Three-dimensional flow analysis is implemented to investigate the flow through transonic axial-flow compressor rotor(NASA R67), and to evaluate the performances of k-$\epsilon$ and Baldwin-Lomax turbulence models. A finite volume method is used for spatial discretization. And, the equations are solved implicitly in time with the use of approximate factorization. Upwind difference scheme is used for inviscid terms, but viscous terms are centrally differenced. The flux-difference-splitting of Roe is used to obtain fluxes at the cell faces. Numerical analysis is performed near peak efficiency and near stall. And, the results are compared with the experimental data for NASA R67 rotor. Blade-to-Blade Mach number distributions are compared to confirm the accuracy of the code. From the results, we conclude that k-$\epsilon$ model is better for the calculation of flow rate and efficiency than Baldwin-Lomax model. But, the predictions for Mach number and shock structure are almost same.
The supersonic jet discharging from a petal nozzle is known to enhance mixing effect with the surrounding gas because it produces strong longitudinal vortices due to the velocity difference from both the major and minor axes of petal nozzle. In the present study, the supersonic free jet discharging from the petal nozzle is investigated experimentally. The nozzles used are 4, 6, and 8 lobed petal nozzles with a design Mach number of 1.7, and the flow fields are compared with a circular nozzle with the same design Mach number. The pitot impact pressures are measured using a fine pilot probe. The flow fields are visualized using a Schlieren optical method. The results show that the petal nozzle has more increased supersonic length compared with the circular jet.

A computation using the mass-averaged implicit Wavier-Stokes equations has been applied to solve the flow fields of the supersonic jets normally injected into supersonic freestreams and several types of turbulence model has been employed to close the governing equations. The ratio of the freestream to injection flow total pressures has been varied to elucidate the major characteristics of the mixing flow of the two streams. The freestream Mach number has been varied to investigate some change in the injection flow field. The results show that the positions of the separation and reattachment, locating upstream and downstream of the injection hole respectively, are strongly dependent on the ratio of total pressures and the freestream Mach number.
We propose semi-analytic models for the electron momentum distribution in weak shocks that accounts for both in situ acceleration and reacceleration through diffusive shock acceleration (DSA). In the former case, a small fraction of incoming electrons is assumed to be reflected at the shock ramp and pre-accelerated to the so-called injection momentum, pinj, above which particles can diffuse across the shock transition and participate in the DSA process. This leads to the DSA power-law distribution extending from the smallest momentum of reflected electrons, pref, all the way to the cutoff momentum, peq, constrained by radiative cooling. In the latter case, fossil electrons, specified by a power-law spectrum with a cutoff, are assumed to be re-accelerated from pref up to peq via DSA. We show that, in the in situ acceleration model, the amplitude of radio synchrotron emission depends strongly on the shock Mach number, whereas it varies rather weakly in the re-acceleration model.
In this study, scale-down design of full-scale Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) main rotor blade has been investigated. The scaled model system were designed for the measurement of aerodynamic performance, tip vortex and noise source. For the purpose of considering the same aerodynamic loads, the Mach-scale method has been applied. The Mach-scaled model has the same tip Mach number, and it also has the same normalized frequencies. That is, the Mach-scaled model is analogous to full-scale model in the view point of aerodynamics and structural dynamics. Aerodynamic scale-down process could be completed just by adjusting scaling dimensions and increasing rotating speed. In the field of structural dynamics, design process could be finished by confirming the rotating frequencies of the designed blade with the stiffness and inertial properties distributions produced by sectional design. In this study, small-scaled blade sectional design were performed by applying domestic composite prepregs and structural dynamic characteristics of designed model has been investigated.
The Numerical study has been carried out to investigate the effects of chemical reaction and thermal radiation on the rocket plume flow-field at various altitudes. The theoretical formulation is based on the Navier-Stokes equations for compressible flows along with the infinitely fast chemistry and thermal radiation. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume fully-implicit TVD(Total Variation Diminishing) code which uses Roe's approximate Riemann solver and MUSCL(Monotone Upstream-centered Schemes for Conservation Laws) scheme. LU-SGS (Lower Upper Symmetric Gauss Seidel) method is used for the implicit solution strategy. An equilibrium chemistry module for hydrocarbon mixture with detailed thermo-chemical properties and a thermal radiation module for optically thin media were incorporated with the fluid dynamics code. In this study, kerosene-fueled rocket was assumed operating at O/F ratio of 2.34 with a nozzle expansion ratio of 6.14. Flight conditions considered were Mach number zero at ground level, Mach number 1.16 at altitude 5.06km and Mach number 2.9 at altitude 17.34km. Numerical results gave the understandings on the detailed plume structures at different altitude conditions. The diffusive effect of the thermal radiation on temperature field and the effect of chemical recombination during the expansion process could be also understood. By comparing the results from frozen flow and infinitely fast chemistry assumptions, the excess temperature of the exhaust gas resulting from the chemical recombination seems to be significant and cannot be neglected in the view point of performance, thermal protection and flow physics.

The compressible flow of reactive fluid is investigated by using the transonic small-disturbance (TSD) model and the one-step first-order Arrhenuis chemical reaction. The fluid flow is restricted to dilute premixed reactions with small heat release. The effects of channel shape and Mach number on transonic combustion are studied by numerical analysis. The results show that the channel divergence increases the chemical reaction within the given channel length whereas the channel convergence inhibits the chemical reaction near the outlet and that increasing the inlet flow Mach number at a fixed reaction rate causes the flow acceleration in a diverging channel and the appearance of weak shock waves which do not show in the inert flow case. It also helps to increase the pressure and temperature near the diverging channel outlet and to consume the reactant within the given channel length.

Buzz margin scheduling and control technique which are suitable to regulate stable and high pressure air in wide range of Mach number are suggested for fixed geometry of a supersonic intake. From the analysis of preceding study, most effective control variable is induced and scheduling law is newly suggested in a real application point of view. The appropriateness of the control law in wide range of Mach number is addressed by numerical simulation of controlled propulsion system. Also, the simulation for stabilization and tracking performances of the controller are studied to investigate the phenomena under flight maneuver and disturbances.

In this study, the affect of mounting axisymmetrical supersonic inlet to airfoil, which has 65 degree swept angle was numerically investigated. The parameter for this calculation are tree stream Mach number M=2.0 and 2.5, the distance between inlet spike and airfoil lower surface $L_{sw}$/$R_{cowl}$ = 1.21-1.54 and angle of attack to the airfoil 0-4. The mass capture ratio improved 3points in M=2.0 condition and 1points in M=2.5 while the mass capture ratio without airfoil surface was 57% and 71 % for each case. These are the result from increase of density and change of velocity deflection by the shock wave structure formed between inlet and airfoil surface. On the other hand, the distortion of Mach number at cowl lip plane increased by 13% in M=2.0, 3% in M=2.5 condition. The effects of the angle attack on the mass capture ratio is greater than that of the shock wave interaction between inlet and cowl, but the effects to the distortion is smaller in the range of this calculation condition. In the condition of M=2.0 with 4 degrees of angle of attack, inlet distortion of Mach number is mainly caused by the affects of the shock wave interaction between inlet and airfoil surface, while the largest angle of the velocity vector in the radial direction at cowl lip plane is caused by the affect of angle of attack. This large velocity vector made the flow inside the cowl subsonic and caused spillage, which interfere with the boundary layer of airfoil surface.
