  • This paper presents a characteristic analysis method of a permanent magnet type transverse flux linear motor (TFLM) with spiral cores. The spiral cores are used as the mover cores in order to make 3-dimensional (3-D) magnetic flux paths at the TFLM which have 3-D magnetic flux flows. The 3-D Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method is used to analyse the magnetic characteristics of the machine, and an imaginary part, 'flux barrier,' is introduced to consider the spiral core characteristic. Magnetic parameters such as flux, inductance, and thrust are calculated from the analysis results. The computed thrust forces are compared to measured values to confirm the accuracy of the analysis.

  • A magent console is critical element since its homogeneity is essential to the performance of a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) based sensor. Geometry and properties of magnet materials determine the magnetic flux density and homogeneity of the console. This study is carried out to develop a design scheme of the magnet console using ANSYS to reduce the design error of the magnet console compared . To enhance the performance of the magnet console, corner steel was proposed and validated by simulation and manufactured one. The corner steel increased the magnetic flux density (B) by about 1% and enhanced homogeneity by approximately 3 times. There was about 3% difference between simulated and measured B values.

  • In this paper, we study in magnetizing the NdFeB magnet which is inserted in a squirrel cage rotor. The inserted NdFeB magnet need much more magnetizing flux than that of ferrite magnet. Also the eddy current flowing in rotor bar disturbs the magnetizer in magnetizing the NdFeB magnet. The existing magnetizing yoke is designed by increasing the coil turn. But we recognize that only by increasing the coil turn it is impossible to make NdFeB magnet magnetized fully. Hence, in this paper we propose the method of increasing magnetizing flux by reducing the rotor bar area.

  • Lately, many approaches of speed sensorless control method for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) ha, been developed. This paper proposes a novel sensorless algorithm for speed estimation of IPMSM. First of all, proposes sensorless method estimates flux of rotor using foundational voltage equation of IPMSM and then estimates position and speed of rotor using Phase Locked Loop(PLL). Proposed sensorless algorithm demonstrated through simulation using Matlab simulink and experiment.

  • This paper presents an axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator with a high power-to-weight ratio, dedicated for small-scale gearless wind power generation plants. For this purpose, a specific design is necessary to meet the imposed requirements. In this paper the design technique for the specifications is presented. The aim of the paper is also to discuss some of the first obtained test results and the involved demagnetizing problem (i.e. short-circuit).

  • Currently, an interest in electric vehicles (EVs) exhibited by automakers, government agencies and customers make it as more attractive research. This is due to carbon dioxide emitted by conventional combustion engine that worsens the greenhouse effect nowadays. Since electric motors are the core of EVs, it is a pressing need for researchers to develop advanced electric motors. As one of the candidates, switched flux machine (SFM) is initiated in order to cope with the requirement. This paper proposes a new alternate circumferential and radial flux (AlCiRaF) of permanent magnet switched flux machines (PMSFM) for light weight electric vehicles. Firstly, AlCiRaF PMSFM is compared with the conventional PMSFM based on some design restrictions and specifications. Then the design refinements techniques are conducted by using deterministic optimization method in order to improve preliminary performance of machine. Finally the optimized machine design has achieved maximum torque and power of 47.43 Nm and 12.85 kW, respectively, slightly better than that of conventional PMSFM.

  • With the aid of genetic algorithm (GA), global optimization with multiple geometry parameters is feasible in the design of switched flux permanent magnet (SFPM) machines. To investigate the advantages of global optimization over individual optimization, which has been used extensively for the design of SFPM machines, a comparison between the two approaches is carried out for the case of fixed copper loss and volume. In the case of individual parameter optimization, the sequence in which the individual parameters are optimized is very important. In the global optimization a better design can always be achieved although the corresponding torque density is found to be only slightly better than that of individually optimized with correct design sequence. By using the obtained global optimization results, the performance in machines having two types of stator and rotor pole combinations, i.e. 12/10 and 12/14, are compared, and it is shown that higher torque is exhibited in the 12/14 SFPM machine. Finally, this paper also demonstrates that global optimization, with the restriction of equal pole width, magnet thickness and slot opening, can maximize the torque density without significantly sacrificing other performance, such as cogging torque and overload capability.

  • This report describes the analytical solution of back EMF for BLDC motor using numerical analysis of air gap flux density. The analysis of air gap flux density is the key to expect the performance of back EMF for the design of brushless motor. The numerical analysis and FEM analysis are performed to vary attachment of stator side or rotor side, radial flux magnetization or parallel flux magnetization, magnet arc angle in the condition of constant air gap. This results have more reliable data comparing with test result of the back EMF for 7 phase BLDC motor.

  • A novel topology for the magnet gear is proposed in this study. Differently from the existing methods, both sides of magnet array in this topology are used, resulting in increasing the efficiency of the mechanism. The closed magnetic path between the magnetic elements decreases the leakage flux, so the interlinking magnetic flux through the air-gap is focused and intensified. This paper discusses the dominant parameters of the proposed magnet gear influencing the resulting transmission torque. The parameters are designed from the sensitivity analysis using the commercial FEM analysis tool. And, the test setup for verifying the performance of the system is described.

  • For the magnetic field analysis or design, it is important to know the behavior of the magnetic field in an interesting space. Magnetic field mapping becomes a useful tool for the study of magnetic field. In this paper, a numerical way for mapping the magnetic field within the cylindrical center volume of magnet is presented, based on the solution of the Laplace's equation in the cylindrical coordinate system. The expression of the magnetic field can be obtained by the magnetic flux density, which measured in the mapped volume. According to the form of the expression, the measurement points are arranged with the parallel cylindrical line (PCL) method. As example, the magnetic flux density generated by an electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) magnet and a quadrupole magnet were mapped using the PCL method, respectively. The mapping results show the PCL arrangement method is feasible and convenience to map the magnetic field within a cylindrical center volume generated by the general magnet.
