The Study on Solid Waste Management in School Foodservices in the Kyungbuk Area (경북지역 학교급식에서의 쓰레기 관리에 관한 연구)

  • The main purposes of this study were to survey and assess the current situation surrounding solid waste generation in school foodservices, to identify and evaluate the measures(reduction and recycling programs) taken by the foodservices for waste disposal, and to suggest appropriate reform measures to improve the current status, especially in terms of environmental preservation. Questionnaires on solid waste management practices were mailed to 206 school foodservice dietitians in the Kyungbuk region : a 64.0%(N = 130) response rate was obtained. While there are food waste and packaging waste generated from the foodservice operations, about a third(34.1%) of the foodservice operations were responsible for the disposal of both the food wastes and packaging wastes. About 90% of school foodservice managers were responsible for managing solid wastes. The primary recycling methods of leftovers generated from the school food service operations were livestock feed(76.0%). About 60.0% of school foodservice managers conducted the food waste reduction program. The performance by the foodservice managers in reducing the food waste was not satisfactory in several fields, such as developing environmentally friendly menus or abiding by the standard recipe, etc. In addition, the government assistance system was not properly working in the food service management. In conclusion, we should focus on increasing the performance in reducing the food waste by the foodservice managers, strengthening and facilitating the government assistance system for the food waste management and to develop education methods and education materials for food waste management.

Feasibility Study for Dietitians' Roles as a Sanitation Consultant based on Managers' Self-evaluation on Sanitation Management at Restaurants in Cheonan (외식업소 경영자의 위생관리 평가분석을 통한 영양사의 지역내 일반음식점 위생교육 지도 필요성 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine sanitation management practices of restaurant managers for the training needs analysis. A total of 26 restaurant managers participated in this study. A check list was consisted of three parts : facility, personal, and food hygiene. Two observers and one manager evaluated the same check list at same time and the results were compared. The results of this study suggested that most restaurants have needed for re-training programs in the view of facility, personal, food sanitation practices. Specially, proper washing and sanitizing methods for hands and utensils, proper cooking and holding temperature, and proper storing methods were needed to be trained. Based on this study, most independent restaurant managers in Cheonan were aware of training, but they had no effective training program manuals. Results of this study implicated that dietitians have new opportunity for consultants of independent restaurants in the region because they have practiced sanitation management manuals.

Factors Associated with Middle Managers' Work Motivation: Evidence from SMEs in Vietnam

  • This study presents an exploratory investigation of SMEs in Vietnam to understand the impact of personal-level factors on middle managers' work motivation and the moderating role of work environment. A survey of 450 middle managers (MMs) in 150 Hanoi's SMEs was conducted. The findings of this research showed a significant positive impact of Achievement (ACHV), Recognition (RECOG), and Responsibility (RESP) on work motivation of MMs under the investigation. Furthermore, the result indicated that the work environment affects the relationship between personal-level factors and work motivation of participants. Consequently, both work environment improvement and strategies related to personal-level factors need to be taken into consideration. Especially, Recognition and transparency in Responsibility are appreciated in organizations with a low level of work environment satisfaction. However, there were no indications that Participation (PAR) and Communication (CMM) have a considerable impact on work motivation of respondents, being neither low level nor high level of work environment satisfaction. Based on the findings, recommendations are suggested for Vietnam's SMEs to improve work motivation of MMs, by (i) developing standards with emphasis on their achievement, (ii) paying attention to organizational culture focusing on the responsibility of this managerial level, and (iii) building an adequate incentive system, especially non-financial incentives.

Success Factors Affecting Internationalization Process of Large Vietnamese Companies: A Conceptual Framework

  • Internationalization of multinational companies in the globalized context is a popular topic in the academic world and it is also a strong concern of CEO/managers. However, this topic has not been well discussed in the academic community in Vietnam that can be contextualized in the typical transition economy. This paper is designed to explore critical success factors (CSF) of internationalization of large Vietnamese companies that have contributed major revenue from the international market. Through interviews with CEO/managers of successful companies geared toward world markets, the CSFs of internationalization have been identified and categorized into groups in which each CSF has interaction with each other, and together have combined impacts on the success of internationalization. The research results provide a conceptual framework to analyze factors affecting internationalization of large Vietnamese companies. Thank to this conceptual framework, further exploratory and/or confirmatory research can be developed to locate more success factors of internationalization. In addition, some particularly critical factors of internationalization success of Vietnamese companies are found to be useful to both CEO/managers and policymakers. CEO/managers can benefit from the research results by concentrate their limited efforts/resources in managing these CSFs, and policymaker may design CSF-based policies to boost the internationalization of domestic companies.

  • This research analyzed the operational status of fire protection system managers who execute self inspection of the fire equipment in the specific fire protection facilities and presented the improvement scheme. Being made up inquiry for job environment, institutional environment, and operational environment for the subject of fire protection system managers who execute self inspection to complement the fire equipment inspection by city public fire protection service, the issues of the operational status of the institution of fire protection system managers were positively understood. The research result showed the conflict among building owner, fire equipment inspector, and fire protection system manager was existed due to the legal and institutional inertia to the self inspection, so it is judged that mutual complementary and cooperative relation should be established.

Case Management Process identified from Experience of Nurse Case Managers (의료급여 관리사의 실무 경험을 통해서 본 사례관리 과정)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a substantive theory of case management (CM) practice by investigating the experience of nurse case managers caring for Medical Aid enrollees in Korea. Methods: A total of 12 nurses were interviewed regarding their own experience in CM practice. Data were recorded and analyzed using grounded theory. Results: Empowerment was the core category of CM for Medical Aid enrollees. The case managers engaged in five phases as follows, phase of inquiring in advance, building a relationship with the client, giving the client critical mind, facilitating positive changes in the client's use of healthcare services, and maintaining relationship bonds. These phases moved gradually and were circular if necessary. Also, they were accelerated or slowed depending on factors including clients' characteristics, case managers' competency level, families' support level, and availability of community resources. Conclusion: This study helps understand what CM practice is and how nurses are performing this innovative CM role. It is recommended that nurse leaders and policy makers integrate empowerment as a core category and the five critical CM phases into future CM programs.

An Analysis of the Relationship between the Port-Logistics Function and Port-Quality for the Competitiveness of Port (항만 경쟁력제고를 위한 항만물류기능과 항만품질수준간의 관련성 분석)

  • Since the mid 1980s, the concept of logistics has become more important to the enterprises in strategic sense because it had aggrandized itself to more comprehensive and integrative concept. Therefore study on the service organization of the logistics system for customer’s satisfaction from the management’s point has been focused as one of the major subject in order to improve the logistics quality which would ultimately increase the value of logistics service. This study has been focused on what the port logistics functions and the factors of the port logistics quality are those Korean port managers acknowledge as important factor. And examins these port logistics quality levels and the port logistics value (port productivity, service results) obtained by the results of these activities while reviewing the relation of the custom value which the port managers evaluate in order to evaluate and promote the competitiveness of the Korean port. According to the study results the port logistics function which the Pusan Container Terminal managers recognized as important were customer service management the flexibility of the port facilities and curtailment of the original operation cost of the port. It also indicated that the managers recognized the importance of the customer-oriented terminal management as it showed a close relationship with the port quality level.

  • Information Systems have played a strategic role in achieving business goal and become an essential tool in today's business environment. Thus, the number of developing SI project has increased and it becomes complex and sophisticated. It is known that project manager's leadership could lead the project success. In this study, project manager's competencies are divided into two types, information competency(information-oriented mind, information utilization competency, information development competency) and managerial competency(project management, human relationship, project expertise. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of information competency and managerial competency on the SI project success and to find out the moderating effect of project size. The result of this study reveals that information utilization competency, project management competency and human relationship have a strong relationship with both customers and suppliers side of projet success. Moreover, the relationship between managers' competencies and project success is shown to be different by project size. The result of this study implies that each managers' competencies has to be developed and applied according to project's complexity and size.

Influence of Decentralization, Participation in Decision Making, Job Satisfaction on Nurse Managers' Organizational Commitment (조직분권화, 의사결정참여, 직무만족이 간호 관리자의 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of decentralization, participation in decision making, job satisfaction on organizational commitment among hospital nurse managers. Method: The data were derived from the self-reported questionnaire responses of 198 nurse managers from January to March, 2006 at four general hospitals over 900 beds in Seoul and Gyungi province and analyzed by frequency and percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Sheffe's test and stepwise multiple regression. Result: Mean of decentralization was 3.53${\pm}$0.52, participation in decision making was 5.04${\pm}$0.83, job satisfaction 3.54${\pm}$0.48, and organizational commitment was 5.30${\pm}$0.76. There were significant differences between participation in decision-making and career of manager, field of practice, span of control, especially in staffing decision. A significant correlation was found between organizational commitment and decentralization (r=.22, p<.001), participation in decision making (r=.40, p<.001), job satisfaction (r=.64, p<.001). The job satisfaction has the highest significant predictor of organizational commitment ($R^2$=43%). Conclusions: Nursing managers' job satisfaction and organizational commitment will be promoted by granting participation in decision-making.

Job Analysis of Medical Care Client Managers based on DACUM (데이컴 (DACUM)기법을 이용한 의료급여관리사의 직무분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to establish the standards for duty of Medical Care Client Managers and analyze the extent of accomplishment, importance, and difficulty according to the standards. Methods: The draft for duty of Medical Care Client Managers was formed by the method of developing a curriculum (DACUM) and data were collected from 185 Medical Aid Client Managers in 234 areas to evaluate the actual frequency of accomplishment, importance and difficulty in comparison with the standards for duties. Results: The standard duty draft for Medical Care Client Manager is composed of five separate groups of duties and thirty five tasks. The five duties are Case Management, Extension Approval, External Cause of Injury, Duplicate Claims and Other Administrations. Seven Tasks are allocated to each duty such as Case Management, Extension Approval and External Cause of Injury. Five tasks are allocated to 'Duplicate Claims' duty and nine tasks are allocated to 'Other Administrations' duty. Conclusion: From the results of analysis for duties, it was apprehensive about overburdened responsibilities and carelessness in professional duties. It was necessary to establish specific guidelines for duties because of redundent application or regional variation in frequency of accomplishing other administrative duties. It was necessary to relieve a regional disparity of business charge and also was necessary to propose an alternative plan to relieve the overburdened responsibilities.
