하모니 검색 알고리즘을 이용한 피로균열의 포장설계 및 유지보수 시기 결정 (Analyzing the Fatigue Cracking and Maintenance of Asphalt Concrete Pavements, Based on Harmony Search Algorithm)

  • PURPOSES : This research describes how to predict the life cycles of fatigue cracking based on NCHRP Report 704 as well as modified harmony search (MHS) algorithm. METHODS : The fatigue cracking regression model of NCHRP Report 704 was used in order to calculate the ESAL (Equivalent Single Axle Load) numbers up to pavement failure, based on using material parameters, composite modulus, and surface pavement thickness. Furthermore, the MHS algorithm was implemented to find appropriate material parameters and other structural conditions given the number of ESALs, which is related to pavement service life. RESULTS : The case studies show that the material and structural parameters can be obtained, resulting in satisfying the failure endurance of asphalt concrete structure, given the number of ESALs. For example, the required ESALs such as one or two millions are targeted to satisfy the service performance of asphalt concrete pavements in this study. CONCLUSIONS : According to the case studies, It can be concluded that the MHS algorithm provides a good tool of optimization problems in terms of minimizing the difference between the required service cycles, which is a given value, and the calculated service cycles, which is obtained from the fatigue cracking regression model.

장지간 교량을 위한 PSC-I형 거더의 단면 설계변수 연구 (A Study on the Design Parameters of the PSC I-Type Girders for Long Span Bridges)

  • In order to resolve the problem of increasing traffic entailed by the economic development, road system is reorganization and new highways are built, and long span bridges over 40m are being constructed in environmental and aesthetic considerations. Most long span bridges that are currently being constructed are in general steel box girder and preflex girder bridges; however these types of breiges are less efficiency than PSC I-type girder bridges in terms of construction cost and maintenance. Therefore, in these study, structural efficiency of PSC I-type girders based on section parameters, concrete compressive strength and other design parameter is observed to develope new PSC I-type girder for long span bridges. As a results of analysis, most important design parameters that control the stress of the girder are found to be the top flange width and the height of girder. In this light, the relationship between the two variables is determined and cross-section details of the girder that most appropriates for the long span bridges are proposed. The use of high strength concrete appears to increase the general design span however the increase rate of the span from increasing concrete ultimate strength appears to be reduced depending on the span. Also, the optimal girder spacing is determined through the parameter studies of design span using the proposed girder.

250 km/h급 강체전차선로 설계파라미터 제시 (A Propose of Design Parameters for the Max. Speed of 250 km/h of Overhead Rigid Conductor System)

  • Overhead Line is divided by two systems which are OCS (Overhead Catenary Line) and R-Bar (Overhead Rigid Conductor system). R-Bar has an advantage of maintenance and economic aspect comparing with OCS. R-Bar in Korea has developed for the max. speed of 120km/h, but it is evaluated up to the max. speed of 250 km/h in Europe. There are lots of mountains and underground sections in korea, it is really necessary to develop the R-Bar for a high-speed line. In the study, design parameters for the max. speed of 250 km/h of R-Bar was proposed. A bracket space, stiffness, and especially an installation tolerance of contact wire height at a bracket were considered as a parameter, and a dynamic behavior between a contact wire and pantograph was predicted by evaluated FEM simulation tool. The installation tolerance and bracket space are more important for the high-speed system. The proposed parameters was decided very conservative. Because the aerodynamic characteristics of a pantograph in tunnel is more severe than an open route and the simulation tool is not considered the such kind of aerodynamic characteristics.

  • Underwater robotic vehicles(URVs) are used for various work assignments such as pipe-lining, inspection, data collection, drill support, hydrography mapping, construction, maintenance and repairing of undersea equipment, etc. As the use of such vehicles increases the development of vehicles having greater autonomy becomes highly desirable. The vehicle control system is one of the most critic vehicle subsystems to increase autonomy of the vehicle. The vehicle dynamics is nonlinear and time-varying. Hydrodynamic coefficients are often difficult to accurately estimate. It was also observed by experiments that the effect of electrically powered thruster dynamics on the vehicle become significant at low speed or stationkeeping. The conventional linear controller with fixed gains based on the simplified vehicle dynamics, such as PID, may not be able to handle these properties and result in poor performance. Therefore, it is desirable to have a control system with the capability of learning and adapting to the changes in the vehicle dynamics and operating parameters and providing desired performance. This paper presents an adaptive and learning control system which estimates a new set of parameters defined as combinations of unknown bounded constants of system parameter matrices, rather than system parameters. The control system is described with the proof of stability and the effect of unmodeled thruster dynamics on a single thruster vehicle system is also investigated.

강체전차선로 고속화를 위한 설계파라미터 민감도 분석 연구 (A Study on a Sensitivity Analysis of Design Parameters for the Speed-up of Overhead Rigid Conductor System)

  • R-Bar (Overhead Rigid Conductor system) has been lately used for the speed of over 200km/h in Europe, while it has been developed and used for the max. speed of 120km/h in Korea. Because R-Bar has advantages of reduction of tunnel cross sectional area and maintenance, its development for more high-speed is urgent in Korea having many mountain area. Therefore a sensitivity analysis of design parameters for the speed-up of R-Bar has performed in this study. For the analysis, we have developed a program for the prediction of dynamic characteristics between a pantograph and R-Bar. The program was evaluated with the actual test result and a current collection performance according to the parameters such as a distance between brackets, a stiffness of bracket and of R-Bar rail was predicted with the program.

  • The article considers the possibilities of increasing the accuracy of estimates of the parameters of the trajectory of the target with the provision of a given probability of stable support of the air object, in particular, during its maneuver. The aim of the work is to develop a filtration algorithm that provides a given probability of stable tracking of the air object by determining the regular components of filtration errors, in particular, when maneuvering the air object, and their compensation with appropriate correction of filter parameters and estimates of air object trajectory parameters.

Multi-variate Empirical Mode Decomposition (MEMD) for ambient modal identification of RC road bridge

  • In this paper, an adaptive MEMD based modal identification technique for linear time-invariant systems is proposed employing multiple vibration measurements. Traditional empirical mode decomposition (EMD) suffers from mode-mixing during sifting operations to identify intrinsic mode functions (IMF). MEMD performs better in this context as it considers multi-channel data and projects them into a n-dimensional hypercube to evaluate the IMFs. Using this technique, modal parameters of the structural system are identified. It is observed that MEMD has superior performance compared to its traditional counterpart. However, it still suffers from mild mode-mixing in higher modes where the energy contents are low. To avoid this problem, an adaptive filtering scheme is proposed to decompose the interfering modes. The Proposed modified scheme is then applied to vibrations of a reinforced concrete road bridge. Results presented in this study show that the proposed MEMD based approach coupled with the filtering technique can effectively identify the parameters of the dominant modes present in the structural response with a significant level of accuracy.

Pixel-based crack image segmentation in steel structures using atrous separable convolution neural network

  • In this study, the impact of assigned pixel labels on the accuracy of crack image identification of steel structures is examined by using an atrous separable convolution neural network (ASCNN). Firstly, images containing fatigue cracks collected from steel structures are classified into four datasets by assigning different pixel labels based on image features. Secondly, the DeepLab v3+ algorithm is used to determine optimal parameters of the ASCNN model by maximizing the average mean-intersection-over-union (mIoU) metric of the datasets. Thirdly, the ASCNN model is trained for various image sizes and hyper-parameters, such as the learning rule, learning rate, and epoch. The optimal parameters of the ASCNN model are determined based on the average mIoU metric. Finally, the trained ASCNN model is evaluated by using 10% untrained images. The result shows that the ASCNN model can segment cracks and other objects in the captured images with an average mIoU of 0.716.

Study to the Effect of Involutional Blepharoptosis Surgery Using Objective and Subjective Parameters

  • Background We investigate the effect of involutional blepharoptosis (IB) surgery based on dry eye symptoms by analysis using objective and subjective measures. Methods We recorded various parameters from patients that underwent levator advancement surgery for IB, totaling 125 eyes (total 65 patients, 5 unilateral, 60 bilateral). Subjective assessment comprised a questionnaire on dry eye-related quality of life score (DEQS), a summary score calculated from DEQS, and six-grade evaluation, the patient's own measure of eye comfort. Objective assessment comprised marginal-reflex distance-1 (MRD-1), measurement of tear film breakup time, and superficial keratopathy (SPK) existence by slit lamp microscope. Results Subjective assessments showed that IB patients had improvement of dry eye symptoms and eye comfort when surgery increased MRD-1. On the other hand, objective assessments showed that the presence of SPK is suspected when the postoperative MRD-1 level is 3 mm or higher. Conclusion IB surgery must not only increase MRD-1 value, but also to perform maintenance of the appropriate ocular surface condition. From our parameters, we suggest postoperative MRD-1 value should be maintained at < 3 mm to safe and effective of IB surgery.

광물찌꺼기 적치장 유지관리를 위한 모니터링 방안 연구 (Study of Monitoring Methods for Maintenance Management of Tailings Dams)

  • 본 연구는 환경유해시설인 광물찌꺼기 적치장의 효과적 유지관리를 위한 모니터링 방안을 수립하기 위해 수행하였다. 광물찌꺼기 적치장 유지관리를 위한 모니터링은 세분된 점검항목 및 평가항목의 선정을 통해 상세한 조사가 필요하며, 조사결과를 효과적으로 활용하기 위하여 불량정도 및 그 진행성 여부에 대한 평가가 필요하다. 따라서 모니터링 항목을 옹벽구조물(콘크리트 옹벽, 석축, 돌망태) 및 일반시설물(차수층, 복토층, 사면, 광물찌꺼기, 우수배제시설, 침출수, 식생)로 점검항목을 세분하고, 각 항목별 모니터링 결과에 대한 상태평가를 수행하여 등급 및 점수화를 통해 체계적인 유지관리가 될 수 있도록 모니터링 개선안을 제안하였다. 개선안에 따른 현장 적용성 평가 결과, 기존 모니터링에 비해 최대 16건(우수배제시설)의 하자 발생 건수가 추가로 확인되는 등 기존 모니터링에 비해 세부적인 평가가 가능한 것으로 확인되었으며, 등급에 따른 광물찌꺼기 적치장별 종합점수는 금장광산이 89.3점으로 가장 양호하고 거풍광산이 22.2점, 화천광산이 27.8점으로 가장 불량한 것으로 확인되었다. 이와 같이 개선안을 적용할 경우, 보다 상세한 모니터링을 수행할 수 있고 각각의 항목에 대한 정량적인 평가가 가능하다. 이러한 정량적 평가는 향후 광물찌꺼기 적치장의 보수 우선순위를 결정하고 중점관리항목 선정, 유지보수 계획수립에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.
