The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between lifestyles and clothing benefits pursuit. A questionnaire was developed to measure lifestyle and clothing benefits sought. The questionnaire was distributed and collected from 131 college female students in Tokyo. The data was analyzed by percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, reliability test, MANOVA and ANOVA by SPSS package. The lifestyles of the respondents were classified into five types such as recreational-oriented, fashion-oriented, progressive-oriented, intentional purchasing, and economics-oriented type. And clothing benefits pursuit was classified into five types such as individuality-pursuit, brand-pursuit, convenience-pursuit, fashion -pursuit, and coordination/figure flaws compensation-pursuit. The result of this study were as follows; 1) All of three lifestyle groups of appearance-oriented type, fashion-oriented type, intentional purchasing type had an inclination for individuality-pursuit, brand-pursuit, fashion-pursuit, and not an inclination for convenience-pursuit. 2) The higher the fashion-oriented and intentional purchasing, and the lower the progressive-oriented and economics-oriented were, the higher was individuality-pursuit. 3) The higher progressive-oriented and the lower recreational-oriented were, the higher convenience-pursuit was. 4) The brand-pursuit, convenience-pursuit, and fashion-pursuit were not shown to have the significant differences according to intentional purchasing group.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine children's disclosure to parents in different domains of their daily activities. Methods: The participants were 340 children(100 kindergarteners, 120 3rd graders and 120 6th graders in elementary school) and their mothers in Seoul and Gangwon-do, Korea. The data was analyzed with one-way ANOVA, paired t-test, and MANOVA. Results: First, 3rd graders and 6th graders experienced more daily activities than kindergarteners in most domains. Second, 3rd graders disclosed more than kindergarteners and 6th graders in most domains. The response of mothers with 3rd graders was most similar to their children's response about children's disclosure to parents. Third, the reasons for nondisclosure of children were different according to domains. The reasons for nondisclosure of children that mothers perceived were different from those of their children, especially in the school(institute)-related domain. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study indicated that the aspects of children's disclosure to parents were different according to domains of their daily activities based on developmental stages. Mothers perceived their children's disclosure differently compared to their children. The results suggest that it is necessary to approach children's disclosure to parents based on domains of daily activities and developmental stages.
This study was carried out to compare the quality of licorices from various cultivating areas. licorice samples used in this study were collected from North-east and Sinkiang area in China, Mongolia, Uzvekistan and Kazahstan. The chemical components of licorice samples were analyzed and the signal patterns of the electracts were detected by the electronic nose. Contents of glycyrrhizin and glicyrrhizic acid, the key components of licorice were distributed in the region of 16.7~25.2% and 5.8~10.2%, respectively and were various according to the samples of the collected areas. In glycyrrhizin contents, root of Sinkiang showed the lowest value of 16.7%, and that of North-east the highest of 25.2%. In glycyrrhizic acid contents, root of Sinkiang showed the lowest of 5.8 %, and Kazahstan showed the highest of 10.2 %. Composition ratio of glycyrrhizin to glycyrrhizic acid was not always limear. As other components is other components affecting quality, contents of ash, starch and gums were 2.4~3.7%, 0.2~3.9%, respectively. When the headspace volatiles of licorices were analyzed using Electronic Nose System and the obtained data were interpreted using statistical method of MANOVA, characteristic patterns of licorices were different from each other according to collected area and its p value showed 0.0001. These results suggest that licorices may be discriminated from the collected areas by using Electronic Nose System.
The present study was designed to answer the following questions: 1) Is there and relationship between the adolescent's sex role identity and perceived parent behavious? 2) Is there any gender differences in perceived parent behavious? 3) Is there any interaction effect between sex role identity and gender in perceived parent behaviors? 109 male and 101 female undergraduates from the five universities in Seoul served as subjects in this investigation. Subjects were administered the Parent Behavior From (PBF) and the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) in counterbalanced order. A4 (sex-role identity)×2(gender) multivariate analysis of variance was performed for the perceived paternal and maternal behaviors separately. The simultaneous confidence intervals for pairwise comparison were followed when the MANOVA was significant. In testing all hypotheses, .05 was used as a significance level in this study. For the perceived paternal behavious, 1) The androgynous group, compared with the undifferentiated group, reported greater father warmth, active involvement, greater encouragement of cognitive independence, cognitive curiosity, cognitive competence, achievement control, and conformity. 2) The androgynous individuals showed higher father warmth, congitive independence, curiosity, and cognitive competence than the feminine individuals. 3) The androgynous individuals were found to have significantly higher father warmth than the masculine individuals. For the perceived maternal behaviors, there was a significant difference between gender groups in conformity. Daughters reported higher conformity than sons. The interaction effect between sex-role identity and gender, however, was not found to be significant.
Purpose: As the importance of software has been emphasized recently, the size of the software market is continuously expanding. The development of the software market is being adversely affected by software piracy. In this study, we try to classify countries around the world based on the macro environmental factors, which influence software piracy. We also try to identify the differences in software piracy for each classified type. Design/methodology/approach: The data-driven approach is used in this study. From the BSA, the World Bank, and the OECD, we collect data from 1990 to 2015 for 127 environmental variables of 225 countries. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ analysis, item-to-total correlation analysis, and exploratory factor analysis derive 15 constructs from the data. We apply two-step approach to cluster analysis. The number of clusters is determined to be 5 by hierarchical cluster analysis at the first step, and the countries are classified by the K-means clustering at the second step. We conduct ANOVA and MANOVA in order to verify the differences of the environmental factors and software piracy among derived clusters. Findings: The five clusters are identified as underdeveloped countries, developing countries, developed countries, world powers, and developing country with large market. There are statistically significant differences in the environmental factors among the clusters. In addition, there are statistically significant differences in software piracy rate, pirated value, and legal software sales among the clusters.
The purpose of this study was to investigate young children's environmental literacy level and variables that affected their environmental literacy. Of the students, 969 in third grade from big cities, medium sized cities and rural areas participated in this study, and their environmental literacy was measured through 69 questions consisted of 24 items for knowledge, 22 for attitude, 16 for behavior, and 7 for skills with 13 demographic variables. Eighty minutes were given to answer the questions. Statistical analysis was conducted on each of the categories (knowledge, attitude, behavior, skill) that make up environmental literacy and multivariate analysis variance (MANOVA) was also conducted to investigate variables that affect environmental literacy. Results indicated that the correlation between attitude and behavior is the highest. Also, it was found that a demographic variable might affect one, two, or sometimes all categories of the environmental literacy.
The phenomenon of vocal vibrato may be regarded as an acoustic representation of one of the most rapid and continuous changes in pitch and intensity that the human vocal mechanism is capable of producing. Singers are likely to use vibrato effectively to enrich their voice. The purpose of this study was to obtain acoustic measurements (vF0 and vAm) of 45 subjects (15 trot and 15 ballad singers and 15 non-singers) and to compare acoustic measurements of the vowel /a/ produced by 3 groups on 2 voice sampling conditions (prolongation and singing of /a/). Thirty singers of trot and ballad were selected by a producer and a concert director working for the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System). The MDVP was used to measure the acoustic parameters. A two-way MANOVA was used for statistical analyses. The results were as follows; Firstly, there was no significant difference among the 3 groups in vF0 and vAm in prolongation of /a/, but in singing voice, there was a significant difference among 3 groups in vF0 and vAm. Secondly, there was an interaction between music genre and voice sampling condition in vF0, and vAm. Finally, trot singers sing with more vibrato than ballad singers. It was concluded that it is very important to analyze singers' voice including various voice conditions (prolongation, reading, conversation, and singing) and to identify differences of singing voice characteristics among music genre.
The purpose of this study was to develope a housing suitable for the Korean elderly by analyzing traditional minds on housing of the middle-aged. Data were collected by the questionnaire from 696 middle-aged in 40's and 50's living in Chinju area. Collected data were analyzed by using statistical methods of One-Way MANOVA, scheffe's test, and multiple regression analysis which were processed with SAS. Following are results. 1) Middle aged people had four main traditional factors in their minds: a propensity toward traditional indoor atmosphere, traditional housing space, traditional housing value and ceremony space & traditional life style. 2) Socio-demographically, a propensity toward traditional housing space and ceremony space & traditional life style were significantly different between sexes, but not by educational level and income. A propensity toward traditional indoor atmosphere and ceremony space & traditional life style were different between housing types. 3) However, there were a significant difference between variables such as sex, educational level, income and housing type in residential demands for the elderly life. 4) Sex, housing type, a propensity toward traditional housing space and traditional housing value influenced residential demands for the elderly life I indoor and outdoor environments, nearby facilities and available services all of which were minor items in the demand for the elderly life.
Although the prevalence of divorce in South Korea has greatly increased since late 1990s, the impact of divorce on the parents of adult children in Korean families has received very little attention. This is particularly unfortunate because of the emphasis in Korean culture on family cohesion and obligations. To address these issues, we explored in our study the well-being of the parents of divorced adult children as well as intergenerational relationships among the members of Korean families. Total 113 parents participated (39 males and 74 females), age ranged from 46 to 65. Of the total participants surveyed, 29% were parents of divorced children (N=33), with the remainder having children in intact marriages (N=80). The measures examined four areas: (1) demographics, (2) parental psychological well-being, (3) intergeneration relationships, and (3) parental perception of their adult child's marital experience. A series of MANOVA and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted. Our findings indicate important differences between parents of divorced children and parents of non-divorced children on overall well-being, interpersonal relationships, and parental perception, which is consistent with previous studies. Parents of divorced children in this study also reported lower level of intergenerational relationships compared to parents of nondivorced children. Parent-grandchild relationships seem to be particularly important for parental well-being. In addition, we found an unexpected association between parents and their relationship with their former children inlaws. More detailed discussion was discussed.
The purpose of this study was to categorize brand-switching behaviors into subdivided groups by variety seeking and perceived differences between brands and to compare and to analyze brand-switching motive perceived differences between brands clothing-involvement and buying price among the subdivided groups. The subjects were 343 female and male to have jean pants-buying experience in their age of 20-29 living in Seoul and Kyunggi province. For the analysis of the data mean frequency t-test $\chi^2$-Test Factor analysis MANOVA Duncan-test were conducted and the cronbach's $\alpha$ has been calculated to measure the reliability The results are as follows: 1. brand-switching behaviors are categorized into 4 groups by strength of variety-seeking and perceived differences between brands that are small or large which are habitual brand switchers internal derived brand-switchers external derived brand-switchers and combined derived brand-switchers. 2. Among the 4 sub-groups there were significant difference in brand-switching motive according to factors such as change-seeking needs and price & promotion. And there were significant differences in perceived differences between brands according to factors such as apparel design clothing -symbolism fitness except apparel shop. 3. According to strength of variety-seeking levels of clothing-involvement and buying price have increased Combined derived brand-switchers have totally the strongest variety-seeking and the highest clothin-involvement and they purchase the highest priced jean-pants of the other types of consumers.
