Control of Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether via Carbon-Doped Photocatalysts under Visible-Light Irradiation

  • The light absorbance of photocatalysts and reaction kinetics of environmental pollutants at the liquid-solid and gas-solid interfaces differ from each other. Nevertheless, many previous photocatalytic studies have applied the science to aqueopus applications without due consideration of the environment. As such, this work reports the surface and morphological characteristics and photocatalytic activities of carbon-embedded (C-$TiO_2$) photocatalysts for control of gas-phase methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) under a range of different operational conditions. The C-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts were prepared by oxidizing titanium carbide powders at $350^{\circ}C$. The characteristics of the C-$TiO_2$ photocatalysts, along with pure TiC and the reference pure $TiO_2$, were then determined by X-ray diffraction, scanning emission microscope, diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible-near infrared (UV-VIS-NIR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The C-$TiO_2$ powders showed a clear shift in the absorbance spectrum towards the visible region, which indicated that the C-$TiO_2$ photocatalyst could be activated effectively by visible-light irradiation. The MTBE decomposition efficiency depended on operational parameters, including the air flow rate (AFR), input concentration (IC), and relative humidity (RH). As the AFRs decreased from 1.5 to 0.1 L/min, the average efficiencies for MTBE increased from 11% to 77%. The average decomposition efficiencies for the ICs of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ppm were 77%, 77%, 54%, and 38%, respectively. In addition, the decomposition efficiencies for RHs of 20%, 45%, 70%, and 95% were 92%, 76%, 50%, and 32%, respectively. These findings indicate that the prepared photocatalysts could be effectively applied to control airborne MTBE if their operational conditions were optimized.

  • Even if odorous compounds remain very low concentration in water, it cause strong odor. Because Geosmin and most of odorous compound had very low vaporization, those were difficult to analyze with GC/MSD and Purge & Trap. So, we needed pre-treatment method for decreasing amounts of extracting solvents, improving recovery efficiencies and increasing analytical efficiencies. This study developed efficient technology for analyzing odorous compounds, using various adsorbents and extracting solvents. The optimum adsorbent was XAD resins. Especially, XAD-2, XAD-7 and XAD-2010 were superior, but XAD-2 of these and the optimum extraction solvent is MTBE. Other extraction solvents' efficiency is in order of MTBE>Dichloromethane>n-Hexane>Diethylether. The optimum NaCl dosage for increasing efficiency is 5 g in liquid-liquid extraction method. The shaking time(0~24hr) has no concern with adsorption efficiency. The optimum adsorbent is XAD-2 resin and extraction solvent is MTBE. Dosing NaCl, adsorption efficiency is increased in liquid-liquid extraction method, but NaCl has no effect on liquid-solid extraction method. In this experimental results, this algae toxins(Mycrocystin, Anatoxin etc.).

MTBE 가솔린기관의 배기가스 특성에 관한 연구 (Emission Characteristics for the MTBE Gasoline Engine)

  • 본 논문에서는 현재 시판되고 있는 주요 정유회사의 MTBE 가솔린을 이용하여 차량 배출 배기가스를 측정하였다. 배출 가스량은 차량 동력계상에 실제차량을 탑재하여 시험차량의 배기관에서 배출된 배출가스를 포집 하였으며, 우리나라의 공인배출가스 시험방법인 CVS-75 모드를 추적 주행하여 측정 하였다. CVS-75 모드는 cold start cycle, hot stabilized cycle 및 hot start cycle로 구성되며, 본 실험에서 분석한 배출가스는 일산화탄소, 질소산화물 및 탄화수소 등이다. 실험결과 배출 가스의 양에 있어서 근소한 차이만 보이고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 하수처리장 반송라인으로부터 얻은 혼합미생물을 사용하여 실험실에서 회분식 실험을 실행하였으며, 산소가 제한되는 유류 오염지역 내에서의 질산염 전자수용체를 이용한 탈질 박테리아의 질산염 이용 평가와 이에 따른, 현장 적용 타당성을 검토하는데 있다. 미생물은 톨루엔(toluene)을 탄소원으로 하고 질산염을 에너지원으로 이용하는 균주로 우점화한 혼합미생물(mixed culture)을 배양하여 실험에 사용하였다. 본 실험을 통해 유류에 의해 오염된 토양의 혐기성 지역에서의전자수용체로 질산염이 존재한다면, 토착미생물에 의한 분해가 느리지만, 발생될 수 있음을 추정할 수 있었다. 또한 질산염의 유무에 따른 BTEX와 MTBE의 혼합기질의 분해 특성 및 부산물을 살펴볼 수 있었다.

MTBE 함량 변화가 MPI 및 GDi 차량의 배출가스 및 연비에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (An experimental Study of the Effect of MTBE contents on Exhaust Emissions and Fuel Economy of MPI and GDi Vehicles)

  • 본 연구에서는 함산소기재 중 MTBE를 휘발유에 첨가하여 산소함량(0, 1.0, 2.3 및 2.7 wt %)의 변화에 따라 MPI 및 GDi 차량에서 배출되는 유해한 배출가스와 연비를 분석하였다. 국내 및 미국의 연비시험방법인 FTP-75 mode와 HWFET mode를 적용하였다. CO, NMHC, NOx 배출량은 산소함량의 변화에 따라 미미한 차이는 있었지만 상관관계는 없었다. FTP-75 mode에서 CO2 배출량은 산소함량의 변화에 따라 증감의 경향성은 없었다. 하지만 차량이 예열된 상태이고 고속 운전영역이 포함된 FTP-75 mode의 phase-3와 HWFET mode에서는 산소를 함유한 연료의 CO2 배출량이 적었다. 입자개수 배출량은 산소함량과 음의 상관관계를 보였으며 산소함량 2.3 wt %에서 가장 적었다. 카본발란스법에 의해 계산된 연비는 산소를 함유한 연료가 높았으며 2.3 wt %에서 가장 높았다.
