The purpose of this study is to examine the theoretical background of art make-up and surrealism in depth and shed new light on creative thoughts coming through application of Depaysement and various kinds of expression realized through art make-up, where art and make-up are incorporated. The study method is to conduct prior research followed by a theoretical study of the concept and techniques of Surrealistic Depaysement and theoretical background of art make-up through specialized books and internet sources and then to create 4 artworks representing characteristics of Depaysement technique categorized in dual image, fusion of heterogeneous objects, modification and conversion, and change of space. This examination resulted in first, a foundational ground for fusion and use of art and make-up sectors by creating a realm of expression based on creativity through incorporation of art and makeup and second, a sense of freshness and unfamiliar-ness by creation of an image in a completely unfamiliar space. Therefore, the researcher sets a direction for ways to come up with new ideas and expand the realm of expression and hopes that the art-makeup does not just become an aesthetic tool but turn itself as an art genre.

The purpose of this study is to clarify how modern formative art reflects surrealism and propose a Art Make-up expressed based on the trend. The study also aims at demonstrating the part that the Make-up based on surrealism is also an artistic being keeping pace with the trend of art. For the purpose, the study reviewed related theoretical backgrounds and works as manufactured. Based on these theoretical backgrounds, the author anufactured works of his own, realizing the combination between theoretical and practical aspects. Those works were motivated from existing surrealistic paintings or otherwise made surrealistically through creation by the author for himself. The works included , (Work 2-MAGRITTE's Expression>, , , and . Results of the study, which were obtained through manufacturing the works, can be described as follows. First, senses of modern formation and line were emerged by applying the materials and images frequently shown in surrealistic paintings to human bodies. Second, characteristics of the Art Make-up for artistic image were revealed, not limited to colors, expressions, subjects, techniques and materials. Third, an unlimited, interesting expression of the Make-up using a variety of materials became possible by applying extremely subjective, surrealistic paintings and images in various ways. This paper proposed that the Make-up should be a artistic image itself, not as a secondary means for an obvious expression of personal beauty which has been maintained since the ancient times. The researcher tried to put the Art Make-up into our daily life by making creative works which viewed and psychologically enjoyed by people and by proposing the works as sort of image theme to the spectators.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the aesthetic characteristics of splatter films' make-up. Splatter films are one of horror movies that consist of gore and excessive violence. These represent the cruelty with the victims' physical damages made by special effect make-up. Splatter make-up is classified into the trickle of blood, the cutting of body, and the exposure of the inner parts of body, and changes a fake into a fact with reality. The aesthetic characteristics of splatter make-up were shown in the uncanny, the abjection and the irony. The uncanny which is strange and displeasure feeling is presented by the fragmentation of body, and the living of nonliving thing. The abjection means humble image, and the concept of border or ambiguity. The former is expressed by the matters of body's secretion and excretion. The latter is shown by the use of blood(the life and death) and corpses(the human and inhuman), and animatronics(the human and instruments). The irony which is a sense of humor caused by conflict between external appearance and reality. This is represented by comics induced by discord between excessive violence and make-up tricks, and the brutality and the weakness.

The purpose of this study is to suppose makeup design based on formative elements of facial image according to the facial image type of Korean women in their 20s. For this study, literature review were performed. Surveys were conducted twice for empirical research. The survey targeted 220 university students in their 20s. SPSS 12.0 statistics program was used to analyze the results, and T-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test. The results of the study are as follows. First, it was concluded that the effective structural formative elements are different according to the types of facial image. Second, by analyzing the differences in perceiving naked facial image and modified face shape image, modified skin color image, modified makeup color image of all types of facial image, it was found that the formative elements are different according to facial images, and that there are differences in the effectiveness of each factors.

The purpose of the study was to examine make-up expression elements of horror characters as an evil spirit, a vampire, a zombie, a monster and a psycho murderer through make-up, focused on horror movies of the United States after1960s. First, an evil spirit was expressed that the pupil grew dim without a focus and the skin was torn by going bad and rot completely. Also, it was expressed that its teeth was changed to pointed canine teeth as a wild beast and its pale and bloodless face showed blood vessels clearly. To express its bloodless and pale skin, air brush was swept into the skin over several times. Its canine tooth was made acryl powder into its shape and was harden to make its shape smooth. Also, it was colored to show people like the real thing. Second, a vampire was expressed by make-up elements as long nails, a sharp canine tooth, a pale skin with a blood vessel and dead eyes. Its rough skin and long nails were manufactured with latex foam, which was colored like the skin. Third, a monster image as a werewolf was expressed by make-up elements as fur, sharp teeth, changed nails and toenails, a rough skin and a face changed to a wolf. Rubber mask and rubber body suit were manufactured as a make-up of special character and so all its body was changed. Fourth, a psycho murderer and body-deformed man were expressed by make-up elements as a distorted mask, swelled-up and deformed skull and face form, terribly deformed body, discolored and hang down skin and teeth with an indeterminate form. Its body and face were manufactured by the foam latex technology according to make-up design as a make-up of special character.

We build up distributed database of medical picture and design and realize H/W & S/W of special image workstation. We build up high speed image transmission system for distributed database and retrieval of various medical pictures in w ard through image transmission system and realize integrated image diagnosis. This system improves medical service by speedy diagnosis and enables more precise diagnosis by integrated image diagnosis through distributed database. In economical view this system curtails huge cost of film processing and transmission, which make medical expense cheaf, because it does not use film. We built up PACS in pediatric hospital of Seoul National University Hopital and tested the system with various medical pictures and showed that speedy integrated image diagnosis is possible.

China and Japan are geographically close and the two countries had shared the Chinese Character Culture and the thoughts of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism since the ancient age. They also actively exchanged culture in various areas. Some cultural exchanges had been caused by surrounding environment and culture had been introduced to other country in a natural way; while some cultural exchanges had been forcibly introduced through artificial process. It is believed that such cultural phenomenon must have had impact on the make-up cultures of the two countries and it was assumed that there must have been commons and differences in the make-up cultures of the two countries. This study explored the historical background of the Ching dynasty of China and the Edo Age in Japan, which are in the same time frame, and studied the aesthetic consciousness of the two countries at the time. Then the make-up style of ladies in the two countries had been studied to find out how their aesthetic consciousnesses had been expressed in the make-ups of the two countries. Then the commons and differences in make-up skills between the two countries had been identified. According to the study results, the main stream of aesthetics during the Ching dynasty in China can be classified into Confucianism aesthetics and Taoism aesthetics. On the other hand, the main stream of aesthetics during the Edo Age in Japan can be classified into "mitate(見立)", "ikki(いき)" and "garumi(かるみ). The skin care in the make-up culture of Ching dynasty in China was based on "rouge (?脂, yanzhi)" and "powder(粉, fen)". The Ching ladies loved the make-up style using rouge. It had been same both in the high society and common people. The eyebrow care was delicate and curved so that the feminine beauty with elegant spirit could be emphasized. The lips had been expressed to be smaller and the ladies tried to express elegance and reliability, rather than frail and tender feminine image. The skin care in the make-up culture of Edo Age in Japan focused on even applying of white powder so that the face would look soft. The eyebrow make-up was a very important part of the make-up. The shapes of eyebrow had been advanced in various styles and there had been eyebrow make-up styles such as "crescent-shaped brow (三日月), "crane style brow (鶴眉) and "Tang style brow (唐眉). The lips had been applied of thick red color, imitating the make-up skill of the ladies in the entertainment business. The lips make-up skill expressing the lips in two colors had been quite popular. Among the make-up skills during the Edo Age in Japan, the "black teeth (齒黑)" can be said as the most unique make-up style of Edo Age.

Performance art is an integrated genre of different art areas, and make-up is a visual art area to give lively effects to the performance art, which makes actors and actresses changed into the characters of plays. It can be said to be a kind of deliverer of idea to help effectively understand the contents of the performance. When we are in the world abundant in various cultures and innumerable styles of expression of different countries, we should rediscover the value of the beauty of our traditional masks that have represented the emotion and thought of Han nation, which we can find in play culture of our ancestors that has kept our ancestors' value system. That's the way we can get continuous life force and competitive power of our traditional culture. The Korean traditional masks haven't only been for the prevention of bad luck and the prayer of fortune, but also well expressed Korean people's looks, features and personalities according to the roles. They are excellent artistic works in themselves, and many studies have been performed on the analyses and uses of the features of the masks in various fields due to their good expression of different cultural aspects, while the studies in the light of make-up are rarely performed. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the features of the Korean traditional masks and, by using this analysis, to present effective make-up designs in outdoor performances through a stage performance. In addition, this article also tries to present the orientation of make-up as an expression of artistic image, and to expand the expression area of make-up by using the Korean traditional masks in the light of make-up. For this purpose, I examined the related literature and the precedent study materials to find the origin and kinds of the Korean traditional masks, and analyzed the features of the masks. Furthermore, I established the make-up design plan using the material features of the Korean traditional masks by analyzing the characters in actual performance works, and presented the photos of works actually performed.

Many cities in developed countries are showing their unique urban image reflecting their own culture, history, and aesthetic tastes. Especially color, one of the major design elements, has greater impact than other visual factors to form an unique urban characteristic. Despite the long history and cultural background, Seoul as a capital city of Korea does not have been successful to show an unique city image with the perspective of color. As a leading city of design, Seoul is trying to make its own urban identity through the symbolic environmental color, 'Seoul Color'. The purpose of this study is to identify the perception on the Seoul Color established by Seoul City among design practitioners and to suggest strategies for implementing the 'Seoul Color' in various fields of environmental design to set up un unique urban image of Seoul City. For this purpose, questionnaire survey was used and 77 questionnaires were analysed. Although most of the respondents did not know the 'Seoul Color', they recognized the importance of it as a major tool of building an unique urban identity of Seoul City. Respondents recognized the representing color image of Seoul as gray. Therefore, it shows a need for environmental policy to make an eco-friendly and lively city image of Seoul instead of current monotonous image. Also in order to make a unique urban image of Seoul city, 'Seoul Color' should be applied to the shape of landscape of Seoul differently. In addition, many strategies including advertisement, education, making up obvious goals for using the 'Seoul Color', and so on were suggested as conclusion.
