Economic Valuation of R&D Programs with Strategic Flexibility (전략적 유연성을 고려한 연구개발사업의 경제성 평가: 이론 및 사례 분석)

  • Under circumstances with increasing uncertainty, strategic flexibility has become an essential point on which my R&D management system should be based. Unfortunately the present R&D management system for government sponsored R&D programs cannot be said to be so flexible to adapt appropriately to various threatens such as technological failure, a severe change in competition environment, and so on. In this paper a new scheme for R&D planning and economic assessment with strategic flexibility is suggested and applied to a real R&D program. In the newly suggested R&D management system, economic valuation based on real option theory is performed for various alternative scenarios which have different strategic scheme for R&D process each and the result of the assessment is fed back to R&D planning to choose more superior strategic scheme. Introducing strategic flexibility into R&D planning and economic assessment, the value of R&D project could be remarkably enhanced.

Relationship-Making Factors in Franchised Korean Restaurants (한식프랜차이즈 업체와 고객간의 관계형성 결정요인에 관한 연구)

  • Existing literature on the CRM [Customer Relationship Management] has emphasized the marketing strategies between the franchisor and franchisee. In this study, we focused instead on factors involved in forging relationships based on marketing strategies between franchisee and the customers. A survey questionnaire was completed by 250 customers of Korean-style food franchises located in Seoul and Inchon. Each questions is based on a 5-point likert-type scale. After initial data recording, 41 questionnaires were deleted from the data set because of missing or insincerely answer. Finally, the sample data of 209 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. The data were analyzed with SPSS version 13.0 software to assess consumer satisfaction, trust, and support/reputation on flexibility and commitment. Regression analysis was performed to analyze the relationship between flexibility and commitment. Satisfaction and support/reputation significantly influenced flexibility, both satisfaction and trust significantly influenced commitment, and both flexibility and commitment significantly influenced the restaurant-consumer relationship.

Effects of Yoga Exercise on Physical Flexibility and Perception of Posture Management in Adolescents (요가운동이 청소년의 신체 유연성과 자세관리 인지에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the effects of Yoga exercise on improvements in physical flexibility, posture management behavior, and self-efficacy in adolescents. Method: In this study, the design was a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pretest-posttest design. Participants were 32 students from one high school in Busan Metropolitan City, Korea, who did not engage in regular aerobic exercise and were willing to participate in this study. Yoga exercise was conducted for 70 minutes twice a week for 15 weeks. The data were collected from March 16 to June 22, 2004. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and paired t-test with SPSS Win 12.0. Results: Trunk flexibility, posture management behavior, and self-efficacy significantly increased after the yoga exercise. Conclusion: Yoga exercise is recommended as a useful nursing intervention that could help prevent spinal-curvature-related disorders among adolescents.

Halal Orientation Strategy(HOS) Reinforces to Positive Results on Quality, Time, Cost Control and Flexibility among Halal Food Manufacturers in Malaysia Context

  • The purpose of this paper was to explain on the conceptualisation of the Halal Orientation strategy (HOS) based on operation strategy perspective. The four variables constitute in HOS are staffing, materials, production process and storage together with transportation. By focusing on HOS, the manufacturers reinforce improvement in quality, cost control, time and flexibility of the production Halal food industry in Malaysia which is the performance objective of market competitiveness in Malaysia context. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and used to assess the significant of HOS that lead to improve quality, cost control, reduction in time and the flexibility among Halal food manufacturers in Malaysia. From a total of 443 Halal food manufacturers were involved in this study, only 137 respondents are usable for this research. The study showed significant results for the manufacturers to focus in Halal Orientation strategy (HOS) which have positive impacts on quality, cost control, time and flexibility. This research aimed to measure the HOS among food firms in Malaysia and to determine HOS in relation with the performance objective of operational outcomes.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of creativity management factors on perceived R&D performance. To do this, the data (885cases) were collected from 19 Korean Government-supported Research Institutes, and 3 hypotheses derived from the model of creativity management(after here CM) were tested. Major findings are as follows: 1) CM constructs are grouped into diversity, autonomy, connectivity, redundancy and flexibility factors; 2) The major factors that can explain R&D performance perceived by scientists and engineers are connectivity, autonomy, diversity and flexibility; 3) All CM factors have significant relationship with satisfaction of the employees; 4) Flexibility and connectivity factors give effects on turnover intention of the members. This study has some limitations in model building and empirical testing. This study, however, provides theoretical and managerial implications about CM and R&D management, particularly Government-supported Research Institutes in Korea.

  • Manufacturing flexibility has strategic position in improving competitive advantage as a mechanism that responses environmental uncertainty. Thus this study aims at recognizing strategic meaning of manufacturing flexibility in enhancing the competitive advantage and measuring manufacturing flexibility and ultimately analyzing the effects of IT use on the manufacturing flexibility. Consequently we proved that IT use have an effect on manufacturing flexibility and manufacturing flexibility has an effect on competitive advantage in this study The results of this study are as follows. First, information acquisition and decision support by IT use has a significant effect on enhancing the manufacturing flexibility and manufacturing flexibility has a significant effect on improving the competitive advantage. Theses results are also means that IT use to support AMT usage is more important than AMT itself in the achieving manufacturing flexibility.

  • E-business might be characterized by open system through internet, fortification of relationship between the suppliers and customers in chain system of company, the collaboration among partners and the use of IT. For these characteristics, e-business companies are becoming to suffer such burdens as wide spread of global economy, industry deregulation, and the increasing number of new entrants. In this situation, e-business companies should maintain the flexible system to adapt fast changing environment. Information system planning has been the important research area for many years because of its strategic importance. Among various variables, organization and IS context have been researched for making successful ouput of ISP. In this paper, I studied the importance of flexibility in e-business environments. And further I examined the flexibility of IS, organization and ISP methodologies. The forthcoming paper, I expect to investigate the relationship between IS flexibility, organizational flexibility, ISP flexible methodologies and successful ISP.

  • In this paper, we identify the factors of supplier service quality, and explore the relationships between these factors and customer satisfaction, and between these factors and customer loyalty. Through empirical analysis, the five factors, such as technical ability, information service, service flexibility, delivery reliability, and after service, are identified. The analysis also shows that information service and service flexibility influence customer satisfaction, and service flexibility and after service influence customer loyalty.

A Study on Children's Gender-Role Flexibility (아동의 성역할 개념의 유연성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the developmental trends in children's gender-role flexibility across different areas of gender-role concept(appearance, activities, occupations, personality trails). Participants included 74 children(1st, 3rd, 5th graders). They were interviewed on a series of 16 pictures depicting cross-gender characteristics. Analyses revealed that (a) flexibility reached its peak at around age 8, which then remained the same except in appearance, (b) girls showed higher flexibility than boys except in occupations, (c) children showed the lowest flexibility in appearance and the highest in occupations, (d) children showed the lowest flexibility toward a male target child with cross-gender characteristic, and (e) children's justifications for flexibility were varied according to the situations. The results suggest that children's gender-role flexibility is influenced by age, sex, areas of gender-role concept, and target persons.

An Empirical Study on the Effect of Trust between Firms in the Supply Chain on Agility and Logistics Performance

  • Purpose: This study explores the effect on supply chain agility and logistics performance of building mutual trust between manufacturing companies that have adopted supply chain management. Previous studies have categorized trust into affective and cognitive types, and speed, flexibility, and responsiveness are recognized as subfactors of supply chain agility. Methodology: A survey gathered responses from employees of domestic manufacturing firms with supply chain management implementations. 254 valid responses underwent statistical analysis using structural equation modeling (SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0). Results: Affective trust positively influences speed and responsiveness but not flexibility. Cognitive trust positively affects speed, flexibility, and responsiveness. Supply chain agility positively impacts logistics performance. However, neither affective nor cognitive trust significantly influences logistics performance. Conclusions: The study suggests that cognitive trust based on capabilities is more important than affective trust for flexibility in corporate relationships, a subfactor of supply chain agility. However, trust alone cannot enhance corporate performance. This research is significant as it examines the roles of trust and agility in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated the manufacturing business environment.
