The electric field-induced modifications of magnetic anisotropy in CoFeB/MgO systems are studied using X-ray resonant magnetic scattering and magneto-optical Kerr effect. Voltage dependent changes of the magnetic anisotropy of -12.7 fJ/Vm and -8.32 fJ/Vm are observed for Ta/CoFeB/MgO and Hf/CoFeB/MgO systems, respectively. This implies that the interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is reduced (enhanced) when electron density is increased (decreased). X-ray resonant magnetic scattering measurements reveal that the small in-plane magnetic component of the remanent state of CoFeB/MgO systems with weak magnetic anisotropy changes depending on the applied voltage leading to modification of the magnetic anisotropy at the CoFeB/MgO interface.
We find a metastable vortex state of the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy free layer in spin transfer torque magnetic tunneling junctions by using micromagnetic simulations. The metastable vortex state does not exist in a single layer, and it is only found in the trilayer structure with the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy polarizer layer. It is revealed that the physical origin is the non-uniform stray field from the polarizer layer.

Spin Transfer Torque (STT) is of great interest in data writing scheme for the Magneto-resistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) using Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ). Scalability for high density memory requires ferromagnetic electrodes having the perpendicular magnetic easy axis. We investigated CoZr as the ferromagnetic electrode. It is observed that interfacial magnetic anisotropy is preferred perpendicular to the plane with thickness dependence on the interfaces with Pt layer. The anisotropy energy (Ku) with thickness dependence shows a change of magnetic-easy-axis direction from perpendicular to in-plane around 1.2 nm of CoZr. The interfacial anisotropy (Ki) as the directly related parameters to switching and thermal stability, are estimated as $1.64erg/cm^2$ from CoZr/Pt multilayered system.
The magnetic anisotropy field plays an important role in spin-orbit-torque-induced magnetization dynamics with electric current injection. Here, we propose a magnetometric technique to measure the magnetic anisotropy field in nanostructured ferromagnetic thin films. This technique utilizes a magneto-optical Kerr effect microscope equipped with two-axis electromagnets. By measuring the out-of-plane hysteresis loops and then analyzing their saturated magnetization with respect to the in-plane magnetic field, the magnetic anisotropy field is uniquely quantified within the context of the Stoner-Wohlfarth theory. The present technique can be applied to small nanostructures, enabling in-situ determination of the magnetic anisotropy field of nanodevices.
FeN thin films were deposited by RF-reactive diode sputtering to investigate magnetic characteristics variation due to substrate tilt during the film deposition, and their magnetic properties were measured by VSM, SEM and AFM. When the substrate tilt pivot edges were parallel to the applied field, the magnetic anisotropy was increased When the substrate tilt pivot edges were perpendicular to the applied field, the easy magnetization axis became the hard magnetization axis, and the hard axis became the easy axis as the tilt angles were increased. The reason is believed to be due to the fact that the tilt induced shape magnetic anisotropy became larger than the field induced magnetic anisotropy by DC magnetic field as the crystal grains are enlongated along the substrate tilt pivot edges due to "oblique incidence anisotropy" commonly found in eveporated thin films.

Many electronic applications require magnetic materials with high permeability and frequency properties. We improve the magnetic permeability of soft magnetic powder by controlling the shape magnetic anisotropy of the powders and through the preparation of amorphous nanoparticles. For this purpose, the effect of the shape magnetic anisotropy of amorphous Fe-B-P nanoparticles is observed through a magnetic field and the frequency characteristics and permeability of these amorphous nanoparticles are observed. These characteristics are investigated by analyzing the composition of particles, crystal structure, microstructure, magnetic properties, and permeability of particles. The composition, crystal structure, and microstructure of the particles are analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry-, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and focused ion beam analysis. The saturation magnetization and permeability are measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer and an LCR meter, respectively. It is confirmed that the shape magnetic anisotropy of the particles influences the permeability. Finally, the permeability and frequency characteristics of the amorphous Fe-B-P nanoparticles are improved.

The amorphous Co-based magnetic films have a large saturation flux density, a low coercive force, and a zero magnetostriction constant. Therefore, they have been studied for application to magnetic recoding heads and micro magnetic devices. However, it was found that the magnetic anisotropy was changed for each film fabrication processes. In this study, we investigated how to control the anisotropy of sputtered amorphous $Co_{89}Nb{8.5}Zr{2.5}$ films. After deposition, the rotational field annealing ant the uniaxial field annealing were performed under the magnetic field of 1.5 kOe. the annealing was done at the temperature range from 400 to $600^{\circ}C$ for one hour. As-deposited amorphous $Co_{89}Nb{8.5}Zr{2.5}$ thin film had saturation magnetization ($4\piM_5$) of 0.8 T, coercive force($_IH_C$) of 1.5 Oe, and anisotropy field($H_k$) of 11 Oe. The amorphous $Co_{89}Nb{8.5}Zr{2.5}$ thin films annealed by rotational field annealing at $500^{\circ}C$ for one hour was found to be isotropy, and $4\piM_5$ of 0.9 T was obtained from these films, Also, the magnetic anisotropy of as-deposited films could be controlled by uniaxial field annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ for one hour. Anisotropy field($H_k$) of 17 Oe and $4\piM_5$ of 1.0 T were obtained by this method.

Using ab initio calculations, we study the MgO(001) and Fe/MgO(001) surface phases and the effects of interface structure on the Fe/MgO magnetic anisotropy. The surface phase diagrams of MgO(001) and Fe/MgO(001) show that the most stable surface structures are either defect-free surface or the surfaces with oxygen vacancies in c($2{\times}1$) periodicity for the systems. By the formations of the oxygen vacancy rows on MgO(001) surface, the in-plane magnetic anisotropy energy of Fe overlayer is reduced while the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy is increased from 0.1 to 0.5 meV per Fe atom.
The role of magnetic anisotropy of the antiferromagnetic layer on the magnetization process of exchange coupled polycrystalline ferromagnetidantiferromagnetic bilayers is discussed. In order to elucidate the magnetic torque response of Ni-Fe/Mn-Ir bilayers, the single spin ensemble model is newly introduced, taking into account the two-dimensionally random distribution of the magnetic anisotropy axes of the antiferromagnetic grains. The mechanism of the reversible inducement of the exchange anisotropy along desirable directions by field cooling procedure is successfully explained with the new model. Unidirectional anisotropy constant, J$k$, of polycrystalline Ni-Fe/Mn-Ir and Co-Fe/Mn-Ir bilayers is investigated as functions of the chemical composition of both the ferromagnetic layer and the antiferromagnetic layer. The effects of microstructure and surface modification of the antiferromagnetic layer on JK are also discussed. As a notable result, an extra large value of J$k$, which exceeds 0.5 erg/cm$^2$, is obtained for $Co_{70}Fe_{30}Mn_{75}Ir_{25}$ bilayer with the ultra-thin (50${\AA}$∼100${\AA}$) Mn-Ir layer. The exchange anisotropy of $Co_{70}Fe_{30}$ 40 ${\AA}/Mn_{75}Ir_{25}$ 100 ${\AA}$ bilayer is stable for thermal annealing up to $400{^{\circ}C}$, which is sufficiently high for the application of spin valve magnetoresistive devices.
Recently, non-destructive stress measurement method using magnetic anisotropy sensor has been applied to the construction site such as steel bridges and steel pipes. In addition, steel rib used in the tunnel construction site was found to be possible to measure the stress by non-destructive method. In this study, steel loading experiments using magnetic anisotropy sensor developed in Japan and strain gauges were conducted to derive stress sensitivity curve for domestic steel SS400. Also, additional steel loading experiments and numerical analysis were performed for evaluation of applicability for non-destructive stress measurement method using magnetic anisotropy sensor. As a result of this study, stress sensitivity curves for domestic steel SS400 were derived using output voltage measured by magnetic anisotropy sensor and average of stress measured by strain gauges depending on the measurement location. And as a result of comparing additional steel loading experiments with the numerical analysis, error level of magnetic anisotropy sensor is around 20MPa. When considering the level of the yield stress(245MPa) of steel, in case of using magnetic anisotropy sensor in order to determine the stress status of steel, it has sufficient accuracy in engineering. Especially, magnetic anisotropy sensor can easily identify the current state of stress which considers residual stress at steel structure that stress measurement sensor is not installed, so we found that magnetic anisotropy sensor can be applied at maintenance of steel structure conveniently.
