Analysis of AC losses in HTS coils by temperature variations

  • We analyzed the temperature dependency of the AC losses in high temperature superconducting (HTS) coils. In the case of a short sample of an HTS tape, the magnetization loss at 4.2 K could be higher than the one at 77 K for a same transport current. It happens when the perpendicular magnetic field is above a certain magnitude. The AC loss characteristics of solenoidal coils have been analyzed at the temperatures of 65 K and 77 K. They were categorized by the aspect ratios. The operating current of a solenoid was normally set about 70 % of the critical current. An HTS solenoid with the same operating current of 77 K causes larger AC losses at 65 K in the most cases of the HTS solenoids. We also analyzed the AC loss characteristics due to the temperature variations for three types of superconducting magnetic energy storages. Two of them were solenoidal types and the other was toroidal type. The results showed the tendency for the coils to have higher AC losses at lower temperature with the same operating currents and scenarios.

  • Generally, the high Tc superconductor(HTS) doesn't generate any loss in DC condition, but generate considerable loss in AC condition. Until now AC loss in superconductor has been researched on measuring method of short sample by using electrical method and magnetization method. But it is not easy to estimate AC loss in high class magnet system with results of measuring AC Joss in short sample. In this paper, we carry out research on measuring method by using calorimetric method used in measuring AC loss in high class magnet system. We make the inductive and non-inductive superconducting magnet and measure the generated AC loss, then we compare the measured results with the calculated results using Norris equation. This measuring method of AC loss using calorimetric method can measure not only AC loss in superconducting magnet but losses in conducting, radiant and low temperature. Consequently it is thought that efficient design and fabrication of superconducting magnet system will be possible by means of AC loss measurement method using calorimetric method.

Effect of Crystallization Treatment on the Magnetic Properties of Amorphous Strips Based on Co-Fe-Ni-B-Si-Cr Containing Nitrogen

  • Co-Fe-Ni-B-Si-Cr based amorphous strips containing nitrogen were manufactured via melt spinning, and then devitrified by crystallization treatment at the various annealing temperatures of $300^{\circ}C{\sim}540^{\circ}C$ for up to 30 minutes in an inert gas $(N_2)$ atmosphere. The microstructures were examined by using XRD and TEM and the magnetic properties were measured by using VSM and B-H meter. Among the alloys, the amorphous ribbons of $Co_{72.6}Fe_{9.8}Ni_{5.5}B_{2.4}Si_{7.1}Cr_{2.6}$ containing 121 ppm of nitrogen showed relatively high saturation magnetization. The alloy ribbons crystallized at $540^{\circ}C$ showed that the grain size of $Co_{72.6}Fe_{9.8}Ni_{5.5}B_{2.4}Si_{7.1}Cr_{2.6}$ alloy containing 121 ppm of nitrogen was about f nm, which exhibited paramagnetic behavior. The formation of nano-grain structure was attributed to the finely dispersed Fe4N particles and the solid-solutionized nitrogen atoms in the matrix. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the nano-grain structure of 5nm in size could reduce the core loss within the normally applied magnetic field of 300A/m at 10kHz.

고투자율, 고포화자화 FeZrBAg 연자성 박막의 자기적 특성 (Magnetic Properties of FeZrBAg Soft Magnetic Thin Films with High Permeability and High Magnetization)

  • 고투자율 및 고포화자화 특성을 동시에 만족하는 새로운 연자성 박막을 개발하기 위해 Fe-Zr-B계 조성에 Fe원소와 비고용 원소인 Ag를 첨가시킨 Fe86.7Zr3.3B4Ag6 비정질 박막을 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링법으로 제조한 후 일축 자장중에서 1시간 동안 진공 열처리를 한 후 fan을 이용하여 냉각하여 특성을 조사하였다. Fe86.7Zr3.3B4Ag6 박막을 40$0^{\circ}C$에서 열처리한 후 1.7T의 높은 포화자화와 1 Oe의 낮은 보자력으로 인해 50 MHz에서 투자율이 7,800(0.2 mOe)으로 우수한 연자기 특성을 나타내었으며, 1 MHz에서 손실이 1.4 W/cc(B=0.1T)로 매우 낮았다. 이러한 고주파 연자기 특성은 Ag 첨가에 의해 비정질 기지에 미세한 bcc $\alpha$-Fe cluster가 균일하게 형성되었기 때문이라 생각된다.

  • In this experimentation, we investigated the characteristics of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite. Ferroxplana was prepared by flux method at low temperature. The crystallization, magnetic properties and particle morphology of the obtained ferroxplana powder were investigated by using XRD, VSM and SEM. The particle size of ferroxplana powder was 2∼4$\mu\textrm{m}$ at the ratio of R=26, The coercivity and saturation magnetization of ferroxplana powder increased slightly with increase of temperature, The magnetic loss was the main factor of electromagnetic wave absorption of ferroxplana powder and silicone rubber composite, The maximum reflection loss of composite was about -l5dB below 4GHz.

  • In this study, we have fabricated amorphous FeZrBAg thin films with low core losses by using DC magnetron sputtering method. After deposition, rotational field annealing (RFA) method was performed in the dc field of 1.5 kOe. The amorphous FeZrBAg thin films produced by annealing at 35$0^{\circ}C$ was founded to have high permeability of 8680 at 100 MHz, 0.2 mOe, low coercivity of 0.86 Oe high magnetization of 1.5 T and very low core loss of 1.3 W/cc at 1 MHz, 0.IT respectively. Excellent soft magnetic properties in a amorphous FeZrBAg thin films in the present study are presumably the homogeneous formation of very fine bcc $\alpha$-Fe crystalline with the 8.2 nm in an amorphous FeZrBAg thin film matrix.

Structure and Magnetic Characterization of Core-Shell Fe@ZrO2 Nanoparticles Synthesized by Sol-Gel Process

  • Highly crystalline, uniform Fe nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and encapsulated in zirconia shell using sol-gel process. Two different approaches have been employed for the coating of Fe nanoparticle with zirconia. The thickness of zirconia shell can be readily controlled by altering molar ratio of Fe nanoparticle core to zirconia precursor in the first case where as reaction time was found to be most effective parameter to controlled the shell thickness in the second method. The structure and magnetic properties of the ZrO2-coated Fe nanoparticles were studied. TEM and HRTEM images show a typical core/shell structure in which spherical α-iron crystal sized of ~25 nm is surrounded by amorphous ZrO2 coating layer. TGA study showed an evidence of weight loss of less than 2% over the temperature range of 50-500 °C. The nanoparticles are basically in ferromagnetic state and their magnetic properties depend strongly on annealing temperature. The thermal treatment carried out in as-prepared sample resulted in reduction of coercivity and an increase in saturation magnetization. X-ray diffraction experiments on the samples after annealing at 400-600 °C indicate that the size of the Fe@ZrO2 particles is increased slightly with increasing annealing temperature, indicating the ZrO2 coating layer is effective to interrupt growing of iron particle according to heat treatment.

  • The ferrimagnetic glass-ceramics in the system Fe2O3-CaO-SiO2 for hyperthermia were investigated. Glasses could be prepared up to the content of 40 wt% of Fe2O3 and below the weight ratio of 1.0 of CaO/SiO2. The maximum saturation magnetization and the maximum coercive force were 29.85 emu/g and 340.1 Oe respectively, for a glass 40Fe2O3.20CaO.40SiO2 composition heat-treated at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. And for a glass 40Fe2O3.30CaO.30SiO2 composition the maximum saturation magnetization and the maximum coercive force were 18.47 emu/g and 374.4 Oe heat-treated at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ and 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours respectively. The maximum hysteresis loss was 1,726.3 cal/g for a glass 40Fe2O3.20CaO.40SiO2 composition heat-treated at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours. It was found that the ferrimagnetic Fe2O3.CaO.SiO2 glass-ceramics was little injurious to human body as results of biocompatibility test and biotoxicity test.

  • To apply HTS to AC devices, it is necessary that study theoretically and experimentally to analyze the AC losses. It should be investigated the theoretical mechanisms precede the actual experiments. Because the AC losses cause some complicated troubles in AC machines, we can design the machines properly. In this study, firstly we analyze the basic cause of AC losses by investigating the several loss factors, secondly measure the AC losses of HTS by using Magnetization. Technique and this results show that AC losses of HTS is tenuous than those of general materials used in power system. Consequently we can compare the actual results with the theoretical results. And we find that AC losses of HTS are related to the amplitude of external magnetic field and the frequency. Through this study, we find that it is possible to apply the results by Magnetization. Technique to the AC power system, to the design of AC machine, to design of HTS proper to the foretold AC losses.

  • This study was conducte dto fabricate 2GHz circulator using Ca,Sn substituted UIG(yttrium iron garnet)ceramics. When the electric, magnetic and microwave properties were measured in Ca, Sn substituted YIG, the measured perimittivity and perfmeability in microwave frequencies were 16.25, 0.8964. For $Y_{2.4}$C $a_{0.3}$A $n_{0.3}$F $e_{3.5}$A $l_{1.5}$ $O_{12}$ garnet ceramics sintered at 1400.deg. C, the ferrimagnetic resonance line width (.DELTA.H) at 10GHz was 53 Oe and saturation magnetization was 375G. The strip-line circulator was simulated with 3-D FEM (finite element method) software and designed at the center frequency of 2GHz. The fabricated strip-line junction circulator using above YIG ceramics had insertion loss of 1.271dB, return loss of 23.843dB, isolation of 21.751dB at the center frequency 1.855GHz.z.z.z.z.z.z.
