  • When a mobile robot moves around autonomously without man-made corrupted bye landmarks, it is essential to recognize the placement of surrounding objects especially for self localization, obstacle avoidance, and target classification and localization. To recognize the environment we use many Kinds of sensors, such as ultrasonic sensors, laser range finder, CCD camera, and so on. Among the sensors, ultra sonic sensors(sonar)are unexpensive and easy to use. In this paper, we analyze the sonar data and propose a method to recognize features of indoor environment. It is supposed that the environments are consisted of features of planes, edges, and corners, For the analysis, sonar data of plane, edge, and corner are accumulated for several given ranges. The data are filtered to eliminate some noise using the Kalman filter algorithm. Then, the data for each feature are compared each other to extract the character is ties of each feature. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method using the sonar data obtained form a sonar transducer rotating and scanning the range information around a indoor environment.

  • This paper aims to develop a low gate source voltage ($V_{gs}$) N-LDMOS element that is fully operational at a CMOS Logic Gate voltage (3.3 or 5 V) realized using the 0.35 μm BCDMOS process. The basic structure of the N-LDMOS element presented here has a Low $V_{gs}$ LDMOS structure to which the thickness of a logic gate oxide is applied. Additional modification has been carried out in order to obtain features of an improved breakdown voltage and a specific on resistance ($R_{sp}$). A N-LDMOS element can be developed with improved features of breakdown voltage and specific on resistance, which is an important criterion for power elements by means of using a proper structure and appropriate process modification. In this paper, the structure has been made to withstand the excessive electrical field on the drain side by applying the double gate oxide structure to the channel area, to improve the specific on resistance in addition to providing a sufficient breakdown voltage margin. It is shown that the resulting modified N-LDMOS structure with the feature of the specific on resistance is improved by 31%, and so it is expected that optimized power efficiencies and the size-effectiveness can be obtained.

  • Clothing was excavated when the Bae's clan of Seong-san, Yeong-dong, Chung-buk in Sep. 2, 2004. The tombs that the clothing could be restored were the tombs of Bae Cheon-jo(10th generation) and the tomb of Mrs. Nam of Go-seong, the wife of Bae Sang-gyeong(1lth generation). For identifying the features and methods of sewing used for the clothing of man and woman around Po(coat in Korea in the past) in the 16th to 17th century, this study investigated 12 items from Bae Cheon-jo's tomb(Sibok, Dopo(robe), Jungchimak(outer coat with large sleeves) and Gwa-du and 5 items(Jangok(lady's cloak) and Jungchimak) from Mrs. Nam's tomb of Go-seong. For sewing, broad-stitching, hemming and even-back-stitching were used the most in that order. Furthermore, various kinds of sophisticated stitching including old flat felled seam, decorative saddle stitching and buttonhole stitch, clothing made roughly as a shroud and fabric attached on the clothing were also observed. We may not have many opportunities to understand the change of clothing in Korea from mid 16th century to mid 17th century through the clothing of father-in-law and daughter-in-law in a family. As a result, we will be able to understand the features of sewing in a family and from the 16th century to the 17th century.

  • Each and everything named fashion together with clothes were limited in the boundary of women and men's wear has been slow and narrow in changing speed compared to women's, even there are some differences in accordance time. But maintaining the basic features, men's wear in the latter 20th century has undergone diverse change in the part of materials such as various synthetic fiber, glass, metal, artificial leather and the see-through fabric able to seeing the body wearing the clothes. Therefore, the aim and definition of this study is to present the systematic framework giving help to develop men's wear design newer and more various by considering moulding of materials which existing men's wear could not show up and by grasping material trend of men's clothes in 1990s. The results of the study were summarized as follows : (1) Material containing lustering is categorized as Velvet, Silk, Lustering materials by synthetic fiber and Lustering materials by additional substance. The Velvet generally acknowledged having something to feel womanly image shows the bisexual character coexisting feature of men and women after grafting with men'fashion. The Silk was endowed the role as means of pleasure to express beyond boundary of sex breaking the existing consciousness which men should wear male clothes, not considering differences between men and women. The lustering made by synthetic fiber expressed modern sensitivity aesthetically to the suit. The lustering materials made by additional substance is seen mixed masculine character with womanly character. (2) See-through materials are acknowledged as decadence beauty caused by expanding subjective awareness in beauty. (3) Materials by the sorts of Net is categorized as Lace, Knit The Lace expression seemed to emphases the human liberation of men and women and the humanity from liberation of subjecthood. The Knit can be felt both woman's image and man's image as bisexual image, not raising only one side sex. (4) Elastic materials offered the opportunity to approve exposure in a time when exposure of men's body was not granted ethically. (5) Leather was shown as indication of social status and inferiority and expression of collective resistance against sexual stagnation of men and women.

  • This paper deals with experiments for dynamic characteristics and performance evaluation of the 3-axis fine positioning stage developed in [1]. The features of the developed fine positioning stage are the long stroke due to the magnetically preloaded PZT actuators, the minimum motion crosstalk due to the use of a ball contact mechanism and the compact design. The dynamic characteristics of the actuator and the stage are tested with the preload changed in order to validate the actuator and the stage design. Performance evaluation is also made for the PZT actuators as well as the stage positioning accuracy. Experimental results show that the developed stage is accurate enough to be used for nanometer positioning.

  • Strong backscattering features from high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Rader (SAR) image provide useful information to analyze earth surface characteristics such as man-made objects in urban areas. The SAR image has, however, some limitations on description of detail information in urban areas compared to optical images. In this paper, we propose a new classification method using a fused SAR and Electro-Optical (EO) image, which provides more informative classification result than that of a single-sensor SAR image classification. The experimental results showed that the proposed method achieved successful results in combination of the SAR image classification and EO image characteristics.

  • This paper proposes a new building segmentation method from 1m resolution imagery using an Active Contour Model, known as "Balloons". The original balloons, which was designed by Cohen(Cohen, 1991) to extract features from medical images, are modified for building segmentation. The proposed method consists of two phases. Firstly, building boundaries are extracted by balloons with a given position on buildings from an operator. Since balloons actively adjust their shapes according to the boundaries, there is no more shape limitations on detecting buildings. Secondly, buildings are segmented by connecting the corners detected from the building boundaries, because most buildings, which are man-made objects, are effectively described by polygons. The test results show that most buildings are segmented efficiently and easily. The proposed method is new and timely as 1m resolution spaceborne imagery will be available in the very near future. The proposed method can be used fur operational building segmentation from such imagery.
