  • The decoupling control using state feedback was once intensively studied during 1960's by many researchers. However, this control scheme was sensitive to the disturbance and Parameter variations. SMC(sliding mode control) is known as a robust control methodology to overcome such a disturbance. In this paper. the decoupling control by means of SM(sliding mode) for a trajectory control of a two-degrees-of- freedom manipulator was discussed. The position and velocity of manipulator tip were adopted to compose a nonlinear error functions. The reference inputs of the controller can be decided by switching function combined with the desired position and velocity. Simulation result is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Recently, the more advanced control technologies are required to deal with the fast and accurate motion in manipulators. For these requirements, many manipulator control methods have been developed such as a computed torque method. This paper proposes a design method, a two-degrees-of-freedom internal model control (TDOF IMC), of the manipulator position control based on combination of the one-degree-of-freedom internal model control (ODOF IMC) system and the disturbance observer. The proposed control scheme is implemented for the position control, which leads the slave manipulator to the desired location by the master arm. The experimental results are presented and discussed through the imp...

  • In order to find the optimal control law for the precise trajectory tracking of a robot manipulator, a perturbational control method is proposed based on a linearized manipulator dynamic model which can be obtained in a very compact and computationally efficient manner using the dual number algebra. Manipulator control can be decomposed into two parts: the nominal control and the corrective perturbational control. The nominal control is precomputed from the inverse dynamic model using the quantities of a desired trajectory. The perturbational control is obtained by applying the second-variational method on the linearized dynamic model. Simulation results for a PUMA-560 robot show that, by using this controller, the desired trajectory tracking performance of the robot can be achieved, even in the presence of large initial positional disturbances.

  • The aim of this paper is to clarify the structural compliance of the constrained flexible manipulator and to develop the force control algorithm by using the compliance of the links. The proposed structural compliance control consists of the position control to utilize a flexible manipulator model (considering the compensation for the elastic deflection of links) and the passive force control to utilize the rigid manipulator model (without considering the compensation for the elastic deflection of links). We present the experimental results for the case when applying the only position control, and when applying the structural compliance control. Finally, a comparison between these results is presented to show the performance of our method.

  • In this study, position tracking and force reflection control of a master-slave manipulator which will be used for handling objects contaminated by radioactivity has been addressed. Since available measurements concerning on dynamic motion of the master-slave manipulator are restricted, a simple constrained control structure was suggested. In the consideration of the uncertain dynamic behaviors of the slave manipulator which is dependent upon mass and shape of work pieces grasped and dynamic properties of the environment contacted, a simple structured sliding mode control was suggested to guarantee robustness with respect to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed control was applied to a 1-DOF master-slave link system. The control performances were verified along with some computer simulation results.

  • The transposed Jacobian is proposed to transform the control space from task space to joint space, in this paper. Instead of inverse Jacobian, the transposed Jacobian is preferred to avoid singularity problem, short real time calculations and its generality to apply for rectangular Jacobian. On-line Jacobian identification is proposed to cancel parametric errors produced by D-H parameters of manipulator. To identify Jacobian, the joint angles and the end-effector position are measured when tracking a desired trajectory in task space. Stability of control system is analyzed. The control system is simulated for position control of a two-link manipulator driven by permanent magnet dc motors. Simulation results are shown to compare the roles of inverse Jacobian and transposed Jacobian for transforming the control space.

  • This paper studies the decentralized position/force control problem for constrained reconfigurable manipulator without torque sensing. A novel joint torque estimation scheme that exploits the existing structural elasticity of the manipulator joint with harmonic drive model is applied for each joint module. Based on the estimated joint torque and dynamic output feedback technique, a decentralized position/force control strategy is presented. In order to solve the problem of controller parameter perturbation, the non-fragile robust technique is introduced into the dynamic output feedback controller. Subsequently, the stability of the closed-loop system is proved using the Lyapunov theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Finally, two 2-DOF constrained reconfigurable manipulators with different configurations are applied to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme in numerical simulation.

  • A fuzzy controller of a manipulator with artificial rubber muscles is proposed. The fuzzy logic controller as a compensator is described to control the trajectory tracking of a -two link manipulator, where computed torque control method has already assumed to be applied. We shows that the fuzzy compensator with a simple adaptive scaling technique is effective for the robust control when there exist model uncertainties and/or untuned feedback gains. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is illustrated by some experimental results for a circular path tracking.

  • A robust deterministic control for a class of singularly perturbed uncertain systems, where uncertainties are characterized deterministically rather than stochastically, is developed based mainly on information available on an uncertain reduced-order system. The deterministic control scheme is applied to the motion control of a n degree of freedom robotic manipulator. The parasitic actuator and sensor dynamics of the manipulator are explicitly considered in the stability analysis of the deterministic controller using a singular perturbation model. Simulation and experimental studies for a two degree of freedom, direct drive SCARA manipulator are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the derived control scheme.

  • Trajectory tracking control problems are described for a two-link robot manipulator with artificial rubber muscle actuators. Under the assumption that the so-called independent joint control is applied to the control system, the dynamic model for each link is identified as a linear second-order system with time-lag by the step response. Two control laws such as the feedforward and the computed torque control methods, are experimentally applied for controlling the circular trajectory of an actual robot manipulator.
