The purpose of this study is to analysis change of industrial health and safety before and after economic crisis(1997~1998). The data were obtained through mail interview with health supervisor(occupational health nurses) during February, 1999. The final sample was consisted of 127 respondents, 97 are selected in this study. The major findings were as follows: First, the percent of industries whose empl safe supervisors, physicians and industry hygi decreased in number is 79.4%, 3.8%, 50.0 21.5% in each. Second, man receiving over 1.5 million won as an average wage of health supervisor is 27.5% in 1997, but it decreased to 25.3% in 1998. Man receiving under 100~150 million won is 48.4% in 1997, but this percent decreased to 36.3% in 1998 and 13.6% of health supervisor regularly were transformed to contingent worker in 1998. Third, especially, budgets for health and saf work place decreased to 13.8% in 1998 than 19. Fourth, industrial accident case, unre accident case, occupational disease decreased than 1997, but mortality from industrial a increased in 250%. Fifth, according to the health diagnosis report, number of case with evidence of disease increased in liver disease, tuberculosis and so on, and number of case with evidence of occupational disease increased in noise induced hearing loss, pneumoconiosis. organic solvent poisoning and so on. Sixth, this survey shows that health council, health education in duty of health supervisor was conducted passive in 1998 thin 1997, and percent of hold two or more positions is 47.6% in medical insurance, 10.7% in accountant's business 8.3 in secretory. 7.1% in telephone operator awl 22.6% in etc. Seventh, distress of health supervisor after economic crisis is 30.9% in employment instability, 19.8% in hold two or more positions and decrease of budgets. For subjugation of the trouble, the respond of active policy of government occupied most.
In spite of the importance of nuclear power as one of major electric energies in Korea, the nuclear safety has become the most serious social issue in the operation of the nuclear power plant. In this paper, a virtual work simulation program was developed to predict exposure dose during radiation work in radwaste storage. The work simulation program was developed. using $Java ^{TM}$applet and VRML-virtual reality modeling language. A numerical algorithm to find the optimal work path which minimize exposure dose during the given work, was developed and exposure dose on the optimal work path was compared with that on the shortest path. Comparing with the shortest path for the given work, the predicted optimal path consumed longer work time by II% but reduced total exposure dose by 46%. The simulation result showed that the exposure dose depended on not only work time, but also the distance between the worker and the radiation source. The developed simulation program could be a useful tool for the planning of radioactive waste work to increase the radiation safety of workers.
The entire construction safety is significantly influenced by proper uses of temporary structures. However, in current practices, temporary structures are used without sufficient planning and analysis on their impact on safety. Consequently, problems in worker safety and loss of productivity are frequently caused related to temporary structures. This paper introduces an approach that uses Building Information Modeling (BIM) to automatically create temporary structures as part of construction plans and identifies potential safety hazards related to the temporary structures. In this study, the type of temporary structure is limited to scaffolding. Automation algorithms were developed and applied to (1) analyze daily construction site conditions (2) create required scaffolding objects, and (3) identify potential safety hazards related to scaffolding. A case study using a real-world construction project demonstrated that scaffolding objects were properly created based on user-input and potential safety hazards were successfully identified without human intervention.

In contrast to the gradual reduction in the number of locally transmitted malaria cases in China, the number of imported malaria cases has been increasing since 2008. Here, we report a case of a 39-year-old Chinese man who acquired Plasmodium ovale wallikeri infection while staying in Ghana, West Africa for 6 months in 2012. Microscopic examinations of Giemsa-stained thin and thick blood smears indicated Plasmodium vivax infection. However, the results of rapid diagnostic tests, which were conducted 3 times, were not in agreement with P. vivax. To further check the diagnosis, standard PCR analysis of the small-subunit rRNA gene was conducted, based on which a phylogeny tree was constructed. The results of gene sequencing indicated that this malaria is a variant of P. ovale (P. ovale wallikeri). The infection in this patient was not a new infection, but a relapse of the infection from the one that he had contracted in West Africa.
Continuous research efforts have been made on acquiring location data on construction sites. As a result, GPS and RFID are increasingly employed on the site to track the location of equipment and materials. However, these systems are based on radio frequency technologies which require attaching tags on every target entity. Implementing the systems incurs time and costs for attaching/detaching/managing the tags or sensors. For this reason, efforts are currently being made to track construction entities using only cameras. Vision-based 3D tracking has been presented in a previous research work in which the location of construction manpower, vehicle, and materials were successfully tracked. However, the proposed system is still in its infancy and yet to be implemented on practical applications for two reasons. First, it does not involve entity matching across two views, and thus cannot be used for tracking multiple entities, simultaneously. Second, the use of a checker board in the camera calibration process entails a focus-related problem when the baseline is long and the target entities are located far from the cameras. This paper proposes a vision-based method to track multiple workers simultaneously. An entity matching procedure is added to acquire the matching pairs of the same entities across two views which is necessary for tracking multiple entities. Also, the proposed method simplified the calibration process by avoiding the use of a checkerboard, making it more adequate to the realistic deployment on construction sites.
Work-related falls are a major problem in the construction and roofing industries. To avoid serious injury to the worker caused by high decelerations or forces, different systems to absorb the energy of a fall are implemented in personal protective equipment. In this study, shock energy absorber lanyard protection tube was prepared using high tenacity PET fiber, P-aramid fiber, and UHMWPE fiber, respectively. Dynamic load test and static load test, bursting strength test based on the Korea fall protection equipment standard(Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency standard 2013-13) or conformity European safety test(CE : EN355) were conducted. Especially maximum arrest force by dynamic load test of energy absorber showed below 6,000N.
The purpose of this study is that problems caused by labor environment of cuisiniers in hotels need to be considered and studies regarding a part-time cuisinier in a special-grade hotel need to be conducted. This study analyzes the influence of labor conditions and organizational commitment of a part-time hotel cuisinier on duty satisfaction. It consists of two parts: a research based on the review of the literature and empirical study methods. The method of human resource management in hotels such as treatment of a part-time cuisinier in a special-grade hotel and the way of management as a result of an empirical study are proposed. First, as a result of conducting research on duty satisfaction to part-time cuisinier, most of them are highly satisfied with their duty regardless of their age and academic backgrounds. Second, men hold a majority; woman staffs tent to have a had time working overtime considering the situation that hotels run for 24 hours. That is the main reason why less woman staffs work in hotels than man staffs do. Part-time staffs would like to work consistently after they get upgraded to a regular worker. Forth, it is considered to break down into detailed sectors and speciality is highly demanded.
