  • This paper presents the analysis, design and performance of an axial-flux permanent magnet(AFPM) motor with a core-less stator. Axial-flux permanent magnet motors prove to be the best candidate for application in electric vehicles(EVs) as direct drive wheel motors, as in comparison with conventional motors. They allow designs with higher compactness lightness and efficiency. The paper discusses design and construction of a prototype motor, and reports experimental results achieved from laboratory tests.

  • This paper presents a S-FES(Superconducting magnetic bearing Flywheel Energy Storage System) for the purpose of replacing battery used to store the energy. Especially, the design elements of FES, such as the bearing, wheel material, and power converter, etc., is described. The design and manufacturing techniques of the controllable power converter are proposed to generate the sinusoidal output current in the high speed operation and to get the constant DC voltage in the regeneration mode. The cylindrical permanent magnet synchronous motor with halbach array of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnet which is the high coercivity material is used as the driver of FES. The proposed S-FES system shows the stable rotation characteristics at high speed range about 10,000 rpm. To verify the validity of proposed system, the comparative study with the conventional ball bearing system is proceeded and it is well confirmed with the result of the lower friction loss of S-FES system.

  • This paper deals with the design and the characteristic analysis of a coreless axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor. Because a direct-drive wheel motor is easily derived from it, the AFPM motor is very suitable for application in an electric scooter. Compared to a conventional motor of the same size and weight, the AFPM motor is proven to have more power and torque per unit weight. In this paper, an AFPM coreless motor with a double-sided rotor disk equipped with Nd-Fe-B rare earth magnets is designed and a prototype of the motor is manufactured, which will be properly applied for the low-speed, and high-torque direct drive required for the electric scooter. The manufactured prototype of the motor has a rating of 300W, 510rpm, 5.6Nm, and 85% efficiency.

Durable and Sustainable Strap Type Electromagnetic Harvester for Tire Pressure Monitoring System

  • A new concept design of electromagnetic energy harvester is proposed for powering a tire pressure monitoring sensor (TPMS). The thin coil strap is attached on the circumferential surface of a rim and a permanent magnet is placed on the brake caliper system. When the wheel rotates, the relative motion between the magnet and the coil generates electrical energy by electromagnetic induction. The generated energy is stored in a storage unit (rechargeable battery, capacitor) and used for TPMS operation and wireless signal transmission. Innovative layered design of the strap is provided for maximizing energy generation. Finite Element Method (FEM) and experiment results on the proposed design are compared to validate the proposed design; further, the method for design improvement is discussed. The proposed design is excellent in terms of durability and sustainability because it utilizes the everlasting rotary motion throughout the vehicle life and does not require material deformation.

  • The viscosity drive method by the wheel which is widely used in the conventional railway systems needs a large friction force between the wheel and the guide-rail, which brings on a thrust force for a quick acceleration and a high-speed travelling. In addition, the viscosity drive method needs an increase of the vehicle weight for a large friction force. However, a maglev train is possible to be driven by the electro-magnet instead of the wheel, which produces a levitation and thrust force without any contact. In general, low-speed maglev train uses a linear induction motor(LIM) for propulsion that is operated under 300[km/h] due to the power-collecting and end-effect problems of LIM. In case of high-speed maglev train, a linear synchronous motor(LSM) is more suitable than LIM because of a high-efficiency and high-output properties. LSM has a driving principle as same as a conventional rotary synchronous motor(RSM), and the torque of RSM becomes the thrust force of LSM. A conventional LSM has relatively large air-gap compared with a conventional RSM. So, it must be achieved a design that is considered normal force by finite-asymmetric structure, end-effect on the entry and exit part, and support structure of a moving part. Therefore, in this research, authors accomplish a conceptualizing and basic design of a small-scaled LSM, and characteristics analysis using FEM.

  • This paper deals with the design and characteristic analysis of a coreless an axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor. Recently, issues regarding environment and the diversification of dependence in oil are watched with keen interest. In this theses, through the simulation of AFPM for low and high torque which has stator in the center and two rotors each side, understand its specialty, with this, make a prototype motor and design drive which can enhance the motors stability in low speed. Especially, specialty of motors torque power output will be mainly talked and based on this, possibility of application in EVs will be inspected by the theoretical study and the test.

  • A vortical axis flywheel system was conceptualized, which uses a hybrid superconductor bearing set to carry the wheel part load. The multiple designs of magnetic bearing and superconductor bearing were analyzed by using conventional numerical magnetostatic analysis method The best medels were selected among four different types of Permanent magnet bearings for upper bearing and two types of superconductor bearing for lower bearing, respectively These results were discussed in regard of application to the flywheel system with a Passive hybrid magnetic bearing set.

A Evaluation of Emergency Braking Performance for Electro Mechanical Brake using Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (매입형 영구자석 동기전동기를 적용한 전기기계식 제동장치의 비상제동 성능평가)

  • This study examined the clamping force control method and the braking performance test results of an electromechanical brake (EMB) using braking test equipment. Most of the studies related to EMBs have been carried out in the automotive field, dealing mainly with the static test results for various control methods. On the other hand, this study performed a dynamic performance evaluation. The three-phase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) was applied to drive the actuator of the EMB, and the analysis was verified by JMAG(Ver. 18.0), which is finite element method (FEM) software. The current control, speed control, and position control were used for clamping force control of the EMB, and the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control was applied to the current controller for efficient control. The EMB's emergency braking deceleration performance was tested in the same way as conventional pneumatic brake systems when the wheel of a train rotates at 110 km/h, 230 km/h, and 300 km/h. The emergency braking time, with the wheel stopped completely at the maximum rotational speed, was approximately 73 seconds. The similarity of the braking time and deceleration pattern was verified through a comparison with the performance test results of the pneumatic brake system applied to the next generation high-speed railway vehicle (HEMU-430X).

  • Electric Vehicle (EV) can be categorized by the driving method into in-wheel and in-line types. In-wheel type EV does not have transmission shaft, differential gear and other parts that are used in conventional cars, which simplifies and lightens the structure resulting in higher efficiency. In this paper, design method for in-wheel motor for automobiles using Parameter Map is proposed, and motor with continuous power of 5 kW is designed, built and its performance is verified. To decide the capacity of the in-wheel motor that meets the automobile's requirement, Vehicle Dynamic Simulation considering the total mass of vehicle, gear efficiency, effective radius of tire, slope ratio and others is performed. Through this step, the motor's capacity is decided and initial design to determine the motor shape and size is performed. Next, the motor parameters that meet the requirement is determined using parametric design that uses parametric map. After the motor parameters are decided using parametric map, optimal design to improve THD of back EMF, cogging torque, torque ripple and other factors is performed. The final design was built, and performance analysis and verification of the proposed method is conducted by performing load test.

뫼스바우어 분광학과 $\delta$ M plot을 사용한 Nanocomposite magnet의 자기특성 규명 연구

  • Nano 결정립 N $d_2$F $e_{l4}$B+F $e_3$B 복합상 자성 리본은 Extractive melt spinner의 wheel speed를 달리하여 제조하였다. 초기 조성은 N $d_4$F $e_{77.5}$ $B_{18.5}$이고, 이후 제조한 자성 리본의 자기특성은 VSM 및 AGM(Alternating gradient magnetometer)으로 측정하였다. wheel speed 1500rpm, $650^{\circ}C$에서 10분간 열처리한 자성 리본에서 $B_{r}$ = 11.73 kG, $_{i}$ $H_{c}$ = 3.082 kOe, (BH)$_{max}$ = 12.28 MGOe의 자기특성이 나타났다. 이러한 자기특성 원인 규명을 위해 $\delta$M plot과 뫼스바우어 분광학을 사용하였다. $\delta$M plot을 통해 exchange coupling은 초미세립 복합상의 잔류자속밀도에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 뫼스바우어 분광학을 통해 경자성상(N $d_2$F $e_{l4}$B)과 연자성상 F $e_3$B의 부피분율비가 7:3 정도일 때 가장 최적의 자기특성을 발현하였다. 이 경우에 초미세립 복합상의 상호작용력이 가장 크게 발현하는 것으로 판단된다.단된다..된다..된다..
