Multiferroic Property and Crystal Structural Transition of BiFeO3-SrTiO3 Ceramics

  • Solid solutions of the (1-x)$BiFeO_3-xSrTiO_3$ ceramic system (x = 0~0.4) are explored here in attempts to obtain multiferroic properties in these systems. The polarization-electric field hysteresis, magnetization-magnetic field curves, and dielectric properties are also characterized. This solid-solution system shows a crystal structural transition from a noncentrosymmetric (R3c) structure to a centrosymmetric (Pm-3m) structure at 0.3 < x < 0.4. The solid solution ceramic shows unsaturated M-H behavior and low remanent magnetization over the composition region of 0.1 ${\leq}$ x ${\leq}$ 0.3. The $0.7BiFeO_3-0.3SrTiO_3$ system shows the largest value of $M_s$ at 0.17 emu/g and the smallest value of $H_c$ at 1.06 kOe. The P-E hysteresis curves were not saturated under an electric field as high as E = 70 kV/cm. This system is considered to have multiferroic characteristics in the composition range of 0.1 ${\leq}$ x ${\leq}$ 0.3.

Features and Statistics on the Magnetic Field Waveforms Radiated by Intracloud Discharges (운방전에 의해서 방사된 자계 파형의 특징과 통계)

  • This paper presents some features and statistics of electromagnetic pulses radiated from intracloud lightning discharges. The LabVIEW based-measurement system of time-dependent electromagnetic fields was constructed. The frequency bandwidth of the measuring system ranged from 300[Hz] to 1[MHz], and the response sensitivity was 2.78(mV/nT). The resolution and the maximum recording length of the data acquisition system were 12(bits) and 100[ms], respectively. In the electromagnetic pulses radiated from intracloud discharges, a pronounced bipolar pulse appeared with one or more fast pulses superimposed on the initial front part of the bipolar pulse. The mean duration of intracloud discharges was $1.05{\pm}0.32[ms]$, and an average of about 8 outburst pulses appeared for a period.

  • This study proposes an structure that fixes the shielding device to two parts of the board by its two arranged clips. Said structure evenly distributes its loading/unloading load of the board and maintains the flatness of soldering area of the board. The structure of this study comprises a base part fixed to a printed circuit board and a clip part fixing a side wall of a shield can to the board, wherein the clip part is constituted with two clips fixable to two part of the shield can. Also, the structure of this study comprises a dented groove in order to easily solder the base part of clips and the printed circuit board. A mechanism is established and a design parameter was determined by a structure analysis and a vibration mode analysis. A single purpose machine for the production of the product was developed, the final workpiece was produced and the measuring-data and the computered-data was compared and reviewed.

Development of Bypass Unit for Ship Area Network Based on Legacy-line Communication (무배선 통신을 위한 선박 네트워크용 바이패스 장치 개발)

  • In this paper, we reported the bypass unit for ship area networks in order to detour the communication failure regions and poor communication links. The device was composed of three parts of circuits for power cut-off, protection, and coupling transformer. Since the coupling transformer exerts a dominant influence on the performance of the by-pass unit, we have tried to find the optimal magnetic core materials and its dimensions. The prototype was passed through the performance test of insertion loss, temperature, and vibration characteristics. The insertion loss was around -2 dB in the range of 90 kHz ~ 30 MHz and the average communication speed was 59.2 Mbps in the laboratory. A pilot communication test using the developed tool was conducted in the training ship of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University. As a results of experiment, we showed that the wired communication among the heterogeneous-links in the ship area networks are possible by the bypass unit and also a high speed communication services are available in ~ Mbps by using a power-line.

Design Improvement for Abnormal Display of Fuel Indicator Mounted on the Korean Utility Helicopter (한국형 기동헬기 연료량 지시계 이상시현 현상 설계개선)

  • Aircraft fuel indicator is a device to indicate the amount of fuel remained during flight, where accurate and consistent operation of the indicator should be maintained. Previously the Korean Utility Helicopter fuel indicator sporadically displayed abnormal sign by "8888" during flight, jeopardizing flight safety. Inappropriate EMI/EMC performance was detected during trouble shooting process. The cause of the abnormal display was found to be resulted from unstable power induced by electro-magnetic disturbance and CAN communication error. The aircraft fuel indicator design was improved and the design compatibility was verified to avoid abnormal display.

  • Induction motor torque is the reactive power is needed which corresponds to the exciting current to generate the magnetic flux as the product of current and flux. For use in the method of supplying the required reactive power to the induction motor power factor correction apparatus using a lot of ways to supply in place of the power supply side, when using a power factor compensation device can reduce the apparent power, the power factor can be improved. However, the distance to the emergency generator transformers or motors from the motor capacity is smaller but short and difficult to maneuver the theory and practice of the operating characteristics of the starting characteristics of the motor used a lot of large industrial plants were measured and analyzed. Therefore, this study investigated the motor starting Analysis and interpretation for the relationship with the large motor starting torque and speed during motor starting.

Real-time Image Scanning System for Detecting Tunnel Cracks Using Linescan Cameras

  • In this paper, real-time image scanning system using linescan cameras is designed. The system is specially designed to diagnose and analyse the conditions of tunnels such as crack widths through the captured images. The system consists of two major parts, the image acquisition system and the image merging system. To save scanned image data into storage media in real-time, the image acquisition system has been designed with two different control and management modules. The control modules are in charge of controlling the hardware device and the management modules handle system resources so that the scanned images are safely saved to the magnetic storage devices. The system can be mounted to various kinds of vehicles. After taking images, the image merging system generates extended images by combining saved images. Several tests are conducted in laboratory as well as in the field. In the laboratory simulation, both systems are tested several times and upgraded. In the field-testing, the image acquisition system is mounted to a specially designed vehicle and images of the interior surface of the tunnel are captured. The system is successfully tested in a real tunnel with a vehicle at the speed of 20 km/h. The captured images of the tunnel condition including cracks are vivid enough for an expert to diagnose the state of the tunnel using images instead of seeing through his/her eyes.

  • Recently, as the piezoelectric transformer technology develops, piezoelectric transformer may become a variable alternative to magnetic transformers in various applications. Because it was have to favorable characteristics such as electromagnetic-noise free, compact size, higher efficiency, and superior power density, linkage flux, noiseless, etc. its resonance frequency was used to output waveform of a sine wave. In this paper, the switching mode power supply of about 87.2[KHz] is driven by the multilayer thickness vibration mode piezoelectric transformer and the DC to DC converter drive circuit using an electrical equivalent circuit is proposed. Also, it was possible to drive power source device of the high-luminance LED by propose circuits.

  • Ultrasonic irradiation in a solution during the chemical reaction may accelerate the rate of the reaction and the crystallization at low temperature. We have synthesized nanometer sized zinc ferrite particles using chemical co-precipitation technique through a sonochemical method with surfactant such as oleic acid. The thermal behaviour of the zinc ferrite was determined by the thermoanalytical techniques (TGA-DSC). Powder X-ray diffraction measurements show that the samples have the spinel structure. Magnetic properties measurement were performed using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer.

Implementation of the Azimuth Correction Device using Astronomical Observation (천측을 이용한 방위 보정 장치의 구현)

  • In this paper, we proposed a method to reduce the error of compass by combining the ceiling technique used in the past with modern IT technology. We combined an encoder and the Azimuth Circle for applying an algorithm. The algorithm is able to calculate the true north by using astronomical observation. Finally, we implemented the embedded system possible to indicate various situations and perform calculations. As a result, it isn't only able to calculate the true north with an error of about $0.2^{\circ}$ but also takes less than 5 seconds. Originally, using astronomical observation requires more than 5minutes. So it is analyzed as convenient by solving the problem of taking lots of time. Especially, we present the tolerance less than $0.5^{\circ}$ by the analysis of the existing gyrocompass and the bearing standard of IMO. In conclusion, we clearly confirm that the results of this paper are possible to reduce the error of various compasses in a real world.
