Magnesium alloys are known to be hard-forming materials at room temperature owing to their material structure. This study analyzes the optimal temperature conditions of warm-forming and the forming process by using a high-pressure laminating test and FM analysis, respectively. The effect of temperature on the fatigue limit was examined from the collected specimens by analyzing the material properties after the fatigue test. The material formed at a temperature of $230^{\circ}C$ shows occasional defects, but the best forming quality was obtained at $270^{\circ}C$. The optimal temperature for the forming process was found to be $250^{\circ}C$ considering the material quality and thermal efficiency. The overall fatigue life of specimens decreases with an increase in the processing temperature. The fatigue limit of AZ31 formed at $250^{\circ}C$ was approximately 100 MPa after $10^6$ cycles.
Friction stir weldability of AZ31B Mg alloy was studied using microstructural observation and mechanical tests. Defect free joints was obtained under the condition of 2000rpm-100mm/min. In TMAZ, a lot of twin deformation were observed due to the mechanical effect of the FSW tool and thus relatively high hardness was obtained. In SZ, the twin deformation was disappeared by recovery and the hardness decreased because the. grain structure was coarsened by dynamic recrystallization and grain growth. The Al-Mn precipitates were observed throughout the joint regions. On the other hand, $$\beta$-Mg_{17}Al_{12}$ intermetallic compounds were not observed in either of the zone. The joint efficiency was about 80% and the impact value of the joint was almost equal to that of base metal.

Asymmetric rolling, where circumferential velocities of the upper and lower rolls differ, can be one method to change texture of magnesium alloy sheet by introducing shear deformation throughout the thickness of a sheet. In this study, the texture, microstructure and mechanical properties of AZ31 Mg sheets has been investigated during the symmetrical rolling procedure and the asymmetric rolling procedures of different roll speeds with different roll diameters. Texture of Mg alloy sheets were evaluated by using X-ray diffraction and ODFs were calculated using ADC method. The major texture of rolled specimens can be expressed by ND//(0001) fiber texture. The major fiber texture changed according to the rolling processes and such a slight difference of texture changes the formability of sheets. The mechanical properties were enhanced during asymmetrical rolling.
The initial strain, the applied stress exponent, the activation energy, and rupture time in AZ31 magnesium alloy have been measured in order to predict the deformation mechanism and rupture life of creep over the temperature range of 423-443K. Creep tests were carried out under constant applied stress and temperature, and the lever type tester and automatic temperature controller was used for it, respectively. The experimental results showed that the applied stress exponent was about 9.74, and the activation energy for creep, 113.6KJ/mol was less than that of the self diffusion of Mg alloy including aluminum. From the results, the mechanism for creep deformation seems to be controlled by cross slip at the temperature range of 423-443K. Also the higher the applied stress and temperature, the higher the initial strain. And the rupture time for creep decreased as quadratic function with increasing the initial strain in double logarithmic axis.

Magnesium alloy is expected to be widely used for mobile electronic appliances as well as automobile parts for its lightweight and EMI-shielding characteristics. In the present investigation, a Note-PC upper case made of magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet was developed by using the press forming technology at elevated temperature. Considering the press forming process and the formability of magnesium alloy sheet, the case shape and the press die was designed. The optimum forming condition was experimentally examined. Then the as-received magnesium alloy sheet was press-formed into the designed case shape under the optimum forming condition.

In recent years, Magnesium(Mg) and its alloys have become a center of special interest in the automotive industry. Due to their high specific mechanical properties, they offer a significant weight saving potential in modern vehicle constructions. Most Mg alloys show very good machinability and processability, and even the most complicated die casting parts can be easily produced. In this study, Microstructure, Vickers hardness and tensile tests were examined and performed for each specimen to verify effects of forming conditions. Also to verify upsettability and forming limit of the specimen at room temperature and elevated temperature, upsetting experiments were performed. For comparison, experiments at elevated temperature were performed for various Mg alloy, such as AZ31, AZ91, and AM50. The experimental results were compared with those of CAE analysis to propose forming limit of Magnesium alloys.

Corrosion resistance and adhesion of electro-paint (E-paint) with fluoride conversion coating (FCC) on AZ31 Mg alloy were studied. Corrosion resistance and adhesion were studied as a function of FCC-treatment time and concentration of FCC-bath. Aqueous hydrogen fluoride (HF) solutions, with concentrations ranging from 0.5 M to 5 M, were used to form FCC on chemically polished AZ31 Mg alloy samples for six different times; 10, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180s. The results from salt spray test (SST) showed that corrosion resistance of E-paint appeared to decrease with increasing FCC treatment times in low concentration FCC baths. The number of blisters formed on the FCC-treated samples increased with increasing FCC treatment time of more than 1 min in low concentration (0.5 M to 1 M) solutions. On the other hand, samples treated in the 5 M HF solution for 120s showed no delamination or blistering even after 1200h of SST.

In this study, the experiments of warm deep drawing were done with heated die, and with heated die and cooled punch in order to investigate the formability of ZA31 magnesium sheet alloy of warm deep drawing. For this, warm deep drawing experiments were executed under various temperature, punch velocity and blankholder force. The results of warm deep drawing with heated die showed that fracture occurred punch part at punch velocity of 75mm/min and punch stroke of 10mm under temperature of $100^{\circ}C\~250^{\circ}C$, but did not occure under temperature of $275^{\circ}C\~400^{\circ}C$. And fracture at punch stroke of 25mm did not occurre at punch part under punch velocity of 30mm/min and $250^{\circ}C$, but occured under punch velocity of 75 and 125 mm/min. Also the results of warm deep drawing with heated die and cooled punch showed that the temperature happening maximum height under punch velocity of 10-100mm/min was $225-250^{\circ}C$. And necking occurred at punch shoulder under $20\~150^{\circ}C$, but at die wall under $200\~300^{\circ}C$.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of annealing treatment on cold formability of magnesium alloy sheet AZ31. The AZ31 sheets with three different thickness (1.0t, 1.6t, 2.0t) were annealed at three different temperatures ($345^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$). The mechanical properties and microstructure evolution of the annealed AZ31 were examined as well as limit dome height (LDH) and compared with those of as received one. The cold formability was enhanced but the strength was deteriorated by the annealing treatment.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of solution treatment on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of cast AZ91-4%RE magnesium alloy. In the as-cast state, microstructure of the AZ91-4%RE alloy was characterized by intermetallic ${\beta}(Mg_{17}Al_{12})$, $Al_{11}RE_3$ and $Al_2RE$ phase particles distributed in ${\alpha}-(Mg)$ matrix. After solution treatment, the ${\beta}$ particles with low melting point dissolved into the matrix, but Al-RE phases still remained due to their high thermal stabilities. It was found from the immersion and potentiodynamic polarization tests that corrosion rate of the AZ91-4%RE alloy increased after the solution treatment. On the contrary, EIS tests and EDS compositional analyses on the surface corrosion products indicated that the stability of the corrosion product was improved after the solution treatment. Examinations on the corroded microstructures for the ascast and solution-treated samples revealed that dissolution of the ${\beta}$ particles which play a beneficial role in suppressing corrosion propagation, would be responsible for the deterioration of corrosion resistance after the solution treatment. This result implies that the microstructural features such as amount, size and distribution of secondary phases that determine corrosion mechanism, are more influential on the corrosion rate in comparison with the stability of surface corrosion product.
