유리의 미세 가공을 위한 구리 전극군의 제작과 전기 화학 방전 가공 시험 (Fabrication of Copper Electrode Array and Test of Electrochemical Discharge Machining for Micro Machining of Glass)

  • In this paper, we present the fabrication of copper electrode array and test of electrochemical discharge machining(ECDM) for glass machining. An array of 72 Cu electrodes is used to machine Borofloat33 glass. The height and diameter of a Cu electrode are 400 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ respectively. It is fabricated by ICP-RIE, Au-Au thermo-compression bonding, and copper electroplating. Borofloat33 glass is machined by the fabricated copper electrode array in 60 seconds at 55 V. The surface roughness of the machined glass is measured and the machined glass is anodically bonded with silicon.

Surface Integrity and Tribological Properties of Machined Surfaces

  • The surface integrity of a machined surface is an important factor that dictates several performance characteristics of a metal part. In this paper, the surface integrity aspects are presented specifically with respect to the tribological properties of steel. Test specimens were prepared under varying conditions to induce different levels of surface deformation and hardness. Sliding and rolling experiments were performed to assess the friction and wear characteristics of these specimens using a pinon-disk type tribotester and a plate-on-ball type set-up. It is reaffirmed that heat treated steels possess superior sliding and rolling fatigue resistance than raw steel. However, for the case of raw steels machined under varying conditions, the harder specimen resulted in higher wear. This result is attributed to the presence of surface cracks that were induced during machining. The results of such findings will aid in the optimization of surface preparation process for tribological applications of steel.

  • Actuator arm of HDD were machined with the slitting saw of tungsten carbide to clarify the cutting characteristics in terms of the roughness of machined surface, the burr size and the tool wear. An improved performance in all view of the surface machined, the tool life and the cutting efficiency was obtained at the cutting speed of 4,000rpm with the feed of 300m/min. The tool life increases with increasing the t/T value, whereas surface roughness decreases. The tool with alternate type of B and C edges has an effect to decrease the burr size.

저순도 알루미나 세라믹 가소결재의 피삭성

  • In this study, unsistered, pre-sintered and sintered low purity alumina ceramics were machined with various tools to clarify the machniability, the optimum tool materials and the optimum tool materials and the optimum cutting conditions. The maon conclusions obtained were as follows. (1) Machined withalloy steel tool, the machinabilty of te pre-sintered ceramics becomes better with the decrease of pre-sintering temperature, but that of unsintered ceramics(white body) was extremely poor. (2) In the case of carbide tool K01, the tool life in machining white body was the longest, and the machinabilty of pre-sintered ceramics becomes poorer with the increase of the pre-sintering temperature. (3) In the case of ceramic tool, the 10000-1100 .deg. C pre-sintered ceramics showed te best machinability within a certain cutting speed range. So far as dry machining, the above combination and conditions showed the highest productivity. (4) When the pre-sintered ceramics were wet machined withsintered diamond tool, the tool life becomes extremelylong, and higher cutting speed can be can be used than in the case offull-sintered ceramics. The productivity of wet cutting is much higher than that ofdry cutting.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of surface roughness and cutting force in ultraprecision cutting of aluminium alloy using natural diamond tools whose edge radii are smaller than those of tools made of other materials. The feed rate and depth of engagement were set to be a micrometer order. After measuring the surface roughness of machined surface and cutting force for each cutting condition, the relations between the surface quality and its condition were investigated qualitatively. If the feed rate was under a certain limit, the machined surface quality was deteriorated unexpectedly. This is supposed to have happened due to vibration leading its condition to abnormal one. In a certain situation the machined surface roughness by a natural diamond tool was inferior to that made by a carbide tool whose cutting edge radius is larger. This is supposed to be caused by not normal machining but burnishing effect.

  • Rouge cutting process takes the major portion of machining operation using NC milling machine. Especially, most of the machining time is spent in this process when molds are machined. Therefore, an efficient algorithm for generating the tool path for rough cutting is suggested in this paper. The first step of the procedure is getting the volume to be machined by applying the Boolean operation on the finished model and the workpiece which have been modeling system. Basic principle of determining machining procedure is that a large tool should be used at the portion of the simple shape while a small tool should be used at the complex portion. This principle is realized by representing the volume to be machined by an octree, which is basically a set of hexahedrons, and matching the proper tools with the given octants. When the tools are matched with the octants, the tool path can be derived at the same time.

  • New method for the design, fabrication, and calibration of micro-machined heat flux sensor has been developed. Two types of micro-machined heat flux sensor having different thicknesses of the thermal-resistance layer are fabricated using the MEMS technique. Photo-resist patterning using a chrome mask, bulk-etching and copper-nickel sputtering using a shadow mask are applied to make heat flux sensors, which are calibrated in the convection-type heat flux calibration facility. The sensitivity of the device varies with thermal-resistance layer, and hence can be used to measure the heat flux in heat-transfer phenomena.

Inverse Offset Method for Adaptive Cutter Path Generation from Point-based Surface

  • The inverse offset method (IOM) is widely used for generating cutter paths from the point-based surface where the surface is characterised by a set of surface points rather than parametric polynomial surface equations. In the IOM, cutter path planning is carried out by specifying the grid sizes, called the step-forward and step-interval distances respectively in the forward and transverse cutting directions. The step-forward distance causes the chordal deviation and the step-forward distance produces the cusp. The chordal deviation and cusp are also functions of local surface slopes and curvatures. As the slopes and curvatures vary over the surface, different step-forward and step-interval distances are appropriate in different areas for obtaining the machined surface accurately and efficiently. In this paper, the chordal deviation and cusp height are calculated in consideration with the surface slopes and curvatures, and their combined effect is used to estimate the machined surface error. An adaptive grid generation algorithm is proposed, which enables the IOM to generate cutter paths adaptively using different step-forward and step-interval distances in different regions rather than constant step-forward and step-interval distances for entire surface.

표면처리가 교정용 미니 임플랜트의 식립수직력과 토크에 미치는 영향 (Influence of surface treatment on the insertion pattern of self-drilling orthodontic mini-implants)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 유지력을 높이기 위하여 교정용 미니 임플랜트에 표면처리를 시행하되 식립 과정의 용이성에 영향을 주지 않는 표면처리 방법을 찾기 위함이다. 교정용 미니 임플랜트를 etching, resorbable blasting media (RBM), 상부 나사산 부위만 RBM 처리를 한 hybrid 등의 3가지 방법으로 표면처리한 후 machined (표면 미처리)군과 비교하였다. 주사전자현미경과 표면 거칠기 측정기로 표면 거칠기를 비교하였으며, driving torque tester를 이용해 실험용 인공골에 교정용 미니 임플랜트를 식립하여, 식립 토크(rotational torque)와 수직력(vertical loading)의 식립 패턴을 비교하였다. Machined surface군과 비교하여 acid etching군에서는 표면 거칠기(Ra 값)가 크지 않았으나 ($p$ > 0.05), RBM군이나 hybrid군에서 표면 거칠기(Ra 값)가 유의하게 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 최종 식립 토크는 모든 표면처리군에서 machined군보다 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 최대 식립수직력은 hybrid군이 machined군이나 etched군보다 유의하게 작았으며 ($p$ < 0.05), RBM군이 가장 컸다 ($p$ < 0.05). 교정용 미니 임플랜트의 유지력을 높이기 위하여 보철용 임플랜트와 같은 방법으로 전면 표면처리를 하면 self drilling type 고유의 골 삭제기능이 저하될 수 있다. 그러나 cutting edge 일정 부위를 제외하며 적절하게 조절된 표면처리를 하면 골 삭제 능력의 큰 저하 없이 용이한 식립이 가능할 것으로 보인다.

보석용 다이아몬드의 연마가공 (A Study on the Polishing Machining of Diamond for Jewelry)

  • The present study deals with polishing machining of diamond for jewelry using developed automatic polishing machine that can cut diamond to have 58 facets in a brilliant cutting which has been hardly achieved by a conventional manually operating polishing machine. Upon the 3-dimensional Sarin M/C test and analysis on the machined diamond by the developed automatic polishing machine its proportion and finishing turned out to be better than the machined diamond by the conventional manually operating polishing machine.
