This article aims to quantitatively predict the snowmelt in extreme cold regions, considering a combination of grayscale and neural models. The traditional non-equidistant GM(1,1) prediction model is optimized by adjusting the time-distance weight matrix, optimizing the background value of the differential equation and optimizing the initial value of the model, and using the BP neural network for the first. The adjusted ice forecast model has an accuracy of 0.984 and posterior variance and the average forecast error value is 1.46%. Compared with the GM(1,1) and BP network models, the accuracy of the prediction results has been significantly improved, and the quantitative prediction of the ice sheet is more accurate. The monitoring and maintenance of the structure by quantitative prediction model by gray models was clearly demonstrated in the model.

In this study, the relationships between the displacement and stress of the tunnel using various analysis methods were compared with monitoring results carried out during construction and maintenance monitoring. The behavior of tunnel were measured in the subway tunnel passing comparative soft the weathering and analyzed both security and mechanical characteristics of the tunnel lining. With the results of simplified monitoring observed in top heading and bench excavation tunnel, it is confirmed that the crown settlement is larger than the surface settlement. it is interesting to note that the crown settlement and the crown shotcrete lining stress are widely used monitoring items for the back analysis. It is analyzed that the residual water pressure applied in the drainage type tunnel is reasonable.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to improve the tunnel maintenance and monitoring technology by establishing the maintenance, management, and monitoring standards for shield and TBM tunnels, which had been applied more in recent years. Method: This study comprehensively analyzed and compared the data and model simulations of Seoul Subway Lines 7 and 9 and Bundang Line, shield and TBM tunnels in South Korea, tunnels in France and Japan, and Channel Tunnel in the UK. Result: This study set maintenance and monitoring standards when there was no design estimate based on numerical analyses such as section design and section analysis regarding the maintenance and monitoring section of shield and TBM tunnels. Conclusion: It is necessary to determine safety by comprehensively considering not only each monitoring item but also the changing trend and correlation of all items and compensation of the tunnel.
One of the important trends for condition monitoring in the 21st century is the development of smart sensors that will permit the cost-effective continuous monitoring of key machine equipments. In this study, an integrated in-line oil monitoring sensor assigned for continuous in situ monitoring multiple parameters of oil performance is presented. The sensor estimates oil deterioration based on the information about chemical degradation, total contamination, water content of oil and oil temperature. The oil oxidation is estimated by "chromatic ratio", total contamination is measured by the changes in optical density of oil in three optical wave-bands ('Red', 'Green' and 'Blue') and water content is evaluated as relative saturation of oil by water. In order to evaluate the sensor's effectiveness, the sensor was applied to several used oil samples in steel making industry and the results were compared with those measured by standard test methods.
This paper aims to perform optimal operation and maintenance with an integrated monitoring system for offshore wind platforms. Based on the wind direction and wind speed data of existing wind farms, a monitoring system was established along with weather and weather data to maximize the operational efficiency of wind farms. Compared to wind power on land, offshore wind power is difficult to maintain due to weather, logistics and geographical limitations. Therefore, economic analysis of actual operation and maintenance is essential for large-scale offshore wind farms. In this paper, the availability of offshore wind farms was analyzed by using personnel resources, parts inventory, Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) and Specialized service Operation Vessel (SOV) etc. before the actual operation and maintenance of wind farms. A comparative analysis was conducted to determine the optimum operating efficiency and economical maintenance costs.

The aviation gas turbine is composed of many expensive and highly precise parts and operated in high pressure and temperature gas. When breakdown or performance deterioration occurs due to the hostile environment and component degradation, it severely influences the aircraft operation. Recently to minimize this problem the third generation of predictive maintenance known as condition based maintenance has been developed. This method not only monitors the engine condition and diagnoses the engine faults but also gives proper maintenance advice. Therefore it can maximize the availability and minimize the maintenance cost. The advanced gas turbine health monitoring method is classified into model based diagnosis (such as observers, parity equations, parameter estimation and Gas Path Analysis (GPA)) and soft computing diagnosis (such as expert system, fuzzy logic, Neural Networks (NNs) and Genetic Algorithms (GA)). The overview shows an introduction, advantages, and disadvantages of each advanced engine health monitoring method. In addition, some practical gas turbine health monitoring application examples using the GPA methods and the artificial intelligent methods including fuzzy logic, NNs and GA developed by the author are presented.
Although readjustment of monitoring system for existing fill dam maintenance is needed by the sustainable increasing of the abandonment rate of monitoring devices by malfunction through the life-cycle of dam, monitoring plans for long-term dam safety has relied on the experience and the opinion of minor expert group without systematic and quantitative analysis on the failure modes and the priority order of monitoring devices on maintenance. In this study the priority order of monitoring devices of existing 5 fill dams was evaluated quantitatively based on the preceding study (Andersen et al, 1999) and the result recommended the establishment of real-time monitoring system for seepage, pore pressure and crest settlement as the readjustment plan for existing fill dam monitoring system. This readjustment plan matches well with the recommendation of PWRI (1984), JCOLD (1986) and the results from Bagherzadeh-Khakkahali and Mirghasemi (2005).
The purpose of this paper is to extensively review the condition monitoring (CM) techniques using empirical models in an effort to reduce or eliminate unexpected downtimes in general industry, and to illustrate the feasibility of applying them to the nuclear industry. CM provides on-time warnings of system states to enable the optimal scheduling of maintenance and, ultimately, plant uptime is maximized. Currently, most maintenance processes tend to be either reactive, or part of scheduled, or preventive maintenance. Such maintenance is being increasingly reported as a poor practice for two reasons: first, the component does not necessarily require maintenance, thus the maintenance cost is wasted, and secondly, failure catalysts are introduced into properly working components, which is worse. This paper first summarizes the technical aspects of CM including state estimation and state monitoring. The mathematical background of CM is mature enough even for commercial use in the nuclear industry. Considering the current computational capabilities of CM, its application is not limited by technical difficulties, but by a lack of desire on the part of industry to implement it. For practical applications in the nuclear industry, it may be more important to clarify and quantify the negative impact of unexpected outcomes or failures in CM than it is to investigate its advantages. In other words, while issues regarding accuracy have been targeted to date, the concerns regarding robustness should now be concentrated on. Standardizing the anticipated failures and the possibly harsh operating conditions, and then evaluating the impact of the proposed CM under those conditions may be necessary. In order to make the CM techniques practical for the nuclear industry in the future, it is recommended that a prototype CM system be applied to a secondary system in which most of the components are non-safety grade. Recently, many activities to enhance the safety and efficiency of the secondary system have been encouraged. With the application of CM to nuclear power plants, it is expected to increase profit while addressing safety and economic issues.
The number of the PV systems installed in south korea has been gradually increasing. Interest of operation & management of PV System is rising up as PV System installation trends to increase. The vital function of operation & management is the monitoring system. Most monitoring systems are only available for equipment of suppliers and manufacturers. In this study, a monitoring system was implemented to support multi-domain equipment (inverter, junction box, water distribution board, environmental sensors) that are not limited to specific manufacturers. Monitoring system includes a visualization function, which makes it easy for users to check the power generation and the operation status of the equipment of PV System. In the future, this monitoring system will be utilized as an operation & maintenance foundation element in the PV system industry.
The objective of the Maintenance Rule (MR) is to require monitoring of the overall continuing effectiveness of licensee maintenance programs to ensure that the safety related and certain nonsafety-related SSCs are capable of performing their intended functions. In Korea, as risk informed applications and regulation become active, the necessity of Performance Based Regulation (PBR) has increased. The objective of this article is to study the effectiveness of MR based on performance and feasibility of MR adoption at Korean Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) for effective maintenance and regulation.
