Purpose: The Purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between managerial characteristics of the nursing organization and organizational effectiveness. Method : The data were gathered from the self-reported questionnaires of 717 nurses who work for eight different general hospitals located around Seoul and Kyounggi province. The period of data collection was from December 12 to December 7, 2002. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, t-test, and ANOVA with SAS & SPSS Program were used. Result : 1) Managerial Characteristics of the Nursing Organization were positively related to all of the organizational effectiveness. Transactional leadership were negatively related to all of the organizational effectiveness. 2) 'Shared Value' and 'Communication' showed a significant difference except religion. 'Autonomy' showed a significant difference except religion, major field of practice. 'Job Motivation' showed a significant difference except marital status, religion. 'Transformational leadership' showed a significant difference except marital status, religion, major field of practice. 3) 'Job satisfaction' showed a significant difference except religion, major field of practice. 'Organizational commitment' and 'Organizational citizenship behavior' showed a significant difference except religion. Conclusion : From the above results, the highly perceived with managerial characteristics of the nursing organization is very implicative to enhance the organizational effectiveness.

Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate educational need of nursing managerial competency in the hospitals. Method: The data were collected from 296 nurses(nurse manager and nurse) who had worked in 9 hospitals using the structured questionnaires. Data was analysed by the SPSS for Windows 12.0 program. Results: Educational needs of the nurse managerial competency development were very high. Most of items in the areas of 'human resource management', 'leadership', 'ethic/ law responsibility' and 'quality improvement' were needed for nurse managerial competency development. Current level of the nurse managerial competency level in practice was lower than education need. However nurses had moderate level ability in the areas of 'ethic/ law responsibility', 'human resource management' and 'nursing information management'. There were significant differences in current level and need of the nurse managerial competency(p=.000). Education needs of the nurse managerial competency were influenced by age, clinical career, position, education level, experience of nurse manager education(p<.05). 5) Education program operations were preferred to 'the theme course', 'lecture', 'external education institution'. Conclusion: Education program of the nursing managerial competency development is urgently needed for nurses who have worked in a hospital.
Firms are increasingly adopting online communities-of-practice (CoPs) with strong managerial support in hopes of promoting knowledge sharing and creation within the organization. Excessive managerial concern and sponsoring, however, could harm the spontaneity of CoP participants, which is one of the pivotal characteristics of virtual communities, and in the end, have negative impact on their smooth operation. In this regard, this study examines the factors which affect the stimulation of CoPs and explores the difference in their operating mechanisms under two differing organizational structural settings by the existence of a sponsor. By analyzing 133 samples of CoPs in a globally leading company, this study found that the existence of a sponsor designated by the organization, has serious influence on the working of CoPs, That is, leaders' enthusiasm and the level of off-line activities are critical factors for the stimulation of CoPs which have no sponsor, while in case of CoPs that have their sponsors, neither leaders' enthusiasm nor the level of off-line activities are significantly related to the stimulation of CoPs. At the same time, the performance of CoPs which have their sponsors was found significantly higher than that of CoPs which have no sponsor. These results indicate that firms need to pay special attention to organizational sponsorship when introducing CoPs within their organizations.

This study focus on the structural relationships among business strategies, its various execution types and business performances from the viewpoint of many managerial aspects. These many kinds of management activities are carried out in order to revitalize the E-Business system. The objective of this study is to find out the structural effect of this various kinds of managerial strategies on the practice type of knowledge management such as dynamic and behavioral approach. And also the effect of knowledge management activities on the business performance. The result of this study shows that management strategy for marketing, procurement/logistics and service has positive influences on systematic, behavioral approach as well as the knowledge execution types has positive influence on the management performances.
Purpose: This study was to describe nurses' research activities, perceptions and performances of evidence-based practice and barriers to the use of research evidence in nursing practice in Korea. Method: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A questionnaire, except for Barriers Scale, was developed for the study. Data was collected from a convenient sample of 437 registered nurses working at research and education oriented university hospitals. Result: Nurses' research-related activities were relatively low compared to previous studies. Also perceptions and performances of evidence based nursing practice were low. Preferred informational resources for clinical decision making were identified as ward manuals/clinical guidelines, manager/senior nurses, and literature/research. The major barriers to research utilization were a lack of implication for practice along with inadequate facilitation to implement research evidence and difficulty understanding research written in English. Priorities of barriers factor were Administrator, Communication, Adopter, and Research. Conclusion: The findings provide directions for future training, education, and managerial policy to achieve successful evidence based nursing practice.
Applicability of control theories to the efficient operation of accounting system is studied in this paper. Since managerial accounting has been developed along the progrees of control theory, management control theories are essential to explain important attributes of diverse accounting system. Basic concept of control is studied in depth and control systems are classified on the base of their special characteristics. And then the applicability of those control methods to accounting systems are discussed based on behavioral as well as management science approach. In the management science approach, accounting control models of production management, inventory management and R&D are designed with its unique quantitative characteristics. It, however, is very difficult to implement quantified control standards on the behavioral management side. Since most of variables considered on behavioral approach are non-quantitative, only discussion of the theoratical definition has been a main issue on previous studies. In this paper, practicability of the behavioral approach to the accounting control system is studied analyzing state variables and behavior variables of the control system. Theoratical base of the discussion are provided from control theories developed in organization theory and Economics. Basic objective of accounting control practice is to control qualitative human behavior represented by quantified figures while quantitative methods are prevailing over general accounting practice. Therefore, this paper tried to develope and integrate accounting control systems applicable to the behavioral management area as well as management science control side.
This study surveys 212 accounting information systems (AIS) of 85 manufacturing firms by using the research model based on the management process of AIS to figure out the current status and problems of the computing environment and AIS of Korean firms. The analysis of the current status leads to the suggestions to promote the utilization and efficiency of AIS. The level of experiences and education of information system (IS) personnel turns out to be still low. More education is needed to upgrade the IS personnel. AIS users lack in the computer knowledge. The users need more computer education. The analysis on the computerization and information characteristics of the AIS subsystems shows that the computerization is well established in the financial accounting area. On the other hand, the computerization for managerial accounting areas is in its early stage. The managerial accounting systems need be developed to support the managerial decision making effectively. The majority of firms develop the AIS by their own IS teams. When firms use the consulting services in developing AIS, they prefer accounting firms. The majority of firms fail to evaluate the AIS because the evaluation tools are not available. Most firms do not perform the auditing for AIS. It is needed to develop the tool and techniques for evalauation and auditing AIS.

This research is designed to analyze the moderating effect of social capital between organizational slack and managerial practices for open innovation. After controlling the firm size, firm age, and environmental uncertainty, we test two hypotheses. First, we test the hypothesis that organizational slack has a positive effect on managerial practices for open innovation. Especially we focus on the managerial innovation and open innovation because recently managerial innovation and open innovation are more and more important. Second, we test the moderating role of social capital between organizational slack and managerial practices for open innovation. Because social capital is a kind of networking activity, we assume that social capital can contribute to managerial practices for open innovation through the networking activity. For this research, we administered the questionnaire surveys, and got the 250 effective data (companies) in Korea. Then we used the validity, reliability, correlation and multiple regression analysis by means of SPSS 18.0. As a result, we can find the two meaningful results. First, organizational slack, especially not absorbed slack but unabsorbed slack, has positive effect on managerial practices for open innovation. It is because absorbed slack such as excessive facilities, machines, or employees is not useful in managerial practices for open innovation. On the other hand, unabsorbed slack is useful in managerial practices for open innovation because unabsorbed slack such as excessive money or securities is very flexible and active. Taken together, the relationship between managerial practices for open innovation and unabsorbed slack is proven in terms of flexibility. Second, social capital has a moderating effect positively between organizational slack, especially not absorbed slack but unabsorbed slack, and managerial practices for open innovation. A prior study related to the relationship between managerial practices for open innovation and social capital doesn't exist yet, so this analysis result is very meaningful in academic respect. But this research has some limitations. First, this research is analyzed by limited region (Korea) and samples (250 companies), so more global regions and samples are recommended in the future. Second, we focus on managerial practices for open innovation in this paper, so the studies about technological practices for open innovation are recommended in the future.
Soils in the sloping uplands in Korea are subject to intensive land use with high input of agrochemicals and are vulnerable to soil erosion. Development of the environmentally sound land management strategy is essential for a sustainable production system in the sloping upland. This report addresses the status of upland agriculture and the best management practices for the uplands toward the sustainable agriculture. More than 60% of Korean lands are forest and only 21% are cultivating paddy and upland. Uplands are about 7% of the total lands and about 62% of the uplands are in the slopes higher than 7%. Due to the site-specificity of the upland, many managerial and environmental problems are occurring, such as severe erosion, shallow surface soils with rocky fragments, and loadings of non-point source (NPS) contaminants into the watershed. Based on the field trials, most of the sloping uplands were classified as Suitability Class III-V and the major limiting factor was slope and rock fragments. Due to this, soils were over-applied with N fertilizer, even though N rate was the recommendation. This resulted in decreases in yield, degradation of soil quality and increases in N loading to the leachate. Various case studies drew management practices toward sustainable production systems. The suggested BMP on the managerial, vegetative, and structural options were to practice buffer strips along the edges of fields and streams, winter cover crop, contour and mulching farming, detention weir, diversion drains, grassed waterway, and slope arrangement. With these options, conservation effects such as reductions in raindrop impact, flow velocity, runoff and sediment loss, and rill and gully erosion were observed. The proper management practice is a key element of the conservation of the soil and water in the sloping upland.
This paper explores the relationship between senior workforce's education & training and job satisfaction. Further, the mediating effect of knowledge-sharing practice is also analyzed. We used 970 senior workforce's survey data from Human Capital Corporate Panel. Using structural equation modeling, the results suggest as follows. First, senior workforce's education & training had a positive effect on job satisfaction. Second, senior workforce's knowledge-sharing practice had a positive effect on job satisfaction. Third, a mediation analysis reveals that knowledge-sharing practice significantly mediates the relationship between education & training and job satisfaction. Several theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.
