The Effects of Ag and $Y_2BaCuO_5$ on Critical Characteristics of $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ Fabricated by MPMG Method (Ag와 $Y_2BaCuO_5$ 가 고온초전도체의 임계특성에 미치는 영향)

  • $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ samples were fabricated by MPMG(Melt Powdered Melt Growth). Intitial composition of the mixed powders were prepared as follow ; $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ : $Y_2BaCuO_5$ = 1:0, 1:0.2, 1:0.3, 1:0.4. After the first melt and cooling, 5wt% to 20wt% fo Ag power was added to the powder. Effects of the different initial $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and Ag addition amount on $J_c$ and magnetization of $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ fabricated by MPMG method were investigated. The critical current density increased with the amount of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and Ag. It was also observed that the difference between negative and positive magnetization in the magnetization hysteresis measurement at 77K was larger than the case where $Y_2BaCuO_5$and Ag were not added to the $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ powders. It is concluded that $Y_2BaCuO_5$ sample with 40wt% amount of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and 20wt% amount of Ag has not only the largest $J_c$ but also the improved pinning effect.

Parameters to Affect the Cirtical Characteristics of YBaCuO Bulk Prepared by MPMG (MPMG법을 이용한 YBaCuO 초전도체의 임계특성에 영향을 미치는 파라미터)

  • This paper shows the parameters to affect the critical characteristic of YBaCuO superconducting bulk fabricated by MPMG (Melt Powdered Melt Growth)process. In order to investigate proper processing variables, the effect of the holding time at the melting temperature and that of the slow cooling time in $O_2\; ambient\; on\; the\; J_c$ were experimented. And then with the above obtained heat treatment conditions, the effects of addition of $Y_2BaCuO_5\; and\; Ag\; on\; the\; J_c$ were also investigated. A proper slow cooling time yields phase transformation from Tetragonal $(YBa_2Cu_3O_6)$ to Orthorhombic $(YBa_2Cu_3O_7)$ during an annealing time in $O_2$. Ag addition plays a role in increasing the $T_c\; and\; the J_c$, but the magnetization decreases. The $J_c$ and the magnetization increase with addition of Y211. $J_c$ of the sample added Ag 10wt% is superiorover 3000 G. Proper holding time, slow cooling time and amount of impurity addition are important parameters in fabricating the YBaCuO bulk by MPMG process with high $J_c$.

The Critical Characteristics Attributed to the Slow Cooling and Annealing Time in the Melting Growth (용융성장시 서냉시간과 후열처리시간에 따른 임계특성)

  • The influence of slow cooling and annealing time in $O_2$in MPEG process on $J_c$ was investigated. From the measurement of $J_c$,SEM and XRD, it was observed that the critical current density was related with the slow cooling time and annealing time in $O_2$. The value of $J_c$ was the highest at slow cooling time of 40 hour. And also, the value of $J_c$ along the annealing time in $O_2$in the case of the slow cooling time of 40 hours was inclined to increase with annealing time. Consequently, it can be suggested that proper slow cooling time and annealing time after slow cooling in MPMG process be important to improve the critical characteristics.

  • The effects of melting temperature and holding time on the critical current density($J_c$) of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ based superconducting bulk fabricated by MPMG process were investigated. The amount of the formed $Y_2BaCuO_5$ phases increased with the melting temperature. However, the value of critical current density was highest at 1120 $^{\circ}C$. With this proper melting temperature, the effect of holding time on the critical characteristics was also investigated. In the case of Ag addition, the volume of the formed $Y_2BaCuO_5$ phase when the amount of Ag addition was 10 wt% and 20 wt% was observed to be highest at 20 minute and 40 minute respectively. But in the specimen without Ag, volume of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ phase increased as the holding time increased. The proper melting temperature and the holding time obtained were 1120 $^{\circ}C$ and 20 minute. The long holding time was not effective for the $J_c$ improvement as well as the formation of $Y_2BaCuO_5$.
