A Reversed Field Pinch(RFP) Plasma automatically forms the reversed field configuration in a stable state by the self-reversal phenomenon. But this process of formation of the reversed field configuration has a problem that instabilities occur. In order to form a RFP configuration in a stable state by removing instabilities, this experimental study attempts to restrain Toroidal magnetic fields and supplement Toroidal flux by employing high frequency rotating fields. As a result, the reversed magnetic field configuration is stably formed in a short period because high frequency rotating fields can deflect poloidal currents and produce magnetic fields in the Toroidal direction.
Magnetohydrostatic equilibria, in which the Lorentz force, the plasma pressure force and the gravitational force balance out to zero, are widely adopted as the zeroth order states of many astrophysical plasma structures. A magnetic flux-current surface is a surface, in which both magnetic field lines and current lines lie. We for the first time derive the necessary and sufficient condition for existence of magnetic flux-current surfaces in magnetohydrostatic equilibria. It is also shown that the existence of flux-current surfaces is a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for the ratio of gravity-aligned components of current density and magnetic field to be constant along each field line. However, its necessary and sufficient condition is found to be very restrictive. This finding gives a significant constraint in modeling solar coronal magnetic fields as force-free fields using photospheric magnetic field observations.

Demagnetization for a tube sample which was made of a galvanized steel sheet was performed by applying a magnetic field with a decrement to remove the remanent magnetization of the material. An orthogonal fluxgate magnetic field sensor was used to measure a magnetic field created from a ferromagnetic material. To evaluate the remanent magnetization, the measured magnetic fields were separated into two magnetic field components by the remnant magnetization and the induced one. The horizontal and the vertical bias fields should be controlled separately during demagnetization to remove the horizontal and the vertical components of the remanent magnetization of the tube sample.
Several investigators have presented the effects of external magnetic fields on the dose distributions for clinical electron and photon beams. We focus the low energy electron beam with more lateral scatter In this study we calculated the beam profiles for an clinical electron beam of 6 MeV with longitudinal magnetic fields of 0.5 T-3.0 T using a Monte Carlo code. The principle of dose enhancements in the penumbra region is to deflect the laterally scattered electrons from its initial direction by the skewness of the laterally scattered electrons along the direction of magnetic field lines due to Lorentz force under longitudinal magnetic field. To discuss the dose enhancement effect on the penumbra area from the calculated results, we introduced the simple term of penumbra reduction ratio (PRR), which is defined as the percentage difference between the penumbra with and without magnetic field at the same depth. We found that the average PRR are 33%, and 49% over the depths of 1.5 cm, 2.0 cm, and 2.4 cm for the magnetic fields of 2.0 T and 3.0 T respectively. For the case of 0.5 T and 1.0 T the effects of magnetic filed were not observed significantly. In order to obtain the dose enhancement effects by the external magnetic field, we think that its strength should be more than 2 T approximately. We expect that the PRR would be saturated to 50-60% with magnetic fields of 3 T-5 T As a result of these calculations we found that the penumbra widths can be reduced with increased magnetic fields. This Penumbra reduction is explained as a result of electron lateral spread outside the geometrical edges of the beam in a longitudinal magnetic field. This means that the electron therapy benefits from the external magnetic fields.
Electro-magnetic fields and static magnetic fields generated from diverse home/environmental sources have been reported that these could make harmful effects on the human health such as suppression of immunity and tumorigenesis. However, the mechanisms for the biologic effects of electro-magnetic fields or static magnetic fields are still remained unclear. In this study, we examined the in vitro effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) on murine peritoneal macrophages. The cells were exposed in vitro to SMF of $150{\sim}250$ or $350{\sim}450$ G in 5% $CO_2$-incubator. The phagocytic activity of murine peritoneal macrophages was inhibited under exposure to SMF. In order to provide a more complete picture of molecular mechanism for the biological effect of SMF, we compared the levels of total proteins from macrophages with or without exposure to SMF using quantitative proteomic analysis. Proteins which were differentially expressed in macrophages exposed to SMF compared with non-exposed macrophages, were identified. Among them, the levels of trypsinogen 16, lactose-binding lectin Mac-2, galactoside-binding lectin, actin-like (Put. ${\beta}-actin$, vimentin) and electron transferring flavoprotein beta polypeptide were enhanced under exposure to SMF. These results suggest that SMF can affect the phagocytic activity of macrophages via diverse mechanisms.

In spite of increasing public concern about the human exposure to electric and magnetic fields(EMFs), there is little information about the EMF levels in the vicinity of power facilities and of home appliances. To provide such information, a nationwide survey for EMFs near overhead transmission lines has been conducted. The median values of the electric fields and magnetic fields of 153 transmission lines were 0.47 kV/m and 11.6 mG, respectively. The maximum values were 3.16 kV/m and 125 mG. These were low values in comparison with any EMF guidelines or standards of advanced contries. Measurements of the magnetic fields of typical home appliances and daily human exposure records have been also conducted. These magnetic field values were comparable to those of the transmission lines.

All the plants on earth live under an electric and magnetic field because the earth is a magnet and there is an electric field between the charged cloud and the ground. It has been reported that electromagnetic fields influence both the activation of ions and polarization of dipoles in living cells of seeds and plants, though the mechanism of these actions is still poorly understood. In this paper, the effects of the electric and magnetic fields and exposure times to the germination of several vegetable seeds and its early growth have been investigated experimentally to find out the feasibility of a plant factory for mass production of clean and unpolluted vegetables. The germination rate and the growth rate of some seeds under the fields exposed were analysed and compared with those of unexposed ones. It is found that the germination rate and its early growth rate of exposed seeds under the fields were accelerated about 1.1-1.4 and 1.7-2.2 times in maximum compared with those of unexposed ones. But, however, an inhibitory effect on germination and plant early growth were shown in the case of the higher electric and magnetic fields.
This paper presents a study on characteristics and safety for human body in ELF electric and magnetic fields using statistical method. The magnetic fields from a power line can be computed given a knowledge of the currents, voltage and geometry of the line. In this paper, a statistical method for predicting the magnetic fields given the inherent indetermination of the currents is presented. But the electric field is calculated given a knowledge of the voltage and geometry of the line. The effect of unexpected fluctuations in current is modeled by the Monte Carlo simulation. The suggested method is applied to the 345kV and 765kV transmission line system, the result shows that the maximum electric and magnetic field intensity is 6.8627kV/m and 284mG in 345kV system, 2. 5590kV/m and 35mG in 765kV system, respectively.

The origin of magnetic fields in the universe remains an outstanding problem in cosmology. We propose that these fields are produced by shocks during the large-scale structure formation. We discuss the mechanism of the field generation via the counter-streaming (Weibel) instability. We also show that these Weibel-generated fields are long-lived and weakly coupled to dissipation. Subsequent field amplification by the intra-cluster turbulence may also take place, thus maintaining the magnetic energy density close to equipartition.

The transport loss of a Bi-2223 tape exposed to external magnetic fields was investigated. The results show that the transport loss is independent on voltage lead arrangements in case the magnetization loss is compensated. A serous increase of the transport loss due to external AC magnetic field is observed. The loss is described well by dynamic resistance loss in relatively high fields, but another mechanism than the dynamic resistance must be responsible for the increase of the loss in low fields. The transport loss is also dependent strongly on the orientation of the external fields.
