  • Since the most part of maintenance work for EMU depends on the worker's know-how, the quality of maintenance is different according to the worker's skill and experience. Especially EMU is composed of the various parts such as electrics, electronics, communication, signal, and machinery, etc., and performs its function by their organic work. Therefore it is very difficult to improve the quality of maintenance for EMU. In this paper we purpose how to change the know-how-based maintenance method to knowledge-based maintenance method. Consequently we can ensure the quality of maintenance for EMU, and improve the quality by continuous maintaining the knowledge.

A study on Profile Measurement for Railway Wheels using High Speed Camera and Vision Technology (고속 하이비젼 카메라 기술을 이용한 철도차량 차륜형상 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Maintenance and repair devices used for the inspection of the main parts of domestic railway vehicles have been imported from abroad. Especially, one of the representative domestic devices, the 'Wheel Profile Inspector System (WPIS)', was made by benchmarking foreign devices; this vehicle has been operated in the field. However, problems such as the reliability and performance of the WPIS in operation have appeared. In this study, in order to improve the precision and reliability of the WPIS for maintenance and inspection of railway vehicle wheels, the researchers improved the railway vehicle's WPIS by applying high-speed vision camera technology and an optimized image algorithm. The test results show that the reliability of the developed WPIS improved by approximately 10.4% compared to that of the conventional system.

  • Subway operators in the country have their own heavy maintenance facilities for maintaining rolling stock(EMU). However, it is true that the heavy maintenance facilities are not utilized 100% with the recent trend of lengthening maintenance cycle(intervals). With the fact, this enabled the existing maintenance facilities to be utilized for other purposes. By taking advantage of spare facilities and the maintenance staff with rolling stock assembly abilities, subway operators can assemble rolling stock by procuring parts for the assembly instead of purchasing trains from other companies. It is estimated that this will enhance the operator's technology and have a great impact on the management skill as well. This study attempts to find out how the heavy maintenance factory can be utilized for rolling stock assembly.

  • The Railroad Safety Act's regulation reads as follows. "The Minister of Construction and Transportation may qualify and authorize the product to guarantee performance and safety of parts, machine, and device used in Railway fields." Another regulation reads as follows."“The guidelines about targets, standards, and procedures of Quality and Authority in first provision are decided as Ministry of Construction and Transportation Decree." The software used in rail cars and facilities is considered as a railway product. Therefore, it is qualified and authorized for acquiring the safety of rail cars and facilities. The software businesses shall again a Quality and Authority for applying a software to the rail cars and facilities. This paper regulates some guidelines that are needed to develop a software. The procedures that a software developer performs are divided by plan, requirement, design, implementation, and maintenance. The procedures that a software verification person performs are classified by verification plan, requirement verification, design verification, implementation verification, testing verification, maintenance verification, and safety activity. The entire processes and detailed activities to develope and verify a software are described as new guidelines.

Analysis of Train Operation Obstacle Using Number of Failures and Delay Time of Electric Door System (전기식 도어시스템의 고장건수 및 지연시간을 활용한 열차운행장애 분석)

  • This paper analyzes functions of component parts of D-Urban Railway's door system along with operation obstacle risks on frequency(the number of occurrences/year) and severity(delay time/the number of occurrences). Based on this, the paper presents improvements and current system's problems after obstacle risks of EMU and door system are appled. The obstacle of door system causes corrosion of main parts such as DCU due to heat problem of operation environment, problems of maintenance methods and deterioration. DCUs on PCBs with more than 50% pattern corrosion cause problems. Even though the number of door system's obstacle occurrences for the last 5 years is 42, along with 104 minutes of operation obstacle, EMU operation obstacle risk is low(Level 1), which indicates there is limit in matrix of railway risks presented by the standard of railway safety management system. Therefore, it is necessary to have railway risk matrix suitable for the field. Finally, the paper deducts the obstacle risks through frequency and severity. Since 2017 when the risks of EMU and door system's obstacle, that of EMU has been 24(47% reduced) and that of door system has been average 9.5 per year(23% reduced).

  • BOM(Bill of Materials) is a listing or description of raw materials, parts, and assemblies that define a product. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed BOM management system, which is very important to maintenance information system of urban transit. We develop component based BOM data and rule-set to design data structure that is mutually independent and integrated efficiently. It divides data whit management interface using component technology. The component based master BOM have advantage in database size and flexibility. Flexibility is measured as the number of updating records in accordance with added new product or engineering change. In database size, component based BOM is the best. we develop master BOM management system in web environment.

  • There are many economical and industrial as well as social demands enabling smart management of railway vehicle including parts management by introducing RFID system in railway vehicle. In this paper, overseas researches and developments which use cases of RFID were investigated and analyzed. In this process, cases of various industries adopting RFID technology as well as cases of railway part were investigated. RFID system is used mainly for railway vehicle position detection and identification of vehicles in the field of railway. Also there are cases of application on traceability management of railway vehicle parts. The system in which RFID technology can be applied to railway parts management and traceability management is necessary for smart management of domestic railway vehicle.

  • This dissertation finds out trouble types and occurrence regions using the faulty statistics of nondestructive test items in rolling stock parts of the Seoul Metro and using mechanical test about defective and broken parts with broken surface observation, cutting examination about trouble region, hardness experiment and tensile test. Also this dissertation finds out cause of trouble and damage through observation of microscopic formation using metallurgical microscope and scanning electron microscope, residual stress measurement about welding parts and damage diagnosis about defective and broken parts. Moreover it will present the improved plan of nondestructive method about trouble and the removal method of defect and repair welding and find solutions of reliability in parts and preventive maintenance.

  • It is necessary to apply a non-contact high-speed scanning system that can measure in real time in order to prevent the dropping and deformation of the main parts of railway vehicles during high-speed running. Recently, research on a scanning system that detects the deformation state of main parts from a video image taken using a high-performance camera has been actively pursued. In this study, we researched an analysis algorithm of a high-speed scanning system that uses a high-performance camera to monitor the deformation and drop-out state of the main components of the running units equipment in real time.

  • The present paper to relate with the maintenance of the high-speed vehicle, KTX and is to treat a reliability evaluation. The reliability of the high-speed vehicle while operating between-failure average mileage (MKBSF) and parts between-failure average mileage (MKBF), 1,000,000 per km service failure number of items and availability and per km evaluated a maintenance expense. The reliability evaluation results and 2007 year reliability management indexes compared in 2006 years and they improved, per km the maintenance expense compared at 2006 and 36.6% was decreased. Reliability management activity leads and availability of the high-speed vehicle, safety improves and with the fact that will be able to decrease the maintenance expense which is an economic scale of railroad service is expected.
