분사조건에 따른 LPG 인젝터의 분무특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the spray characteristics according to injection conditions for LPG injector)

  • Recently LPG engine is developed to fulfill such new requirements as improved fuel efficiency in additional to further reduced exhaust emission. This experimental study is conducted to analyze spray characteristics for pintle type injector used in a LPLi (Liquid Phase LPG injection) engine. Since spray parameters including penetration length and spray angle make a role to design injector and engine intake system, spray visualization experiment is performed under atmosphere ambient and charging condition using Mie scattering method. From the experimental result under various LPG formation, the increased propane component decreases penetration length because boiling point of propane is lower than butane. To simulate intake charging condition in MPI engine, spray visualization is performed under high pressure condition. As a result, as ambient pressure is increased from atmosphere to 3.0 bar, penetration length is decreased. However, as ambient pressure is increased from atmosphere to 3.0 bar, spray angle is increased.

Computation of dilute polymer solution flows using BCF-RBFN based method and domain decomposition technique

  • This paper reports the suitability of a domain decomposition technique for the hybrid simulation of dilute polymer solution flows using Eulerian Brownian dynamics and Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFN) based methods. The Brownian Configuration Fields (BCF) and RBFN method incorporates the features of the BCF scheme (which render both closed form constitutive equations and a particle tracking process unnecessary) and a mesh-less method (which eliminates element-based discretisation of domains). However, when dealing with large scale problems, there appear several difficulties: the high computational time associated with the Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST), and the ill-condition of the system matrix associated with the RBFN. One way to overcome these disadvantages is to use parallel domain decomposition (DD) techniques. This approach makes the BCF-RBFN method more suitable for large scale problems.

  • For predicting the performances of the four stroke cycle spark ignition engines. the gas behavior in the engine system has been analyzed. The calculations consist of two parts. the calculation of the gas behavior in the intake and exhaust systems which was described in the first paper, and the calculation of the variations of gas properties inside the engine cylinders. In this Paper the simulations for the in-cylinder processes were described for the MPI engine, naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines with a carburettor. With the combination of the calculations of the intake and exhaust systems and the calculation of the in-cylinder processes. the predictions of the engine Performances and the exhaust emission characteristics were carried out. And the result showed good agrements with the experimental results under wide range of operating conditions.

LNG-디젤 혼소엔진의 성능 및 실차 적용성 연구 (A Study on Vehicle Application and Performance of LNG-Diesel Dual Fuel Engine)

  • The electronically controlled diesel engine was converted to dual fuel engine system. Test engine was set up for investigating the power output, thermal efficiency and emissions. ND 13-mode tests were employed for the engine test cycle. The emission result of dual fuel mode meets Euro-4 (K2006) regulation and the engine performance of dual fuel engine was comparable to the performance of diesel engine. To estimate economical efficiency, test vehicles have been operated on a certain driving route repeatedly. Fuel economy, maximum driving distance per refueling and driveability were examined on the road including free ways. Developed vehicle can be operated over 500 km with dual fuel mode and shows 80% of diesel substitution ratio. Driveability of dual fuel mode is similar with that of diesel mode.

An Asynchronous Algorithm for Balancing Unpredictable Workload on Distributed-Memory Machines

  • It is challenging to parallelize problems with irregular computation and communication. In this paper, we propose an asynchronous algorithm for balancing unpredictable workload on distributed-memory machines. By using an initial workload estimate, we first partition the computations such that the workload is distributed evenly across the processors. In addition, we perform task migrations dynamically for adapting to the evolving workload. To demonstrate the usefulness of our load balancing strategy, we conducted experiments on an IBM SP2 and a Cray T3D. Experimental results show that our task migration strategy can balance unpredictable workload with little overhead. Our code using C and MPI is portable onto other distributed-memory machines.

  • A parallel implementation is made of a two-dimensional finite volume model based on the SIMPLER. The solution domain is decomposed into several subdomains and the solution at each subdomain is acquired by parallel use of multiple processors. Communications between processors are accomplished by using the standard MPI and the Cray-specific SHMEM. The parallelization method for the overall solution procedure to the Navier-Stokes equations is described in detail, The parallel implementation is validated on the Cray T3E system for a benchmark problem of natural convection in a sidewall-heated cavity. The parallel performance is assessed and the issues encountered in achieving a high-performance parallel model are elaborated.

  • 터보머신 태부에 존재하는 정익 - 동익의 상호작용 유동현상을 수치모사 하는 코드를 병렬화 하였다 정익 - 동익의 상호작용을 해석하는 데에 편리하도륵 Multi-Block Grid System을 도입하여 계산영역을 형성하였고, 동익의 움직임으로 인해 발생하는 Sliding Interface부분은 Patched 알고리즘을 적용하여 해석하였다. 정익과 동익의 수를 1대 1로 단순화시켜 수치모사한 결과와 정익과 동익의 수를 실제 조건과 더 비슷하게 설정한 3대 4의 비율로 맞추어 수치모사한 결과를 비교하였다. 또한, 병렬컴퓨팅으로 인해 단축된 계산시간을 다른 연구에서의 계산시간들과 서로 비교하였다. 2차원 비정상 압축성 Navier-Stokes 방정식이 이용되었고, 난류모델링에는 K-w SST 모델링이 적응되었다. Roe의 FDS 기법을 사용하여 플럭스를 계산하였고, MUSCL 기법을 적용하여 3차의 공간정확도를 갖도록 하였다. 시간적분에는 이보성의 DP-SGS를 사용하였다. 해석결과의 분석에는 Time-averaged pressure distribution과 Pressure amplitude distribution 데이터를 사용했다.

  • For simulation of three-dimensional turbulent flow with LES and DNS takes much time and expense with current available computing resources. It is nearly impossible to simulate turbulent flow with high Reynolds number. So, the emerging alternative is the Grid computing for needed computation power and working environment. In this study, the CFD code was parallelized to adapt it for the parallel computing under the Grid environment. In the first place, the Grid environment was built to connect the PC-Cluster facilities belong to the different institutions using communication network system. And CFD applications were calculated to check the performance of the parallel code developed for the Grid environment. Although it is a fundamental study, it brings about a important meaning as first step in research of the Grid.

  • The penetration depth and the size distribution of the droplets of fuel sprays are important in the operation of spark-ignition MPI engines. A fluorescence/scattering image technique for droplet sizing was applied to measure th edroplet size distribution in non-evaporating gasoline sprays. The fluorescence and scattering lights were imaged simultaneously by the two-dimensional visualization system composed of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and a CCD camera. Quantitative droplet size distributions were extracted from evaluating the ratio of the two light densities. The mean droplet size measured by the fluorescence/scattering technique was compared with the result obtained by the enlarged photographs of droplets. The fluorescence/scattering image technique also gives the useful information of the characteristics of droplet impingement in a inclined wall.

  • Gear rattle is a source of vibration and noise in automotive gearbox casing and generally occurs at or near system resonant frequencies. The neutral gear rattle of the gearbox. is affected by the stiffness and hysteresis torque in the clutch disk and drag torque determining balancing point of the clutch disk operating range. The experiment is carried out in the pre-damper type clutch and a manual transmission of a automobile equipped for inline four-sylinder four-cycle 1.5L MPI engine and the computer simulation is executed by 5th order Runge-Kutta method. The results of the simulation analysis and experimental studies show the dynamic behavior of clutch and a phenomenon of the neutral gear rattle with respect to drag torque and torsional characteristics of the clutch.
