  • In video image compression, it is important to extract the exact notion information from image sequence in order to perform the data compression, the field rate conversion, and the motion compensated interpolation effectively. It is well known that the location of the smallest sum of absolute difference(SAD) does not always give the true motion vector(MV) since the MV obtained via full block search is often corrupted by noise. In this paper, we first classifies the input blocks into 3 categories : the background, the shade-motion, and the edge-motion. According to the characteristics of the classified blocks, multiple locations of relatively small SAD are searched with an adaptive search window by using the proposed method. The proposed method picks MVs among those candidates by using temporal correlation. Since temporal correlation reveals the noise level in a particular region of the video image sequence, we are able to reduce the search are very effectively.

  • Turnip mosaic potyviruses (TuMV) were isolated from Rorippa indica and Armoracia lapathifolia showing mosaic symptoms in field. Identification of the TuMVs were carried out by host reactions of indicator plants, electron micrograph, serological properties and reverse transcription-poly-merase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Both viruses systemically infected Chenopodium quinoa, Nicotiana clevelandii, Brassica rapa, B. campestris subsp. pekinensis, B. juncea and Raphanus sativus, and developed local infection on inoculated leaves of C. quinoa, C. amaranticola, C. album, N. tabacum cv. Xanthi nc and Gomphrena grobosa. However, the viruses did not infect on N. glutinosa, Cucumis sativus and Vigna unguiculata. The filamentous particles, about 720 nm in length, and inclusion bodies were observed from the infected leaf tissues by dipping on electron microscopy. Crude sap of leaf infected with the viruses was reacted positively with an antiserum of TuMV in agar gel double diffusion. For detection of the viruses, RT-PCR was carried out with TuMV--specfic oligonucleotide primer. The RT-PCR products, a 1,092 bp DNA fragment, were obtained from naturally infected leaves of R. indica and A. lapathifolia. In inoculation test to seven cruciferous weeds with TuMV, infection occurred in Arabis glabra, Barbarea orthoceras, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Draba nomorosa var. hebecarpa, Rorippa cantoniensis and Thlaspi arvense.

  • This paper presents encryption techniques for digital right management solutions of MPEG-4 streams. MPEG-4 is a format for multimedia streaming and stored in the MPEG-4 file format. We designed three kinds of encryption methods, which encrypt macro blocks (MBs) or motion vectors (MVs) of I-, P-VOPs (Video Object Planes), extracted from the MPEG-4 file format. We used DES to encrypt MPEG-4 data Based on theses three methods, we designed and implemented a DRM solution for an Internet broadcasting service, which enabled a MPEG-4 data streaming, and then compared the results of decryption speed and quality of rendered video sequences to get an optimal encryption method.

  • Among various inter prediction techniques of Versatile Video Coding (VVC), adaptive motion vector resolution (AMVR) technology has been adopted. However, for AMVR, various MVs should be tested per each coding unit, which needs a computation of rate-distortion cost and results in an increase in encoding complexity. Therefore, in order to reduce the encoding complexity of AMVR, it is necessary to effectively find an optimal AMVR mode. In this paper, we propose a lightweight neural network-based AMVR decision algorithm based on more diverse datasets.

  • The human microbiome is known to play an essential role in influencing host health. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have also been reported to act on a variety of signaling pathways, distally transport cellular components such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acid, and have immunomodulatory effects. Here we shall review the current understanding of the intersectionality of the human microbiome and EVs in the emerging field of microbiota-derived EVs and their pharmacological potential. Microbes secrete several classes of EVs: outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), membrane vesicles (MVs), and apoptotic bodies. EV biogenesis is unique to each cell and regulated by sophisticated signaling pathways. EVs are primarily composed of lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, and recent evidence suggests they may also carry metabolites. These components interact with host cells and control various cellular processes by transferring their constituents. The pharmacological potential of microbiome-derived EVs as vaccine candidates, biomarkers, and a smart drug delivery system is a promising area of future research. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate in detail the mechanisms of microbiome-derived EV action in host health in a multi-disciplinary manner.

  • In order to deeply reveal the working mechanism of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) filled steel tubular columns (UHPCFSTs) under cyclic loading, a three-dimension (3D) macro-mesoscale finite element (FE) model was established considering the randomness of steel fibers and the damage of UHPC. Model correctness and reliability were verified based on the experimental results. Next, the whole failure process of UHPC reinforced with steel fibers, passive confinement effect and internal force distribution laws were comprehensively analyzed and discussed. Finally, a simplified and practical method was proposed for predicting the ultimate bending strengths of UHPCFSTs. It was found that the non-uniform confinement effect of steel tube occurred when the drift ratio exceeded 0.5%, while the confining stress increased then decreased afterwards. There was preferable synergy between the steel tube and UHPC until failure. Compared with experimental results, the ultimate bending strengths of UHPCFSTs were undervalued by the current code provisions such as AISC360-10, EC4 and GB50936 with computed mean values (MVs) of 0.855, 0.880 and 0.836, respectively. The proposed practical method was highly accurate, as evidenced by a mean value of 1.058.

  • In this paper, a novel frame rate up conversion (FRUC) algorithm using adaptive extended bilateral motion estimation (AEBME) is proposed. Conventionally, extended bilateral motion estimation (EBME) conducts dual motion estimation (ME) processes on the same region, therefore involves high complexity. However, in this proposed scheme, a novel block type matching procedure is suggested to accelerate the ME procedure. We calculate the edge information using sobel mask, and the calculated edge information is used in block type matching procedure. Based on the block type matching, decision will be made whether to use EBME. Motion vector smoothing (MVS) is adopted to detect outliers and correct outliers in the motion vector field. Finally, overlapped block motion compensation (OBMC) and motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) are adopted to interpolate the intermediate frame in which OBMC is employed adaptively based on frame motion activity. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm has outstanding performance and fast computation comparing with EBME.

  • In this paper, we propose the efficient processing technique for unavailable data in hardware implementation of motion estimator in H.264/AVC with parallel processing architecture. Motion estimation processing in the hardware is generally based on pipe-lining, some MV data of neighbor blocks are not available, whereas all MV data are valid in software processing where the data are sequentially processed. In this paper, we solve the problem of data being unavailable in MVp computation. To minimize the quality degradation caused by unavailable MVs, in the proposed method, the unavailable MV of a neighboring block is replaced with an integer pel unit MV, an MVp of neighboring blocks, or an MVcol (MV of co-located block). Comparing to the conventional method [7], our method outperformed maximally 0.832dB and 0.179dB for QCIF and CIF, respectively, in terms of BDPSNR.

  • A machine vision system (MVS) is a computer system that utilizes one or more image-capturing devices to provide image data for analysis and interpretation. Recently there have been a number of industrial- and medical-device applications where control charts have been proposed for use with image data. The use of image-based control charting is somewhat different from traditional control charting applications, and these differences can be attributed to several factors, such as the type of data monitored and how the control charts are applied. In this paper, we investigate the adjustment effect of image size and region of interest (ROI) size, when we use control charts to monitor grayscale image data in industry.
