  • Industrial Control System (ICS) is a system that carry out monitoring and controls of industrial control process and is applied in infrastructure such as water, power, and gas. Recently, cyber attacks such as Brutal Kangaroo, Emotional Simian, and Stuxnet 3.0 have been continuously increasing in ICS, and these security risks cause damage of human life and massive financial losses. Attacks on the control layer among the attack methods for ICS can malfunction devices of the field device layer by manipulating control commands. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a mechanism that apply the SDN between the control layer and the field device layer in the industrial control system and to determine whether the control command is legitimate or not and we show simulation results on a simply composed control system.

  • TELNET is vulnerable to network attack because it was designed without considering security. SSL/TLS and SSH are used to solve this problem. However it needs additional secure protocol and has no backward compatibility with existing TELNET in this way. In this paper, we have suggested STELNET(Secured Telnet) which supports security functionalities internally so that has a backward compatibility. STELNET supports a backward compatibility with existing TELNET through option negotiation. On STELNET, A client authenticates server by a certificate or digital signature generated by using ECDSA. After server is authenticated, two hosts generate a session key by ECDH algorithm. And then by using the key, they encrypt data with AES and generate HMAC by using SHA-256. After then they transmit encrypted data and generated HMAC. In conclusion, STELNET which has a backward compatibility with existing TELNET defends MITM(Man-In-The-Middle) attack and supports security functionalities ensuring confidentiality and integrity of transmitted data.

  • The use of public Wi-Fi has increased in recent years with many people like to spend their time outside in malls or café shops which provide public Wi-Fi for their customers. However, since the public Wi-Fi can be accessed from any device the security of public Wi-Fi plays a big role to prevent the stealing of information by an attacker with methods and techniques such as WPA, WPA2 and WPA3. However, it is well known to the attackers that these methods are not difficult to get hacked by the attacker device to take the client precious information. Some researches were done in increasing the security of public Wi-Fi each with their own different technique or algorithm to provide more secure connection to the public Wi-Fi and prevent any unauthorized user to connect to avoid stealing the data of another legal user. Theses research paper are evaluated to learn which method excel in protecting the public Wi-Fi security by giving an analysis to the methods provided by the research paper with comparing the pros and cons of each algorithm. Moreover, the research displays that there are methods to actually provide security to the public Wi-Fi with each being very different in implementation.

  • With the development of the Internet, user authentication technology that proves me online is improving. Existing ID methods pose a threat of personal information leakage if the service provider manages personal information and security is weak, and the information subject is to the service provider. In this study, as online identification technology develops, we propose a DID-based self-authentication model to prevent the threat of leakage of personal information from a centralized format and strengthen sovereignty. The proposed model allows users to directly manage personal information and strengthen their sovereignty over information topics through VC issued by the issuing agency. As a research method, a self-authentication model that guarantees security and integrity is presented using a decentralized identifier method based on distributed ledger technology, and the security of the attack method is analyzed. Because it authenticates through DID Auth using public key encryption algorithms, it is safe from sniffing, man in the middle attack, and the proposed model can replace real identity card.

  • With the development of information technology, Small office Home office(SOHO) is picking up. SOHO generally uses Wi-Fi. The wireless LAN environment using 802.11 protocol is easily affected by DoS attacks. To deal with these threats, there is Wireless Intrusion Detection System(WIDS). However, legacy products of WIDS cannot be easily used by SOHO because they are expensive and require management burden. In this paper, Smart WIDS for SOHO is proposed and implemented on Raspberry Pi2. And, it provides the interface for attack detection notice to android smart phone. Smart WIDS detects Masquerading DoS and Resource Depletion DoS based on IEEE 802.11 so that we notice the attempt of cracking Pre-shared Key(PSK), Man-In-The-Middle(MITM), and service failure.

  • In this paper, a VoIP-based voice secure telecommunication technology using the text-independent speaker authentication in the telematics environments is proposed. For the secure telecommunication, the sender's voice packets are encrypted by the public-key generated from the speaker's voice information and submitted to the receiver. It is constructed to resist against the man-in-the middle attack. At the receiver side, voice features extracted from the received voice packets are compared with the reference voice-key received from the sender side for the speaker authentication. To improve the accuracy of text-independent speaker authentication, Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM)-supervectors are applied to Support Vector Machine (SVM) kernel using Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and Mahalanobis distance (MD).

  • We propose an improved Diffie-Hellman(DH) key agreement protocol over a radio link in peer-to-peer networks. The proposed protocol ensures a secure establishment of the shared key between two parties through distance bounding(DB). Proposed protocol is much improved in the sense that we now reduce the number of messages exchanged by two, the number of parameters maintained by four, and 2(7682(k/64)-64) of XOR operations, where k is the length of the random sequence used in the protocol. Also, it ensures a secure reusability of DH public parameters. Start after striking space key 2 times.

  • In this work, a hardware based cryptographic module for the cyber security of nuclear power plant is developed using a system engineering approach. Nuclear power plants are isolated from the Internet, but as shown in the case of Iran, Man-in-the-middle attacks (MITM) could be a threat to the safety of the nuclear facilities. This FPGA-based module does not have an operating system and it provides protection as a firewall and mitigates the cyber threats. The encryption equipment consists of an encryption module, a decryption module, and interfaces for communication between modules and systems. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-128, which is formally approved as top level by U.S. National Security Agency for cryptographic algorithms, is adopted. The development of the cyber security module is implemented in two main phases: reverse engineering and re-engineering. In the reverse engineering phase, the cyber security plan and system requirements are analyzed, and the AES algorithm is decomposed into functional units. In the re-engineering phase, we model the logical architecture using Vitech CORE9 software and simulate it with the Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD), which confirms the performance improvements of the hardware-based cryptographic module as compared to software based cryptography. Following this, the Hardware description language (HDL) code is developed and tested to verify the integrity of the code. Then, the developed code is implemented on the FPGA and connected to the personal computer through Recommended Standard (RS)-232 communication to perform validation of the developed component. For the future work, the developed FPGA based encryption equipment will be verified and validated in its expected operating environment by connecting it to the Advanced power reactor (APR)-1400 simulator.

  • Following the recommendations made by the cultural authorities the wooden cultural properties (WCP) had been treated with fire-retardants for fire protection. However, visual inspections of some of the WCPs treated with fire-retardants showed microbial decay. The work was extended to examine the micromorphological characteristics of the WCPs in a Buddhist temple which had been treated with fire-retardant. Microscopic examination showed the presence of typical soft rot cavities along the length of microfibrils in the secondary wall. Bacterial attack was also observed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. It is interesting that the decay patterns observed in the Buddhist temple were very similar to those observed in the waterlogged woods. Presumably chemicals in the fire-retardants used rendered the wood susceptible to attack by soft-rot and bacterial decay by causing an increase in the moisture content of wood. Further studies are needed to investigate the effect of fire-retardants used currently on the hygroscopicity and the strength of wood materials in the WCPs. Microbial attacks caused degradation of the secondary cell walls and in some cases also of the middle lamella. In addition, the cell walls in the outer parts of wood were also degraded due to weathering, and cell separation occurred from total disintegration of the middle lamella.
