Effects of Non-protein Energy Intake on the Concentrations of Plasma Metabolites and Insulin, and Tissue Responsiveness and Sensitivity to Insulin in Goats

  • A glucose clamp technique was used to investigate the effects of non-protein energy intake on tissue responsiveness and sensitivity to insulin for glucose metabolism in intact adults male goats. Three goats were fed diets at 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 times of ME for maintenance, each for 21 d. Crude protein intake was 1.5 times of maintenance requirement in each treatment. Tissue responsiveness and sensitivity to insulin were evaluated using a hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp technique with four levels of insulin infusion, beginning at 13 h after feeding. Concentrations of plasma metabolites and insulin were also measured at 3, 6 and 13 h after feeding, for evaluating effects of non-protein energy intake on the metabolic status of the animals. Increasing non-protein energy intake prevented an increase in plasma NEFA concentration at 13 h after feeding (p = 0.03). Plasma urea-nitrogen and total amino-nitrogen concentrations decreased (p<0.01) and increased (p = 0.03), respectively, with increasing non-protein energy intake across time relating to feeding. Plasma insulin concentration was unaffected (p = 0.43) by non-protein energy intake regardless of time relating to feeding. In the glucose clamp experiment, increasing non-protein energy intake decreased numerically (p = 0.12) the plasma insulin concentration at half-maximal glucose infusion rate (insulin sensitivity), but did not affect (p = 0.60) maximal glucose infusion rate (tissue responsiveness to insulin). The present results suggest that an increase in non-protein energy intake may enhance insulin sensitivity for glucose metabolism, unlike responsiveness to insulin, in adult male goats. The possible enhancement in insulin sensitivity may play a role in establishing anabolic status in the body, when excess energy is supplied to the body.

외부강선 파단실험을 통한 노후 PSC 교량의 보강효과 평가 (Evaluation of Reinforcement Effect of Deteriorated PSC Beam through Cutting Its External Tendons)

  • 본 연구에서는 장기공용 중 외부강선보강공법에 의하여 보강된 PSC Beam교량에 대한 강선 파단 시험을 통하여 보강효과를 분석하였다. 외부강선 보강효과를 분석하기 위하여 기 보강된 강선을 인위적으로 절단하면서, 교량의 처짐과 변형률을 측정하였다. 또한 강선절단 전과 후에 재하시험을 실시하여 교량의 거동변화를 평가하였다. 실험결과에 의하면 외부강선 절단 전과 후의 재하시험을 통하여 보강효과가 교량의 거동특성을 크게 변화시키지는 않지만, 보강시의 긴장력에 의하여 고유진동수는 증가하였다. 외부강선 절단시의 처짐과 응력 계측결과로부터 보강효과가 충분히 유지되고 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 구조해석 결과와도 잘 일치하였다. 따라서 외부강선을 이용하여 노후교량을 보강할 경우 정밀구조해석을 통하여 그 효과를 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • 극한하중을 견딜 수 있도록 설계된 구조물이라도 내재된 확률변수의 불확실성 때문에 구조물의 응답특성을 평가하는데 있어서 기존의 결정론적 방법에 비해 확률유한요소법을 이용하는 것이 보다 합리적일 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실제 시공된 사장교를 대상으로 확률변수가 교량의 안전성에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 평가하기 위해 민감도 분석을 수행하였다. 초기형상해석을 수행한 후, 확률유한요소해석 및 민감도 분석과정의 효율성을 위해 섭동법을 이용하여 해석프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 해석프로그램의 정확성은 몬테카르로 시뮬레이션 방법에 의한 해석프로그램을 개발하여 검증하였다. 각각의 확률변수의 변동계수에 따른 대상 사장교의 응답에 대한 민감도 분석을 수행한 결과, 외부하중에 의한 영향이 지배적인 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 부재강성 및 케이블의 긴장력 등도 부재에 따라 큰 영향을 나타내므로, 구조물 설계 시 개발된 프로그램이 안전성 확보에 기여할 것으로 판단된다.

열차의 제동 및 궤도의 조도가 교량의 동적 거동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Braking of Trains and Roughness of Rails on the Dynamic Behaviors of Bridges)

  • 열차의 제동 및 궤도의 조도가 교량의 동적 거동에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 교량구간에서 열차와 교량의 상호작용과 연행하중효과를 라그랑주 운동방정식을 사용하여 고려하였다. 뉴마크 직접적분법을 사용하여 유도한 운동방정식의 해를 구하였으며, 조도성분에 대한 고려는 레일의 조도성분에 대한 PSD 제안 곡선을 사용하였다. 열차의 급제동에 따른 제동효과에 대한 고려는 ASTM E503-82에서의 감속도의 변화량을 근간으로 미끄럼저항을 모형화하였으며, 제동시의 구름저항은 고려치 않았다. 단순지지된 교량과 열차 1량에 대한 예제를 통해 이 연구에서 제안된 방법에 대한 수치적 검증과 매개변수해석을 수행하였다.

전기집진기 예지보전 단계에서의 고장모드영향분석 (FMEA of Electrostatic Precipitator for Preventive Maintenance)

  • 전 세계 90 %의 인구가 WHO의 연평균 미세먼지 노출 기준(10 ㎍/㎥)을 초과한 공기를 흡입하고 있다. 전 세계적으로 육상뿐만 아니라 해양에서 발생하는 질소산화물에 대한 규제를 통해 2차 오염물질, 초미세먼지 저감에 대해 노력하고 있으며 국내에서는 선박에서 미세먼지 발생의 주요한 원인인 황 함유량 저감과 환경친화적 선박의 개발 및 보급 등을 통해 깨끗한 해양환경 조성을 위한 노력을 하고 있다. 디젤엔진 유해 배출가스 저감을 위한 기술 중 압력 손실이 적고 높은 집진 효율 및 NOx의 제거와 유지 관리의 장점이 많은 전기 집진기의 수요와 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 총톤수 999톤급 선박의 2,427 kW 선박용 디젤엔진의 미세먼지 저감을 목적으로 개발된 전기 집진기를 예지보전단계에서 고장모드영향분석을 통해 장비 품질을 높여 선박 내에서의 내구연한을 높이고자 위험 우선순위 도출하였다. 위험 우선순위는 고장모드 241(poor dust capture efficiency)이 RPN 180으로 가장 높았다. Collecting electrode에서 가장 많은 고위험 고장모드를 검출하여 집중관리 부품으로 관리해야 할 필요가 있었으며 원인으로 진동과 핀 풀림으로 인한 유격 불량이 가장 많이 검출되었다. 핀 풀림 역시 근본적으로는 선체 또는 장비에서 발생하는 진동이 원인이 되어 발생할 수 있는 사항이기 때문에 핀 풀림이 발생하는 개소에 보완이 필요하겠다.

천식 완해기 유지치료로서 AF-365의 임상적 효과 (Clinical effects of AF-365 for maintenance therapy in chronic stages of asthmas)

  • Backgrounds : Gamichungsangboha-tang extract has been known to improve pulmonary functions and quality of life within four weeks of treatment. Cessation of treatment causes recurrence of symptoms and regression of pulmonary function and poorer quality of life. Long-term herbal therapy is difficult to maintain due to economic burden and other reasons. AF-365 is made with reduced dosage of Gamichungsangboha-tang extract. This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of AF-365 for maintenance therapy. Materials and Methods : The subjects consisted of 27 patients with asthma who had beed treated with AF-365 for four weeks. First, patients were treated with Gamichungsangboha-tang extract for four weeks. Second patients stopped herbal medicine for four weeks and after that they took AF-365. Pulmonary function test(PFT) was checked before and after four weeks of treatment. Quality of Life Questionnaire for Adult Korean Asthmatics(QLQAKA) was checked every two weeks from the beginning. The effects of AF-365 were analysed throughout the last four weeks. Results : Treatment of AF-365 for four weeks resulted in significant increase in PEFR%, QLQAKA. The QLQAKA of the step3, step4 group classified by Global initiative for asthma(GINA) showed significant improvement, and the QLQAKA of the step2 group showed no significant difference. In step3 group, PEFR% increased significantly. Conclusions : This study supports a role for AF-365 in maintenance of pulmonary function and quality of life, especially in persistent symptomatic asthmatics.

Effects of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta in Neurotrauma: Three Cases

  • Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is widely performed as an adjunct to resuscitation or bridge to definitive control of non-compressible torso hemorrhage in patients with hemorrhagic shock. It is a crucial adjunct for the maintenance of cerebral and coronary perfusion during resuscitation. However, in polytrauma patients with concomitant neurotrauma, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) or spinal cord injury, the physiological effects of REBOA are unclear. In this report on REBOA performed in a clinical setting for polytrauma patients with spinal cord injury or TBI, the physiological effects of REBOA in neurotrauma are reviewed.

초기 청소년의 스트레스와 폭력행동과의 관계에 대한 일상생활활동 경험의 중재 효과 (Moderating Effects of Daily Life Activity Experiences on the Relationship between Stress and Violent Behaviors in Early Adolescence)

  • This study investigated the relationship of daily life activity experiences to violent behaviors and their moderating effects on the relationship between stress and violent behaviors in early adolescence. A sample of 134 second year middle school students carried electronic watches for one week and provided reports on their objective activity situation and subjective states when signalled at random times. Stress was positively correlated with violent behaviors. Daily activity experiences were correlated with violent behaviors and moderated the relationship between stress and violent behaviors. More time spent in socializing and passive leisure, and negative emotional states during schoolwork and active leisure were correlated with higher violent behaviors. Lower motivational states during schoolwork were correlated with higher violent behaviors. Lower cognition of importance and attention states during schoolwork and higher cognition of importance and attention states during active leisure and maintenance activities were correlated with higher violent behaviors. Finally, the moderating effects of negative emotion during active leisure, motivation and attention states during schoolwork on the relationship of stress with violent behaviors were found among girls only.

철도차량의 고장모드 영향분석(FMEA) (A Study on FMEA for Railway Vehicle)

  • FMEA(Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) is a failure analysis method for the system to identify the potential failure modes, and their effects and causes to reduce or mitigate the critical effects of the system. FMEA for railway was introduced with reliability of railway system, and this was used for identifying and analysing the possible hazards qualitatively to meet the requirements in early stage of business. In general, the overall failure data of system could be managed from design stage by FMEA, and also the countermeasures to prevent many predicted failures could be established by identification of failure modes and assement of failure effects by FMEA. Using these advantages of FMEA, the effectiveness of reliability improvement could be expected if FMEA is applied continuously in operation stage. It is essential that railway vehicles are maintained with high level of safety and reliability not to happen any failures in operation. This paper is proposed the proper FMEA for maintenance of railway vehicles compared with existing FMEA.

Time-dependent effects on dynamic properties of cable-stayed bridges

  • Structural health monitoring systems are often installed on bridges to provide assessments of the need for structural maintenance and repair. Damage or deterioration may be detected by observation of changes in bridge characteristics evaluated from measured structural responses. However, construction materials such as concrete and steel cables exhibit certain time-dependent behaviour, which also results in changes in structural characteristics. If these are not accounted for properly, false alarms may arise. This paper proposes a systematic and efficient method to study the time-dependent effects on the dynamic properties of cable-stayed bridges. After establishing the finite element model of a cable-stayed bridge taking into account geometric nonlinearities and time-dependent behaviour, long-term time-dependent analysis is carried out by time integration. Then the dynamic properties of the bridge after a certain period can be obtained. The effects of time-dependent behaviour of construction materials on the dynamic properties of typical cable-stayed bridges are investigated in detail.
