A study on path tracking control of fine manipulator based on magnetic levitation (자기부상식 미동 매니퓰레이터의 경로 추종 제어에 관한 연구)

  • A robust controller for a 6 DOF magnetically levitated fine manipulator is presented. The proposed controller consists of following two parts : a model reference controller (MRC) and a H$_{\infty}$ controller (HIC). First, the MRC stabilizes the motion of the manipulator. Then, the motion of the manipulator follows that of the reference model. Second, the HIC minimizes errors generated from the MRC due to noise and disturbance since the HIC is a kind of robust controller. The experiments of position control and tracking control are carried out by use of the proposed controller under the conditions of free disturbances and forced disturbances. Also, the experiments using PID controller are carried out under the same conditions. The results from above two controllers are compared to investigate the control performances. As the results, it is observed that the proposed controller has similar position accuracy but better tracking performances comparing to the PID controller as well as good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller. In conclusion, it is verified that the proposed controller has the simple control structure, the good tracking performances and good disturbance rejection effect due to the robust characteristics of the controller..

Experimental Evaluation of Levitation and Imbalance Compensation for the Magnetic Bearing System Using Discrete Time Q-Parameterization Control (이산시간 Q 매개변수화 제어를 이용한 자기축수 시스템에 대한 부상과 불평형보정의 실험적 평가)

  • In this paper we propose a levitation and imbalance compensation controller design methodology of magnetic bearing system. In order to achieve levitation and elimination of unbalance vibartion in some operation speed we use the discrete-time Q-parameterization control. When rotor speed p = 0 there are no rotor unbalance, with frequency equals to the rotational speed. So in order to make levitatiom we choose the Q-parameterization controller free parameter Q such that the controller has poles on the unit circle at z = 1. However, when rotor speed p $\neq$ 0 there exist sinusoidal disturbance forces, with frequency equals to the rotational speed. So in order to achieve asymptotic rejection of these disturbance forces, the Q-parameterization controller free parameter Q is chosen such that the controller has poles on the unit circle at z = $exp^{ipTs}$ for a certain speed of rotation p ( $T_s$ is the sampling period). First, we introduce the experimental setup employed in this research. Second, we give a mathematical model for the magnetic bearing in difference equation form. Third, we explain the proposed discrete-time Q-parameterization controller design methodology. The controller free parameter Q is assumed to be a proper stable transfer function. Fourth, we show that the controller free parameter which satisfies the design objectives can be obtained by simply solving a set of linear equations rather than solving a complicated optimization problem. Finally, several simulation and experimental results are obtained to evaluate the proposed controller. The results obtained show the effectiveness of the proposed controller in eliminating the unbalance vibrations at the design speed of rotation.

  • In the paper, we propose a design method for the logistics transportation system using magnetic levitation that has a good characteristics without mechanical friction, noise and dust. The proposed transportation system consists of a levitation control system and a propulsion control system. Magnetic levitation system is an electromagnetic suspension system in which electromagnet generates magnetic attractive force and the attractive force pulls the rail. We design a PID controller for the current control of electromagnets. We use linear induction motors for propulsion of the proposed logistics transportation system and adapt the space vector PWM method for the propulsion control system. The proposed transportation system using magnetic levitation is verified performances through levitation and propulsion experiments.

  • A self-bearing is an electric machine that achieves both rotational actuation and magnetic levitation using a single magnetic structure. To be able to stably levitate the rotor in a self-bearing, one needs to have an inverse of the force-current model. However, the force-current model in a self-bearing motor is typically not square. Furthermore, the elements of the matrix vary with respect to the rotational angle, resulting in singularities of the pseudo-inverse at various angles. In this paper, we propose a new force-current model that eliminates the singularities by adding a constraint in coil currents. This constraint eliminates the flux density in the stator core so that the saturation problem in the previous study is avoided. By implementing this force-current model, we are able to implement a levitation controller for a toroidally-wound self-bearing BLDC motor. The model inversion and levitation are validated experimentally.

  • This paper presents the scheme that improves control responsibility and stability of the controlled-PM electromagnet levitation system with zero Power controller. A magnetically levitation system is used widely because friction can almost be disappeared. But it is difficult to control due to restraint of controllable area and nonlinear characteristics of electromagnetic force, which is proportioned to a square of the magnetic flux density and is in inverse proportion to a square of the air-gap. So, the application of observer theory in which the levitation system is considered to be a linear dynamic model has resulted in omitting the time dependence on mover's speed. Consequently, the performance of the observer is quite poor during transients. Therefore, this paper proposed the controlled-PM electro-magnetic levitation control method in which the variable load is estimated by using the reduced order extended luenverger observer and its system is controlled at a new zero power equilibrium air-gap position. It is also verified that the proposed control method improve the control performance through simulation and experiment.

  • A magnetic levitation system with hybrid magnets, which is composed of permanent magnets and electromagnets, consumes less power than the conventional attraction type system. A parallel complementary controller on the lift controller is proposed to reduce the sensitivity for parameter variation and force disturbance. Simulation and experiment show that the lift system has robustness to force disturbance.

  • In this paper, the characteristics analysis results of the levitation controller of magnetically-levitated vehicle are presented. To get a good closed-loop system, the observer and controller must be designed to meet the control performance and ride quality requirements. So the transfer functions of the observer filter are described and analysed by using the relative and absolute signal concepts.

  • This paper presents a gam optimization method using genetic algorithm(GA) for a magnetic levitation(Maglev) controller. GA uses the integral of square error(ISE) as performance index. The plant dynamics are described and modelled by mathematical equations. Also, the system apparatus for the Maglev system are described. Using the derived model, to optimize the feedback gains of conventional state feedback controller(SFC), GA is simulated with SIMULINK model. finally, using the optimized feedback gains, SFC is applied to the Maglev system. From the results, we can see that GA can give a solution for the better control performance for the Maglev system.

  • In this paper we propose a controller which has the capability of disturbance measurement calibration for Cds array sensors in a magnetic levitation system. Steady state error due to environment light condition or external disturbance is corrected constantly. The correction is made by the sensors to measure the ball position of the system without additional deployment of sensors.

  • Five expensive sensors are necessary to control a magnetic bearing system. The sensor price rate of magnetic bearing system is high. So it is necessary that cheap and good sensor is developed. The optical fiber displacement sensor is adaptive to satisfy this condition. We can design magnetically suspended spindle based on static characteristic of optical fiber displacement sensor developed. The controller can be designed by decoupled feedback PD. Therefore, it is simpler than any other controller comparatively.
