No matter how intense magnetic flux it contains, a coronal magnetic structure has little free magnetic energy when a composing magnetic field is close to a potential field, or current-free field where no volume electric current flows. What kind of electric current system is developed is therefore a key to evaluating the activity of a coronal magnetic structure. Since the corona is a highly conductive medium, a coronal electric current tends to survive without being dissipated, so the free magnetic energy provided by a coronal electric current is normally hard to release in the corona. This work aims at clarifying how a coronal electric current system is structurally developed into a system responsible for producing a flare. Toward this end, we perform diffusive MHD simulations for the emergence of a magnetic flux tube with different twist applied to it, and go through the process of structuring a coronal electric current in a twisted flux tube emerging to form a coronal magnetic structure. Interestingly, when a strongly twisted flux tube emerges, there spontaneously forms a structure inside the flux tube, where a coronal electric current changes flow pattern from field-aligned dominant to cross-field dominant. We demonstrate that this structure plays a key role in releasing free magnetic energy via rapid dissipation of a coronal electric current, thereby producing a flare.
This paper deals with the displacement estimation of magnetically suspended simple 1 DOF(degree of freedom) system without the displacement sensor. Inherently electro-magnet for control has two natural feedback loops. One is the transfer function which represents the dependance of the amount of the magnetic flux on the gap displace-ments. The other is the transfer function expressing the properties that the back electromotive force is derived from the time derivative of the magnetic flux. Through these two feedback loops, information about the gap length can be represented by the magnetic flux and the coil current. This means that the gap length can be detected from these two states variables of the electromagnet without a displacements sensor(self-sensing). The displacement can be estimated with the magnetic flux subtracted by the coil current. In this paper we use a balance beam in order to deal with the displacement sensorless estimation of the magnetic bearing system. For the stable estimation of the gap displacements by using the method of self-sensing simple PD controller is used. We first show the mathematical model of the balance beam, and then we show the effectiveness of the current and flux feedback for making stable estimation of the gap displacements for the balance beam. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the current and flux feedback for good estimation of the displacement without using displacement sensor.
This paper presents the magnetic flux distributions of a ferrofluid seal at the sealing gap between the pole pieces and the rotating shaft. The optimized shape of pole pieces has been determined by using the computer simulations. The computed results indicate that the sloped pole piece of 27$^{\circ}$ shows good flux distributions compared with that of the conventional flat pole pieces and may reduce frictional heats due to a reduced surface contact areas of magnetic fluids.

The vector magnetic property is defined as the relationship between the magnetic field strength vector H and the magnetic flux density vector B. It is very important for the development of high efficiency and the high-density electric machines. The electrical steel sheet for the machine core shows the remarkable vector behavior by the high magnetic flux density level. In this paper, the magnetic characteristic analysis using E&S2 model is introduced as the useful technology for the design and development.
Solenoid type magnetic actuator is the device, which could translate the electromagnetic energy to mechanical force. The force generated by magnetic flux, could be calculated by Maxwell stress tensor method. Maxwell stress tensor method is influenced by the magnetic flux path. Thus, magnetic force could be improved by modification of the iron case, which is the route of the magnetic flux. Modified design is obtained by parameter optimization using by Response surface methodology.
The magnetic field generated in the iron core, which is required for the magnetic field to link each coil of the flux-lock type reactor, affects the fault current limiting characteristics of the flux-lock type high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL). By applying numerical analysis for equivalent circuit of flux-lock type SFCL, the magnetic field induced in the iron core including currents of each coil was investigated. Through the analysis of magnetic field, we have analyzed that the magnetic field linked the 3rd coil, which is wound in the iron core, prevents the saturation of the iron core, but decreases the impedance of the flux-lock type SFCL.
In this study, a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) having two magnetic paths was proposed, and its current limiting characteristics were analyzed. For the SFCL to effectively perform the current limiting operation, it must be designed considering the magnetic saturation of the E-I core. Further, the influence of the magnetic flux on its peak current limiting characteristics was investigated. In addition, the magnetic flux curves of the SFCL obtained from the fault current limiting experiments were analyzed, and the subtractive polarity winding case was observed to not only further reduce the saturation potential of the core but also perform the peak current limiting functions well when compared with the additive polarity winding case.
Magnetohydrostatic equilibria, in which the Lorentz force, the plasma pressure force and the gravitational force balance out to zero, are widely adopted as the zeroth order states of many astrophysical plasma structures. A magnetic flux-current surface is a surface, in which both magnetic field lines and current lines lie. We for the first time derive the necessary and sufficient condition for existence of magnetic flux-current surfaces in magnetohydrostatic equilibria. It is also shown that the existence of flux-current surfaces is a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for the ratio of gravity-aligned components of current density and magnetic field to be constant along each field line. However, its necessary and sufficient condition is found to be very restrictive. This finding gives a significant constraint in modeling solar coronal magnetic fields as force-free fields using photospheric magnetic field observations.
Automated magnetic abrasive polishing which can be applied after machining of the mold on a machine tool without unloading is very effective for finishing a complicated injection mold surface. This study aims to realize one step polishing of free form surface with the same machine tool. For this purpose, magnetic flux density according to the change of curvature radii was simulated for selecting polishing conditions and experimental verification was performed with a complicated mold of aluminum alloy. As a result, it was seen by the simulation that the magnetic flux density at a gradual curvature of the mold was higher than at a steep curvature and the higher magnetic flux density produced the better surface roughness in the experimentation. The deviation for the surface roughness of the mold decreased on the whole and the uniform mold surface was obtained after the automated magnetic abrasive polishing.
In magnetic flux measurement, output voltage drift of electronic integrator is an essential problem. In this work, we have developed a new kind of Miller type integrator using a sample and hold amplifier. Input bias current was measured and this value was hold in the sample and hold amplifier, after that input bias current of Miller integrator was compensated automatically using the value which holds in the sample and hold amplifier. Developed flux-meter shows the drift of flux-meter are smaller than 10$^{-5}$ Wb/min in full scale of 10$^{-2}$, and we could also measure multi-channel magnetic flux simultaneously.
