Analysis and Detection of Malicious Data Hidden in Slack Space on OOXML-based Corrupted MS-Office Digital Files

  • OOXML-based MS-Office digital files are extensively utilized by businesses and organizations worldwide. However, OOXML-based MS-Office digital files are vulnerable to forgery and corruption attack by including hidden suspicious information, which can lead to activating malware or shell code being hidden in the file. Such malicious code can cause a computer system to malfunction or become infected with ransomware. To prevent such attacks, it is necessary to analyze and detect the corruption of OOXML-based MS-Office files. In this paper, we examine the weaknesses of the existing OOXML-based MS-Office file structure and analyzes how concealment and forgery are performed on MS-Office digital files. As a result, we propose a system to detect hidden data effectively and proactively respond to ransomware attacks exploiting MS-Office security vulnerabilities. Proposed system is designed to provide reliable and efficient detection of hidden data in OOXML-based MS-Office files, which can help organizations protect against potential security threats.

Methods for Early Fire Detection and Fire Position Determination Inside the Nacelle of Wind Turbine Generator System (풍력발전기 나셀 내부 화재 조기감지 및 화재 위치 판별 방법)

  • This paper presents a method for early fire detection and fire position determination inside the nacelle of wind turbine generator system. The rising temperature and obscuration rates inside the nacelle were used as parameters for fire detection, which can minimize the possibility of a fire detection malfunction because these rising rates do not depend on the absolute values of temperature and obscuration. The fire position was determined using the time difference among various sensor positions for fire detection. The performance of the method was tasted using sets of experiments in a nacelle simulator.

  • Adversarial attack is a technique that causes a malfunction of classification models by adding noise that cannot be distinguished by humans, which poses a threat to a deep learning model. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to detect adversarial images using Gaussian process regression. Existing deep learning-based adversarial detection methods require numerous adversarial images for their training. The proposed method overcomes this problem by performing classification based on the statistical features of adversarial images and clean images that are extracted by Gaussian process regression with a small number of images. This technique can determine whether the input image is an adversarial image by applying Gaussian process regression based on the intermediate output value of the classification model. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves higher detection performance than the other deep learning-based adversarial detection methods for powerful attacks. In particular, the Gaussian process regression-based detector shows better detection performance than the baseline models for most attacks in the case with fewer adversarial examples.

  • Many victims and property damages are caused in fires every year. In this paper, intelligent fire-detection systems with embedded fire-detection algorithms for early fire detection and alarm is proposed to reduce fire damages by using image processing technique, high speed digital signal processor(DSP) technique, and information technique. The fire detection algorithms used for the proposed systems consist of flame and smoke detection algorithms. If flame or smoke is detected respectively, the corresponding alarm signal can be transferred to management computer. And if flame and smoke is detected simultaneously, the fire alarm signal shall be generated. Through several experiments in the physical environment, it is shown that the proposed system works well without malfunction.

Collision Detection Algorithm using a 9-axis Sensor in Road Facility (9축센서 기반의 도로시설물 충돌감지 알고리즘)

  • Road facilities such as CCTV poles have potential risk of collision accidents with a car. A collision detection algorithm installed in the facility allows the collision accident to be known remotely. Most collision detection algorithms are operated by simply focusing on whether a collision have occurred, because these methods are used to measure only acceleration data from a 3-axis sensor to detect collision. However, it is difficult to detect other detailed information such as malfunction of the sensor, collision direction and collision strength, because it is not known without witness the accident. Therefore, we proposed enhanced detection algorithm to get the collision direction, and the collision strength from the tilt of the facility after accident using a 9-axis sensor in this paper. In order to confirm the performance of the algorithm, an accuracy evaluation experiment was conducted according to the data measurement cycle and the invocation cycle to an detection algorithm. As a result, the proposed enhanced algorithm confirmed 100% accuracy for 50 weak collisions and 50 strong collisions at the 9-axis data measurement cycle of 10ms and the invocation cycle of 1,000ms. In conclusion, the algorithm proposed is expected to provide more reliable and detailed information than existing algorithm.

  • Collision detection plays a key role in collision mitigation system. The malfunction of the collision mitigation system can result in another dangerous situation or unexpected feeling to driver and passenger. To prevent this situation, the collision time, offset, and collision decision should be determined from the appropriate collision detection algorithm. This study focuses on a method to determine the time to collision (TTC) and frontal offset (FO) between the ego vehicle and the target object. The path prediction method using the ego vehicle information is proposed to improve the accuracy of TTC and FO. The path prediction method utilizes the ego vehicle motion data for better prediction performance. The proposed algorithm is developed based on laser scanner. The performance of the proposed detection algorithm is validated in simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents a simple and practical method which enables to prevent malfunction of protection relay due to differential current caused by one end CT saturation in case of external fault. This method uses difference of magnitude(instantaneous value) between the both end current just before the occurrence of differential current without a separate method to CT staturation detection. One end CT saturation is simulated by current transformer model using type-96 component and the presented method is verified by using EMTP MODELS with respect to internal and external fault with one end CT staturation. The presented method distinguished rightly bewteen external and internal fault with one end CT saturation. This information can be used to prevent malfunction of current differential protection relay in case of external fault. And this method is not affected by sampling rate and has no calculation burden, so it will be applicable to differential current protection relay with ease.

  • A study is performed for the effective detection method of a fault which is occurred during operation in a small turbojet engine with non-linear characteristics used by unmanned air vehicle. For this study the non-linear dynamic model of the engine is derived from transient thermodynamic cycle analysis. Also for inducing real operation conditions the controller is developed associated with unscented Kalman filter to estimate noises. Sequential probability ratio test is introduced as a real time method to detect a fault which is manipulated for simulation as a malfunction of rotational speed sensor contaminated by large amount of noise. The method applied to the fault detection during operation verifies its effectiveness and high feasibility by showing good and definite decision performances of the fault.

  • This paper includes new protection concepts and practices to avoid mechanical damage of three-phase transformer by asynchronous operation of synchronous generator. this failure is often caused just after synchronous generator was connected to the grid because of a malfunction of the controller or misconnections of the synchronous devices. The results of the studies on the analyzing the phenomenon of asynchronous operation experienced in Korea and rapidly detecting asynchronous state are descrived.

  • Because an electric railway vehicle is a large scale moving load, it can cause various kinds of power quality problems in the railroad power system. The power quality impacts are considered as the strong instantaneous stresses to the related power systems and can cause an accelerating aging and a malfunction of the power supplying components. Therefore, it is necessary to detect the small and intermittent symptoms mixed in the voltage waveform. However, they cannot be detected by the triggering functions of the existing power analyzers installed in the railway systems. This paper will examine the drawback of some fast detection tools and propose an advanced detecting and analyzing method based on a combined TEO and STFT algorithm.
