  • Performance predictions of the propulsion system were conducted for a 900㎏ class Canard Rotor/Wing vehicle. The main components of the propulsion system are turbojet engine, exhaust ducts and nozzles. The internal flow of the duct was considered as one-dimensional, compressible and viscous flow. Adequate governing equations including centrifugal force effect were applied to the analysis of the duct flows. Results such as available power, available thrust, engine throttle, mass flow rates, rotor RPM and cruise nozzle area were presented for rotary-wing mode and transition mode.

  • In order to understand dynamic characteristics of centrifugal compressor supported foil bearing, of which normal operating speed is about 20,000 ${\sim}$ 50,000 rpm, the rotor whirl is measured using gap sensors. Not only critical speeds of rotor system but also stability of rotor whirl, which are main concerns of the turbo compressor system, are measured using gap sensors by varying the rotating speed the rotor. The stiffness characteristics of bearing system is shown to be almost invariant according to speed variation by the measurement of eccentricity. In addition, from the directional power spectral density function of the measured vibration signal, the isotropy stiffness characteristics of foil bearing system is discussed.

  • In this paper, rotor design modification of a novel proposed machine termed the Axial Flux Doubly Fed Reluctance Machine (AF-BDFRM) is studied. The main potential advantage of AF-BDFRM is that it has larger torque and power density compared to radial flux-BDFRM. However, with the general rotor pole shape, this machine output back EMF has high THD % and high cogging torque. This paper studies the rotor design modification in the proposed AF-BDFRM to reduce the THD % in inducedd back EMF and cogging torque. Also the transient 3D finite element analysis (FEA) optimization of initial design is presented.

  • The cutting process of cage motor rotor require high precision and good roughness, the surface roughness fo cutting face is very important factor with effect on the magnetic flux density of cage motor rotor. The paper describes a cause of decrease in the cutting force and roughness on low temperature cooling tool by means of analysis on the mechanism of force system at cutting condition and experimental findings. The main results as compared with the room temperature cutting are as follow : 1) The cutting resistance decreased due to low temperature cooling tool. 2) The surface roughness decreased due to low temperature cooling tool. 3) The low temperature cooling tool effected machinability of the cutting direction in machined surface. 4) The low temperature cooling decreased burr of corner in feed direction.

  • Unsteady nature of a tip leakage vortex in an axial flow fan operating at a design and off-design operating conditions has been investigated by measuring the velocity fluctuation in a blade passage with a rotating hotwire probe sensor. Two hot-wire probe sensors rotating with the fan rotor were also introduced to obtain the cross-correlation coefficient between the two sensors located in the vortical flow as well as the fluctuating velocity. The results show that the vortical flow structure near the rotor tip can be clearly observed at the quasi-orthogonal planes to a tip leakage vortex. The leakage vortex is enlarged as the flow rate is decreased, thus resulting in the high blockage to main flow. The spectral peaks due to the fluctuating velocity near the rotor tip are mainly observed in the reverse flow region at higher flow rates than the peak pressure operating condition. However, no peak frequency presents near the rotor tip for near stall condition.

  • This paper proposed new techniques of rotor position detection for Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). This technique is very simple and easy to find out rotor position. The main idea uses the impulse responses which have different values between aligned and unaligned. In order to obtain the rotor position, the Impulse applied to the unenergized phases and their responses are analized to control the speed of SRM without shaft sensor, Experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • This paper describes some research works of computer-aided design of blanking and piercing progressive die for stator and rotor parts. An approach to the system is based on knowledge based rules. The deveolped system is composed of six modules such as main program, input and shape treatment, production feasibility check, strip layout, die layout and drawing edit module. Using this system, design parameters ( geometric shapes, die and punch dimensions and dimensions of tool elements) are determined and output is gen- erated in graphic from. Knowledges for tool design are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blkanking companies. The developed system provides powerful capabilities for process planning and die design of stator and rotor parts.

  • The Rotor Stress Indicator is an integrated system of hardware and program components which has been designed to read an assortment of turbine temperature and speed input devices, perform an analysis of the temperature induced stresses and output pertinent temperature and stress information to guide the turbine operator during turbine prewarming, start-ups, load changes, and shut-downs. The purpose of the RSI is to provide guidance to the plant operator during startup, shutdown, loading, and unloading of the turbine. Since the stresses are a function of the temperature changes to which the turbine is exposed, the RSI also provides guidance for operation of the boiler main steam and reheat steam temperatures as they affect the rotor stresses. This may permit more efficient overall boiler turbine start-ups. In this paper, new rotor stress analysis algorithm for RSI is introduced and compared with present system which has been used in thermal power plant.

  • Design optimization of a transonic compressor rotor (NASA rotor 37) using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis has been carried out in this work. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was used in the flow analysis. Two design variables were selected to optimize the stacking line of the blade, and mass flow was used as a design variable, as well, to obtain new design point at peak efficiency. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, adiabatic efficiency was successfully improved, and new design mass flow that is appropriate to an improved blade was obtained. Also, it is found that the design process provides reliable design of a turbomachinery blade with reasonable computing time.
