A reasonable analysis of cutting force in end milling may give much advantage to improvement of productivity and cutting tool life. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting constants of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, feed, axial depth, and radial depth of cut. The effects of the cutting conditions on the specific cutting force constants in milling were studied. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured culling forces obtained from machining experiments
For improvement of productivity and cutting tool lift, cutting force in end milling needs to be predicted accurately. In order to analyze cutting force, the cutting dynamics was modelled mathematically by using chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and the chip load. Specific cutting force coefficients of the cutting dynamics model were obtained by average cutting forces, tool diameter, cutting speed, fled, axial depth and radial depth of cut. The effects of the cutting conditions on the specific cutting force constants in milling were studied. The model is verified through comparisons of model predicted cutting forces with measured cutting forces obtained from machining experiments.
With increasing the needs for micro and precision parts, micro machining technology has been studied to fabricate a small part with high density such as electronics, optics, communications, and medicine industry more than before. But there are many problems to be solved requiring a high-level technology. So this research presents the new method to fabricate a small part through applying chemical mechanical micro machining (C3M) for the Al wafer. Al(thickness I ,u m) was sputtered on the Si substrate. Al is widely used as a lightweight material. However form defect such as burr has a bad effect on products. To improve machinability of ductile material, oxide layer was formed on the surface of AI wafcr before grooving by chemical reaction with HN03(10wt%). And then workpieces were machined to compare conventional micro-machining process with newly suggested method at different machining condition such as load and feed rate. To evaluate whether or not the machinability was improved by the effect of chemical condition, such as the size, the width of grooves 'and burr generation were measured. Finally, it is confirmed that C3M is one of the feasible tools for micro machining with the aid of effect of the chemical reaction.
Recently high speed machining is being studied actively to reduce machining time and to improve machining precision. To perform efficient high speed machining, evaluation of high speed machinability must be studied preferentially and it can be identified by investigation of cutting force. To measure cutting forces in high speed machining, dynamometer which has high natural frequency was newly designed using 3-axes piezo force sensor. For newly designed dynamometer, calibration is conducted with sensitivity of force sensor modulated and proper preload and interference force are investigated experimently. Also, cutting force signals of newly designed dynamometer are compared with those of conventional one in high speed cutting experiment and its superiority is confirmed. Then using newly designed dynamometer, high speed machinability is evaluated about cutting force and tool wear in various cutting conditions.
C3M(chemical mechanical micro machining) is applied for diminishing the size of burr and fabricating the massless patterning for aluminium wafer(thickness of 1${\mu}m$). It is difficult to perform the micro size machining with the radically increased shear stress. While the miniaturization and function-orientation of parts has been needed in the many field such as electronics, optics and medicine. etc., it is not enough to satisfy the industry needs in the machining technology. In this paper feasibility test of diminishing burr and fabricating maskless pattern was experimented and analyzed. In the experiment oxide layer was farmed on the aluminium with chemical reaction by ${HNO_3}$(10wt%), then the surface was grooved with tungsten carbide tool for the different condition such as the load and fred rate. The result was compared with the conventional machining to show the improvement of C3M with SEM for burr diminish and XPS for atomic existence, AFM for more precise image.
This paper describes a method of calculating the feedrate for the constant cutting speed at a CL-point in 5-axis machining. Unlike 3-axis machining, 5-axis machining has the flexibility of the tool motions due to two rotation axes. But the feedrate at joint space differs from the feedrate at a tool tip(the CL-point) of the 3D Euclidean space for the tool motions. The proposed algorithm adjusts the feedrate based on 5-axis NC data, the kinematics of a machine, and the tool length. The following calculations is processed for each NC block to generate the new feedrate; 1) calculating the moving distance at the CL-point, 2) calculating the moving time by the given feedrate, 3) calculating the feedrate of each axis, 4) getting the new feedrate. The proposed algorithm was applied to a 5-axis machine which had a tilting spindle and a rotary table. Totally, the result of the algorithm reduced the machining time and smoothed the cutting-load by the constant cutting speed at the CL-point.
Since mold industries are regarded as belonging to three types of bad business, capable young people are reluctant to work in this field. The industries are hard to employ skilled workers who have much experience and knowledge On the mold manufacturing. Thus, effective CAM systems are required for unskilled workers to create process plans and NC data for the manufacturing, and process plans play important roles in the downstream manufacturing processes, such as NC machining, polishing, and final assembly. This study proposes a decision support system that facilitates unskilled workers to easily select high quality NC-data, as well as to increase productivity. The proposed system is assumed to follow a CAM operation scenario that consists of next three steps: 1) identifying several process plans and enumerating feasible unit machining operations (UMOs) from material and part surface information, 2) creating all feasible NC-data based on UMOs using a commercial CAM system, 3) selecting the best NC data among the feasible NC data using four screening criteria, such as machining accuracy, machining allowance, cutting load, and processing time. A case study on the machining of a camera core mold is provided to demonstrate the proposed system.
In recent years, developments in the semiconductor and electronic industries have brought a rapid increase in the use of large size silicon wafer. For further improvement of the ultra precision surface and flatness of Si wafer necessary to high density ULSI, it is known that polishing is very important. However, most of these investigation was experiment less than 300mm diameter. Polishing is one of the important methods in manufacturing of Si wafers and in thinning of completed device wafers. This study reports the machining variables that has major influence on the characteristic of wafer polishing. It was adapted to polishing pressure, machining speed, and the slurry mix ratio, the optimum condition is selected by ultra precision wafer polishing using load cell and infrared temperature sensor. The optimum machining condition is selected a result data that use a pressure and table speed data. By using optimum condition, it achieves a ultra precision mirror like surface.
Increasing demands on precision machining of 3D free-form surface have necessitated the tool to move smoothly with varying feedrate. To this regard, parametric interpolators such as NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) interpolator have been introduced in CNC machining system. Such interpolators reduce the data burden in NC code, increase data transfer rate into NC controller, and finally give smooth motion while machining. In this research, a new concept to control cutting load in NURBS Interpolator was tried based on the curvature of curve. This is to protect cutting tool, and to have good machinability. For proof of the system, cutting force and surface topography were evaluated. From the experimental results. the interpolator is good enough for machining a free-form surface.

A continuous tool-path, that is to cut continuously with the minimum number of cutter retractions during the cutting operations, is developed in order to minimise the fluctuation of cutting load and the possibility of chipping on the cutting edge in HSM (high-speed machining). This algorithm begins with the offset procedure along the boundary curve of the sculptured surface being machined. In the of offset procedure, the offset distance is determined such that the scallop height maintains a constant roughness to ensure higher levels of efficiency and quality in high-speed machining. Then, the continuous path is generated as a kind of the diagonal curve between the offset curves. This path strategy is able to connect to neighbor paths without cutter retractions. Therefore, the minimum tool retraction tool-path can be generated And, it allows the sculptured surface incorporating both steep and flat areas to be high-speed machined.
