept, examination, and treatment of various manual therapy techniques. These various manual therapy techniques, however, are still in the developing stage, so no one approach is yet perfect. Clinically, manual therapy techniques are widely being used to treat the dysfunctional neuromusculoskeletal with the common practice of mobilization, manipulation, exercise, and patient education. Anyone of the above approaches must not be selectively chosen as the best method. Manual therapists should treat patients in the clinic with the full knowledge of these proper manual therapy techniques depending on the patient's symptoms in each of the anatomical, biomechanical, and pathological views.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest reasonable medical insurance fees for orthopaedic manual therapy. This medical insurance fees include of direct and indirect costs. The reasonable medical insurance fees of orthopaedic manual therapy are as follows. 1. Spinal manual therapy fee is 10.173 won. 2. Upper and lower extremity manual therapy fee is 10,173 won. 3. Hand and foot manual therapy fee is 6.782 won. 4. Hand and visceral manual therapy fee is 6.782 won.

  • The age of specialization is upon physical therapy, as evidenced by the many special interest group. One of the special interest is manual therapy, which is the study of neurology, biomechanic, behavior science and pathology as well as the application of evaluative and treatment techniques of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Trend of manual therapy cover the whole medical in Europe. but America has two categories which is the neurologic manual therapy and the orthopedic manual therapy. The neurologic manual therapy was integrated with theory of PNF, Bobath technique, Vojta which is neurophysiologic approach concept. It is called motor control. A key aspect of the motor control requires a through knowledge of neurobiologic, biomechanic, and behavioral science. The orthopedic manual therapy runs to the evaluation and treatment of joints and their surrounding structures increase or decrease mobility and Fain control. In this article has to define and clarify the basic concepts of orthopedic manual therapy by comparing the general concepts, evaluation schemes, and treatment procedures of John McM Mennell, James Cyriax, Geoffrey Maitland, Freddy Kaltenborn and Ola Grimsby.
