  • A Scanning electron microscope which can obtain additional information not readily available with either the light or transmission electron microscope was used to study the mast cell shape and its granules in normal mammal tissue(rat mesentery, stomach and mouse stomach) by fretting cut using liquid nitrogen. The results showed that rat mesentery and mouse stomach mast cell surfaces had no ridges and microvilli, but revealed several microvilli projecting into the surrounding connective tissue in the rat stomach mast cell. The shape of the mast cell varied from discoid(in the rat mesenteric mast cell) to ellipsoid (rat and mouse stomach), ranging from 7.5 to $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. The shape of the nucleus was ellipsoid and nucleic membrane was adherent to the outer surface of the granules. The granules, approximately 0.2 to $0.9{\mu}m$ in diameter, were various shapes. Frequently, rounded protrusions of cytoplasmic granules could be discerned under the cell membrane. Many small granules were seen in the cytoplasm.

  • In mammal, lots of follicles start simultaneously their growth but only a few oocytes are ovulated in every sexual cycles. Most of matured and grown oocytes are destined to degenerate by atresia. However, the molecular and physiological mechanisms are not elucidated yet. The present study was designed to establish an induction method of follicular atresia with ketamine or pentobarbitone and evaluate the effect of these anesthetics on oocyte maturation and granulosa cell apoptosis of the mouse ovarian follicle. The percentages of degenerated oocyte and apoptotic granulosa cell in ketamine treated groups were significantly higher than that in controls (58.9% vs 33.5%, p<0.01, degeneration; 44.9% vs 26.6%, p<0.01, apotosis). Futhermore, it was revealed that the concentrations of progesterone in both groups were markedly higher than that in control. In cunclusion, it is considered that ketamine induce an atresia as pentobarbitone, and may be useful for inducing follicular atresia.

  • +To prove uniqueness of allylic alcohol formation from ${\alpha},{\beta}-unsaturated$ ketones by mammal enzymes, a metabolic pattern of dehydroparadols, non-pungent synthetic analogs of shogaol by Aspergillus niger was examined. Two biotransformation products of a dehydroparadol, 1-(4hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-non-1-en-3-one were accumulated in the culture broth of A. niger. They were characterized as 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-non-1-en-9-01-3-one and 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-nonan-9-o1-3-one by UV, NMR and mass spectroscopic analyses. Accumulation of allylic alcohol metabolites was not observed.

  • A constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) is a general framework that can formalize various application problems in artificial intelligence. In this paper, we will focus on an important subclass of distributed partial CSP called the distributed maximal CSP that can be applied to more practical kinds of problems. Specifically, we propose a method of solving distributed mammal CSPs using a combination of approximate and exact algorithms that yields faster optimal solutions than otherwise possible using conventional methods. Experimental results are presented that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed new approach.

  • This paper presents design of spreading codes for asynchronous DS-CDMA systems. We have been trying to generate maximal-period sequences based on one-dimensional maps with finite bits whose shapes are similar to piecewise linear chaotic maps. We propose an efficient search algorithm finding such mammal-period sequences. This algorithm makes it possible to find many kinds of maximal-period sequences with sufficiently long period for CDMA applications. We also investigate bit error rate(BER) in asynchronous DS-CDMA systems using the maximal-period binary sequences by computer simulations.

  • In this study, suitable types and measures of Wildlife Crossing Structures (WCS) for mammals of Korea were analyzed to suggest basic information for design guidelines of WCS. In order to find the types and measures, we conducted field surveys on 79 WCS and literature reviews on 159 WCS. The results of our study were as follows; Small-medium sized carnivores usually use all measures of wildlife underpass, meanwhile large sized herbivores as water deer need lager measures than 0.7 Openness Index(OI). Furthermore, we found that wildlife overpasses were usually used at the measure of 6.8 m width by every mammal. Therefore, we concluded that the proper measures should be lager than 0.7 OI for underpass and 7 m width for overpass.

  • Bacillus coagulans CACC 834 was isolated from canine feces, and its potential probiotic properties were characterized by functional genome analysis. Whole-genome sequencing of B. coagulans CACC 834 was performed using the PacBio RSII platforms. The complete genome assembly consisted of one circular chromosome (3.1 Mb) with guanine (G) + cytosine (C) content of 47.1%. Annotation revealed 3,181 protein-coding sequences (CDSs), 30 rRNAs, and 83 tRNAs. Gene associated 11% of the genes were involved in replication, recombination, and repair. We also annotated various stress-related, acid resistance, bile salt resistance and adhesion-related domains in this strain, which likely provide support in exerting probiotic action by survival under gastrointestinal tract. These results add to our comprehensive understanding of B. coagulans and suggest potential mammal-related industrial applications.

  • Aging is associated with functional and structural declines in organisms over time. Organisms as diverse as the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and mammals share signaling pathways that regulate aging and lifespan. In this review, we discuss recent combinatorial approach to aging research employing C. elegans and mammalian systems that have contributed to our understanding of evolutionarily conserved aging-regulating pathways. The topics covered here include insulin/IGF-1, mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), and sirtuin signaling pathways; dietary restriction; autophagy; mitochondria; and the nervous system. A combinatorial approach employing high-throughput, rapid C. elegans systems, and human model mammalian systems is likely to continue providing mechanistic insights into aging biology and will help develop therapeutics against age-associated disorders.

  • The import control provision of US MSA (Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act) IUU fishing is similar to that of MMPA (The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 as Amended) which caused US-Tuna(1991) case. This paper examines whether MSA's import control provision can be found to be inconsistent with WTO agreement. There is no doubt that MSA violates the Article XI:1 of the GATT 1994. The only remaining issue is whether US IUU fishing product measure is justified by the Article XX(g) and its Chapeau. However, Article XX(g) provides for a limited and conditional exception from obligations under other provisions. This paper concludes that the US MSA measure can not be justified under Article XX.

  • The evolution of genome editing technology based on CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) system has led to a paradigm shift in biological research. CRISPR/Cas9-guide RNA complexes enable rapid and efficient genome editing in mammalian cells. This system induces double-stranded DNA breaks (DSBs) at target sites and most DNA breakages induce mutations as small insertions or deletions (indels) by non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) repair pathway. However, for more precise correction as knock-in or replacement of DNA base pairs, using the homology-directed repair (HDR) pathway is essential. Until now, many trials have greatly enhanced knock-in or substitution efficiency by increasing HDR efficiency, or newly developed methods such as Base Editors (BEs). However, accuracy remains unsatisfactory. In this review, we summarize studies to overcome the limitations of HDR using the CRISPR system and discuss future direction.
