  • The paper will present chip formation mechanism and surface integrity generation mechanism based on the systematical experimental tests. Some basic factors such as the end milling cutter tooth number, cutting forces, cutting temperature, cutting vibration the chip status, the surface roughness, the hardness distribution and the metallographic texture of the machined surface layer are involved. The chip formation mechanism is typical thermal plastic shear localization at high cutting speed with less number of shear ribbons and bigger shear angle than that at low speed, which means lack of chip deformation. The high cutting speed with much more cutting teeth will be beneficial to the reduction of cutting forces, enlarge machining stability mot depression of temperature increment anti-fatigability as well as surface roughness. The burrs always exist both at low cutting speed and at high cutting speed. So the deburring process should be arranged for milling titanium alloy in my case.

  • An object transport system is driven by a conveyor belt system or a magnetic levitation system. It is an indispensable device in many fields and especially it is very important in the factory automation. However, the conventional transport system can damage precision optical components by the contact force and destroy the inner structure of semiconductor by the magnetic field. The new transport system for transporting without damage is required. The ultrasonic transport system is a device that transports objects on the elastic body using ultrasonic wave. In this paper, an object transport system using the ultrasonic wave is developed for transporting precision elements without damage. Traveling waves are generated by the ultrasonic wave generator fixed in both ends of the beam. The traveling wave of the ultrasonic transport system is theoretically analyzed. Transport direction of the object is examined according to phase difference and frequency. The theoretical results are verified by experiments.

  • Cogging torque has a negative impact on the operation of permanent magnet machines by increasing torque ripple, speed ripple, acoustic noise and vibration. In this paper Magnet Shifting Method has been used as a tool to reduce the cogging torque in inset Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM). It has been shown that Magnet Shifting Method can effectively eliminate several lower-order harmonics of cogging torque. In order to implement the method, first the expression of cogging torque is studied based on the Fourier analysis. An analytical expression is then introduced based on Permanent Magnet Shifting to reduce cogging torque of LSPMS motors. The method is applied to some existing machine designs and their performances are obtained using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The effect of magnet shifting on pole mmf (magneto motive force) distribution in air gap is discussed. The side effects of magnet shifting on back-EMF, core losses and torque profile distortion are taken into account in this investigation. Finally the experimental results on two prototypes 24 slot 4 pole inset LSPMS motors have been used to validate the theoretical analysis.

  • This work investigated the performance improvement of a medium-pressure fixed-displacement-type SPUR gear pump, which is mainly used in the machine tool industry. The 3D CFX analysis and IS technique were applied using ANSYS (commercial FEM code) and compared with experimental results to ensure the reliability of the analysis. In addition, the performance improvement of the pump was obtained using the theoretical volumetric displacement equation, and the gear tooth width was changed. The pressure flow performance curves were compared, and the results were analyzed according to the width of the gear teeth. This is a factor that can cause irregular flow, vibration, and noise inside the gear pump owing to friction between the housing and gear pump.

  • The good light permeability and hardness of glass allow it to be used in various fields. Non-conventional machining methods have been used for glass machining because of its brittle properties. As one non-contact machining method, a laser has advantages that include a high machining speed and the fact that no tool making is required. However, glass has light permeability. Thus, the use of a laser to machine glass has limitations. A nanosecond pulse laser can be used at low power for laser-induced backside wet etching, which is an indirect method. In previous studies, a short-wave laser that had good light absorption but a high price was used. In this study, a near-infrared laser was used to test the possibility of glass micro-machining. In particular, when deeper machining was conducted on a glass structure, more problems could result. To solve these problems, microstructure manufacturing was conducted using ultrasonic vibration.

  • In the current machining industry, machining precision is necessary and machining is being carried out. In this ultra-precision machining industry, the fixation of the workpiece is very important and the degree of machining depends on the degree of fixation of the workpiece. In ultra-precision machining, various methods, such as using a vise chuck or the like and using bolt nut coupling, are used for fixing a workpiece to an existing machine tool. In particular, when the precision gripping force of the jig is insufficient during machining of the ultra-precision mold parts, the machining material shakes due to the vibration or friction, and the machining precision is lowered. In the ultra-precision machining of power transmission parts, such as gears, the accuracy of the product is then determined. In addition, the amount of heat generated during machining has a significant effect on the machining accuracy. This is because the vibration value changes according to the grasp force of the jig that fixes the workpiece, and the change in the calorific value due to the change in the main shaft rotation speed of the ultra-precision machining. The increase in the spindle rotation speed during machining decreased the heat generation during machining, and the machining accuracy was also good, and it was confirmed that the machining heat changed according to the fixed state of the workpiece and the machining accuracy also changed. In this study, we try to optimize the driving part of the power vise by using structural analysis, rather than the power vise, using the basic mechanical-type power unit.

  • An impeller is a type of high-speed rotor that is used to compress or transfer fluid under high-speed and pressure at high temperatures. The impeller is composed of an axial hub and several blades attached along the hub. The weight and shape of an impeller must be balanced, because their imbalances can cause noise and vibration, which can lead to the breakage of the impeller blades during operation. Thus, the hub and blades of an impeller are commonly machined in a 5-axis NC machine to obtain qualified surfaces. The impeller machining strategy or process plan can not be easily obtained due to the complex, overlapped and twisted shapes of impeller blades. Skillful machining process planners may generate appropriate machining strategies based on their experiences and floor data. However, in practice most shop floor data for the impeller machining is not well-structured such that it does not effectively provide a process planner with information for machining strategies and/or process plans. This paper reports the development of a case-based machining strategy support system (CBMS) that employs case-based reasoning to obtain the machining strategy of an impeller by using the existing machining strategies of the shop floor. The CBMS generates impeller machining strategies through a stepwise reasoning process considering the similarity features between the blade shapes and machining regions. A case study is provided to demonstrate that CBMS can generate useful machining strategies facilitating process planners. The developed system can simulate the tool paths of impeller machining and runs on the web.

  • The present study treats the optimization process for a non-linear grinding system with dual time delay, mainly from the energetic viewpoint. To this end, the stability of the grinding system is investigated first with regard to the grinding wheel rotation speed. The concept of grinding energy density is newly proposed as the primary figure of merit and this quantity is evaluated at various stable and limit cycle conditions. The computational results show that simple monotonic trend in energy density is observed under stable conditions, whilst rather complicated behaviors can appear when the conditions are associated with limit cycle oscillations. Finally, the relations between the vibration amplitude and the energy density and their implications on the engineering decision/compromise are discussed.

  • Design for a quiet operation of fluid power system requires the understanding of noise and vibration characteristics of the system. It's not easy to analyze noise problem in hydraulic cylinder used in typical actuator Because they've got complex fluid dynamics. One of the fundamental problems associated with the hydraulic system is the pulsating flow in pipe lines, which can be tackled by the analysis under simplifying assumptions. The present study focuses on theoretic analysis and experimental study on the dynamics of laminar pulsating flow in a circular pipe. We analyze the propagation characteristics of the pressure pulse within a hydraulic pipe line taking into account the pulsating flow frequency variation. We also measure instantaneous pressure pulses within pipe line to identify the transfer functions. We conduct series of experiments to investigate the propagation characteristics of pressure pulse for various pressure of pulsating flow. The working fluid of the present study is ISO VG46 and the temperature ranges from 20 to $60^{\circ}$ with normal pressure at 4000kPa. The flow rate is measured by using an ultrasonic flow meter. Pressures at fixed upstream and downstream positions are measured concurrently. The electric signals of the pressure sensor are stored and analyzed using a system analyzer(PKE 983 series). The frequency is varied in the range of 10~500Hz. The Reynolds number is kept below 2,000. In the present study, boundary condition was varied by installing a surge tank and an orifice at the end of pipe. Experimental and theoretical results were compared each other under various boundary conditions.
