Introduction of the Magnetic Pulse Compressor (MPC) - Fundamental Review and Practical Application

  • Magnetic switch is a kind of saturable inductor, which utilizes nonlinearity of the magnetization curve of ferromagnetic materials. The right understanding of the saturation phenomena, magnetic properties, voltage-time product, and switching characteristics of the magnetic switch is essential in designing the magnetic pulse compressor (MPC). In this paper, the historical background of research on the MPC, fundamental physical properties of the magnetic switches, and application fields of the MPC are presented. Further, an in-depth analysis of pulse compression in series and parallel MPCs is incorporated. As practical application examples, a series MPC used for water treatments and a parallel MPC used for pulsed electric field (PEF) inactivation of bacteria are cited.

  • It is well known that the metallo-phthalocyanines (MPcs) are sensitive to toxic gaseous molecules such as NO$_2$ and also chemically and thermally stable and it is recently reported that SnO$_2$ thin films have a selective sensitivity to NO$_2$ and SO$_2$ gas. Therefore, it is interesting to prepare phthalo-cyanine Langmuir-Boldgett(LB) films containing tin as a chemical sensor for NO$_2$ and SO$_2$ gas and test the selectivity with these tin containing LB films. First, in this study, ultra thin films of Octa (2-ethylhexyloxy) tin-phthalocyanine were prepared on various substrates by LB method. $\pi$-A isotherm and transfer characteristics of these films were investigated. The formation of these films was determined by ellipsometry. Intrinsic current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of these films were also measured.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method is one of the ways of fabricating organic ultra thin films. It is well known that It has the advantage to control the alignment and orientation of the molecules in the films. Metallo-phthalocyanines (MPcs) are sensitive to electron affinitive toxic gaseous molecules, such as $NO_2$, NO, $SO_2$. In this study, thin films of octa-dodecyloxy copper-phthalocyanine were prepared by LB method and characterized by using UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy and ellipsometry. Optimal transfer condition of LB films was investigated and preliminary results of current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of these films exposed to $NO_2$ gas as a function of film thickness.

21 cm signal from highly clustered Population III and Population II objects at high redshift

  • We present a prediction for 21cm differential brightness temperature (dTb) from a set of strongly clustered sources of Population III and II objects at high redshift, from a suite of numerical simulations of their formation and radiative processes. These objects are located inside a highly biased density environment ("Rarepeak"), which is a rare, high-density peak which extends to ~7 comoving Mpcs. We study the impact on the resulting 21 cm signal from their ultraviolet and X-ray properties. The boost of emission (dTb>0) by high-density environment, moderate leakage of X-ray photons, and strong absorption due to Lyman-alpha pumping contrive to make Rarepeak a discernible, spatially-extended (sky angle~10') object around z~15, which is found to be detectable as a single object by Square Kilometre Array (SKA) with integration time of ~[600-2000] hours. We also examine detectability of many such peaks through SKA precursors.

Distributed Target Localization with Inaccurate Collaborative Sensors in Multipath Environments

  • Location-aware networks are of great importance for both civil lives and military applications. Methods based on line-of-sight (LOS) measurements suffer sever performance loss in harsh environments such as indoor scenarios, where sensors can receive both LOS and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) measurements. In this paper, we propose a data association (DA) process based on the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm, which enables us to exploit multipath components (MPCs). By setting the mapping relationship between the measurements and scatters as a latent variable, coefficients of the Gaussian mixture model are estimated. Moreover, considering the misalignment of sensor position, we propose a space-alternating generalized expectation maximization (SAGE)-based algorithms to jointly update the target localization and sensor position information. A two dimensional (2-D) circularly symmetric Gaussian distribution is employed to approximate the probability density function of the sensor's position uncertainty via the minimization of the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD), which enables us to calculate the expectation step with low computational complexity. Moreover, a distributed implementation is derived based on the average consensus method to improve the scalability of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed centralized and distributed algorithms can perform close to the Monte Carlo-based method with much lower communication overhead and computational complexity.

자동차 서스펜션 로워암의 모델링 보조시스템 개발 (Development of Modeling Support System for Lower Arm in Automobile Suspension Module)

  • In this study, the modeling support system was developed which can make easy and fast FE-modeling and verify the results of static and durability analysis for the lower arm, one of the important parts in automobile suspension module. It took into account of the whole complicated design processes verifying the durability coefficients evaluated by fatigue analysis, which should be used to satisfy a design criteria. To guide the FE-modeling the drive page was constructed by using HTML and XML, which was based on expert's know-hows. It is able to integrate the processes to design the lower arm in practice, so that the standardization of its FE-Modeling is achieved, consequently. The 3 dimensional CAD's geometrical data were changed automatically into pre-defined shell elements under the concept of mesh-offset technique, and then welding elements were treated to connect between target and basic surfaces constructed by the shell elements. This system has also a user interface to control boundary and load ing conditions applied in performing of the static and durability analysis, in which many load cases can be applied simply with the MPCs driven by just few mouse clicks. These were implemented on the platform of MSC.Patran and utilized ANSYS, MSC.Nastran and MSC.Fatigue as the solver of the analysis performed. The developed system brings not only significant decreasing of man-hours required in FE-modeling process, but also obtaining of satisfied qualities in analyzed results. It will be integrated in a part of virtual prototyping module of the developing e-engineering framework.

한국의 지역소비가 지역소득에 미치는 영향 분석 - 패널공적분에 의한 접근 - (On the Effect of Regional Consumption toward Regional Income in Korea - An Application of Panel Cointegration -)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라의 지역 소비지출이 지역소득 증대에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위한 것이다. 실증분석을 위한 계량경제기법으로는 패널공적분, 합리적기대 및 FM-OLS 공적분추정법을 적용하였는데 그 결과에 의하면 지역소득이 현재의 지역소비 뿐만 아니라 전기의 지역소득과 정(+)의 관계를 유지하고 있어서 수요측면을 활용한 지역소득 증대의 가능성을 시사하고 있다. 시도별 한계소비성향과 지출승수에 의하면 한계소비성향의 상위그룹은 지역 소비지출을 증가시킬 경우 지출승수 효과에 의해 지역내총생산이 증대되는 반면, 중위 및 하위그룹에서는 그 효과가 미미하거나 지역내총생산이 오히려 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이와 같은 현상을 해소하기 위해서는 지역경제의 운용에 있어서 시장기능을 강화하고 지역 소비지출의 확대를 통한 지역소득 창출체계의 구축이 선행되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

부분동형암호와 외부서버를 이용한 효율적인 다자간 연산 기법 (Efficient Outsourced Multiparty Computations Based on Partially Homomorphic Encryption)

  • MPC(multiparty computation) 프로토콜이란 다수의 사용자가 각각 데이터를 제공하고, 이를 이용하여 협력적으로 연산을 수행하는 기법이다. 기존의 MPC 프로토콜은 사용자 사이의 상호작용에 의존했기 때문에, 연산이 끝날 때까지 모든 사용자가 온라인 상태를 유지해야 했다. 이를 개선하기 위한 연구 중 하나로서, 공모하지 않은 두 서버에 연산을 위임하는 기법이 연구되고 있다. 사용자의 참여를 완전히 배제한 최초의 기법이 Peter 등에 의해 제안되었으나, 서버 간 통신량이 매우 높다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 Peter 등의 기법에서 문제가 되었던 서버 간 통신량을 PRE(proxy re-encryption)를 이용하여 개선하였다. 제안하는 기법과 유사한 기법이 두 차례 제안되었으나, 복호화 과정에서 이산대수 문제를 해결해야 하거나, 서버와 사용자 사이의 공모공격에 취약한 등 다양한 문제점이 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 기존 기법의 문제점을 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 안전하고 효율적인 MPC 프로토콜을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 PRE를 이용하여 서버 간 통신량을 낮추었으며, 연산과정에서 사용자의 참여를 완전히 배제하였고, 복호화 과정에서 이산대수문제를 풀지 않고도 연산결과를 얻을 수 있다.

사람 제대혈 유래 간엽줄기세포로부터 연골세포 분화 (Chondrogenesis of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Human Umbilical Cord Blood)

  • 본 연구에서는 사람 제대혈로부터 간엽줄기세포를 분리하고, 이들을 체외에서 다량 증식시키며, 나아가 이들 간엽줄기세포를 특정한 세포로 분화시키고자 하였다. 사람의 제대혈로부터 단핵세포를 Ficoll-density gradient 법으로 분리하고, 이를 10% 우태아혈청, L-glutamnie, 및 항생제가 첨가된 DMEM 배양액과 Keratinocyte 배양액으로 $37^{\circ}C$ 5% $CO_2$ 배양조건에서 계대배양으로 증식시키고 현미경으로 줄기세포의 발달과 형태학적 성상을 확인하였으며, PAS 염색 및 PACS 분석으로 간엽줄기세포임을 확인하였다. 이들은 체외에서 연골세포로 분화를 유도하였고, 이들 분화된 줄기세포는 면역조직화학적 검사법으로 연골세포 특이 물질에 대한 Safranin O 염색법 및 Type II collagen 염색법을 실시하여 이들의 발현을 확인하였으며 RT-PCR을 실시하여 특이 mRNA 발현을 확인함으로서 연골세포로 분화된 것임을 확인하였다.
