A thermal barrier coating (TBC) has been widely applied to machine components working under high temperature as a thermal insulator owing to its critical financial and safety benefits to the industry. However, the nondestructive evaluation of TBC damage is not easy since sensing of the microscopic change that occurs on the TBC is required during an evaluation. We designed an eddy current probe for evaluating damage on a TBC based on the finite element method (FEM) and validated its performance through an experiment. An FEM analysis predicted the sensitivity of the probe, showing that impedance change increases as the TBC thermally degrades. In addition, the effect of the magnetic shield concentrating magnetic flux density was also observed. Finally, experimental validation showed good agreement with the simulation result.

Purpose : Within a clinically acceptable time frame, we obtained the high resolution MR images of the human brain, knee, foot and wrist from 3T whole-body MRI system which was equipped with the world first 37 active shield magnet. Materials and Methods : Spin echo (SE) and Fast Spin Echo (FSE) images were obtained from the human brain, knee, foot and wrist of normal subjects using a homemade birdcage and transverse electromagnetic (TEM) resonators operating in quadrature and tuned to 128 MHz. For acquisition of MR images of knee, foot and wrist, we employed a homemade saddle shaped RF coil. Topical common acquisition parameters were as follows: matrix=$512{\times}512$, field of view (FOV) =20 cm, slice thickness = 3 mm, number of excitations (NEX)=1. For T1-weighted MR images, we used TR = 500 ms, TE = 10 or 17.4 ms. For T2-weighted MR images, we used TR=4000 ms, TE = 108 ms. Results : Signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 3T system was measured 2.7 times greater than that of prevalent 1.5T system. MR images obtained from 3T system revealed numerous small venous structures throughout the image plane and provided reasonable delineation between gray and white matter. Conclusion The present results demonstrate that the MR images from 3T system could provide better diagnostic quali\ulcorner of resolution and sensitivity than those of 1.5T system. The elevated SNR observed in the 3T high field magnetic resonance imaging can be utilized to acquire images with a level of resolution approaching the microscopic structural level under in vivo conditions. These images represent a significant advance in our ability to examine small anatomical features with noninvasive imaging methods.
22.9kV 50MVA HTS power cable has been developed and tested by Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute and LS Cable Company and it was supported by a grant from Center for Applied Superconductivity Technology of the 21st Century Frontier R&D Program. In this paper, DC Ic of 100m HTS cable which is installed at Kochang testing station was measured and analyzed. A measurement technique of DC Ic used by resistance and inductance removal method is established. The HTS power cable is composed of 2 layers for transmission and 1 layer for shield. For the analysis of AC losses in an HTS power cable, 2-dimensional numerical calculation was carried out to define the magnetic field distribution. We calculated the magnetization losses in the HTS core of that cable from these fields. These calculated results are in accordance with those of experiment.

Several crucial issues are discussed in the design of cryogenic cooling system for high field magnets. This study is mainly motivated by our ongoing program to develop a 21 T Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometer (FT-ICR MS). The magnets of this system will be built horizontally to accomplish the requirement of user friendliness and reliability, and the replenishment of cryogen will not be necessary by a closed-loop cooling concept. The initial cool-down and safety are basically considered in this paper. The effects of the helium II volume and the gap distance of the weight load relief valve (or safety valve) on the cool-down time and temperature rising during an off-normal state are discussed. The total amount of cryogenic cooling loads and the required helium flow rate during cool-down are also estimated by a relevant heat transfer analysis. The temperatures of cryogen-free radiation shield are finally determined from the refrigeration power of a cryocooler and the total cryogenic loads.

To investigate the 3-bond connectivity of human brain metabolites by scalar coupling interaction through 2D-correlation spectroscopy (COSY) techniques using high field NMR spectroscopy. All NMR experiments were performed at 298K on Unity Inova 500 or 600 (Varian Inc.) equipped with a triple resonance probe head with z-shield gradient. Human brain metabolites were prepared with 10% $D_2O$. Two dimensional 2D COSY spectra were acquired with 4096 complex data points in $t_2$ and 128 or 256 increments in $t_1$ dimension. The spectral width was 9615.4 Hz and solvent suppression was achieved using presaturation using low power irradiation of the water resonance during 2s of relaxation delay. NMR data were processed using VNMRJ (Varian Instrument) software and all the chemical shifts were referenced to the methyl resonance of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA) peak at 2.0 ppm. Total 10 metabolites such as N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), creatine (Cr), choline (Cho), glutamine (Gln), glutamate (Glu), myo-inositol (Ins), lactate (Lac), taurine (Tau), ${\gamma}$-aminobutyricacid (GABA), alanine (Ala) were included for major target metabolites. Symmetrical 2D-COSY spectra were successfully acquired. Total 14 COSY cross peaks were observed even though there were parallel/orthogonal noisy peaks induced by water suppression. Except for Cr, all of human brain metabolites produced COSY cross peaks. The spectra of NAA methyl proton at 2.02 ppm and Glu methylene proton ($CH_2(3)$) at 2.11 ppm and Gln methylene proton ($CH_2(3)$) at 2.14 ppm were overlapped in the similar resonance frequency between 2.00 ppm and 2.15 ppm. The present study demonstrated that in vitro 2D-COSY represented the 3-bond connectivity of human brain metabolites by scalar coupling interaction. This study could aid in better understanding the interactions between human brain metabolites in vivo 2D-COSY study. Also it would be helpful to determine the molecular stereochemistry in vivo by using two-dimensional MR spectroscopy.

For better evaluation of material thickness by using the reflection type pulsed eddy current method, various probe models are designed and their response signals, characteristics, and sensitivities to thickness variation are investigated by a numerical analysis method. Since the sensor needs to detect magnetic fields from eddy currents induced in a test material, not from the exciter coil, two types of models that are shielded by the combination of copper and ferrite and only by ferrite are considered. By studying response signals from these shielded probe models, the peak value and the zero crossing time are selected as useful signal features for the evaluation of material thickness. Investigation of sensitivities of these two features shows that the sensitivity of peak value is more useful than that of zero crossing time and that the probe shielded only by ferrite gives much better sensitivity to thickness variation.
In this paper, we propose the methods not only to eliminate ELF(Extremely Low Frequency) EMI(Electro-Magnetic Interference) noice for extending recognition distance, but also to utilize the the PLN for detecting starting instance of a hand gesture using electric potential sensor. First, we measure strength of electric field generated in the smart devices such as TV and phone, and minimize EMI through efficient arrangement of the sensors. Meanwhile, we utilize the 60 Hz PLN to extract the starting point of hand gesture. Thereafter, we eliminate the PLN generated in the smart device and circuit of sensors. And then, we shield the sensors from an electric noise generated from devices. Finally, through analyzing the frequency components according to the gesture of target, we use the low pass filter and the Kalman filter for elimination of remaining electric noise. We analyze and evaluate the proposed ELF-band EMI eliminating method for non-contact remote sensing of the EPS(Electric Potential Sensor). Combined with a detecting technique of gesture starting point, the recognition distance for gestures has been proven to be extended to more than 3m, which is critical for real application.

The EMI shielding effectiveness of shielding layers thickness was analyzed when the low conductivity shielding layers was placed in the near field of the noise source. A spiral antenna with broadband characteristics was used as the noise source, and graphite was selected as the low conductivity shielding material. Two spiral antennas were constructed to analyze the transmission coefficient between two antennas, and the distances between the transmitting and receiving antennas were 5 cm and 10 cm. The thickness of the shielding layers was changed from 1 um to 200 um. The frequency was changed from 100 MHz to 6 GHz to obtain a maximum SE(Shielding Effectiveness) of 70 dB. In this simulation, electronic shielding was used due to the nature of graphite, which is a shielding film material. Based on these results, we will study how to improve the shielding performance by implementing magnetic shielding in the future.
A radiographer is a job in charge of diagnostic imaging equipment, and must contribute to the promotion of public health by suggesting an appropriate level of work. To this end, we intend to present an appropriate level of work through evaluation of human harm according to work, statistical evaluation through questionnaires, and domestic and international trends. In the case of human harm evaluation, considering radiation exposure, 42.6%, shield work, 69.7%, and in the case of magnetic resonance imaging, the maximum length of stay in the examination room should be adjusted to 15 minutes and not exceed 30 times. According to the survey statistics, it was confirmed that the physical and mental burden increased due to the high workload and difficulty compared to working hours. Based on domestic and international trends, it is necessary to adjust the examination standards for domestic radiographers to 36.8% to promote national health through qualitative improvement of radiological examinations. something to do.
For veterinary imaging diagnosis, we obtained MR images of the canine brain, spine, kidney and pelvis from 3T MRI system which was equipped with the world first 3T active shield magnet. Spin echo (SE) and fast Spin Echo (FSE) images were obtained from the canine brain, spine, kidney and pelvis of normal and sick dogs using a homemade birdcage and transverse electromagnetic (TEM) resonators operating in quadrature and tuned to 128 MHz. In addition, we employed a homemade saddle shaped RF coil. Typical common acquisition parameters were as follows: matrix=512$\times$512, field of view (FOV)=20cm, slice thickness=3 w, number of excitations (NEX)=1. For T1-weighted MR images, we used TR=500 ms, TE=10 or 17.4 ms. For T2-weighted MR images, we used TR=4000 ms, TE=108 ms. Signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 3T system was measured 2.7 times greater than that of prevalent 1.57 system. The high resolution images acquired in this study represent more than a 4-fold increase in in-plane resolution relative to conventional images obtained with a 20 cm field of view and a 5 mm slice thickness. MR images obtained from 3T system revealed numerous small venous structures throughout the image plane and provided reasonable delineation between gray and white matter The present results demonstrate that the MR images from 3T system could provide better diagnostic quality of resolution and sensitivity than those of 1.5T system. The elevated SNR observed in the 3T high field magnetic resonance imaging can be utilized to acquire images with a level of resolution approaching the microscopic structural level under in vivo conditions. These images represent a significant advance in our ability to examine small anatomical features with noninvasive imaging methods. Moreover, MRI technique could begin to apply for veterinary medicine in Korea.
