  • This paper proposes a simultaneous control of frequency deviation and electric vehicles (EVs) battery state of charge (SOC) using load frequency control (LFC) and EV controllers. In order to provide both frequency stabilization and SOC schedule near optimal performance within the whole operating regions, a multiple-input multiple-output model predictive control (MIMO-MPC) is employed for the coordination of LFC and EV controllers. The MIMO-MPC is an effective model-based prediction which calculates future control signals by an optimization of quadratic programming based on the plant model, past manipulate, measured disturbance, and control signals. By optimizing the input and output weights of the MIMO-MPC using particle swarm optimization (PSO), the optimal MIMO-MPC for simultaneous control of the LFC and EVs, is able to stabilize the frequency fluctuation and maintain the desired battery SOC at the certain time, effectively. Simulation study in a two-area interconnected power system with wind farms shows the effectiveness of the proposed MIMO-MPC over the proportional integral (PI) controller and the decentralized vehicle to grid control (DVC) controller.

  • The MPC(Moisture Protected Computer) system is completely unique. It was recently invented in Korea and it is a technological break-through in the field of computer systems. It will be instrumental in the development of a complete moisture air-tight capability and will work well in field environments. The MPC includes the following: 1) An enclosed design. 2) Moisture proof computer enclosure joints. 3) System dust protection & an impact buffing system. 4) A normal temperature maintenance system when the temperature inside the computer is low. 5) The ability to generate heat and a radiate system inside the computer 6) An automatic power input sensing controller device. 7) A safety device in case of mis-operation. 8) A proper admission procedure for various tests. Because of the above, and as a result of temperature property experiments, there aren't any operational problems. The result of this treatise could provide very important data for verification of cases involving: using strong materials to protect against explosions, searching for ways to make the size and weight small, and for making repairs easier. As a result, it could achieve price and function competitiveness in advanced countries such as the USA and in Europe.

In this study we develope the radar signal processing system using MPC5775K that is specialized for high performance ADAS. That has special features for ADAS such as 10Msps 12bit ADC, 50MHz Radix-4 FFT, CTE(Cross Triggering Engine) for synchronized triggering between DAC and ADC. The baseband processing board is implemented and shows the result in Matlab.

  • The purpose of this study was to decrease the protein adsorption and improve the function of the hydrophobic acrylic Intraocular lens(IOL). Hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses were prepared by using ethyleneglycol phenyletheracrylate (EGPEA), styrene and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) were used as additives. Water contents, wettability, light transmittance and protein adsorption amount were measured to evaluate the physical properties of the intraocular lens. The water content and wettability of all samples containing additives were increased and the amount of protein adsorption decreased. In particular, samples containing MPC showed a further decrease in protein adsorption. The hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens with PVP and MPC was found to improve the function of the intraocular lens by reducing the protein adsorption while having basic physical properties.

  • Advanced control algorithms must be used to make wind power generation truly cost effective and reliable. In this study, we develop a new and simple control scheme that employs model predictive control (MPC), which is used in permanent magnet synchronous generators and grid-connected inverters. The proposed control law is based on two points, namely, MPC-based torque-current control loop is used for the generator-side converter to reach the maximum power point of the wind turbine, and MPC-based direct power control loop is used for the grid-side converter to satisfy the grid code and help improve system stability. Moreover, a simple prediction scheme is developed for the direct-drive wind energy conversion system (WECS) to reduce the computation burden for real-time applications. A small-scale WECS laboratory prototype is built and evaluated to verify the validity of the developed control methods. Acceptable results are obtained from the real-time implementation of the proposed MPC methods for WECS.

  • This paper proposes a new finite control set-model predictive control (FCS-MPC) method for induction motors. In the method, the reference state that satisfies the given torque and rotor flux requirements is derived. Cost indices for the FCS-MPC are defined using the state tracking error, and a linear matrix inequality is formulated to obtain a proper weighting matrix for the state tracking error. The on-line procedure of the proposed FCS-MPC comprises of two steps: select the output voltage vector of the two level inverter minimizing the cost index and compute the optimal modulation factor of the minimizing output voltage vector in order to reduce the state tracking error and torque ripple. The steady state tracking error is removed by using an integrator to adjust the reference state. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the proposed FCS-MPC shows good torque, rotor flux control performances at different rotating speeds.

  • In this paper, a voltage-based model predictive control (MPC) scheme for a modular multilevel converter is used to reduce switching loss. The proposed method calculates an offset voltage that clamps the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows at every sampling period by using the reference phase voltage and the reference phase current. To use the offset voltage, the proposed method converts the current-based MPC to the voltage-based MPC. The proposed voltage-based MPC then generates a new reference pole voltage that clamps the switching of submodules by applying the calculated offset voltage to the phase voltage. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the switching loss by stopping the switching operation of submodules in which the current greatly flows. The switching loss reduction effect of the proposed method is verified by comparing its loss data with those of the conventional MPC method.

  • This paper presents a theoretical study of a model predictive control (MPC) strategy employed in semi-active control system with magnetorheological (MR) dampers to reduce the responses of seismically excited structures. The MPC scheme is based on a prediction model of the system response to obtain the control actions by minimizing an objective function, which can compensate for the effect of time delay that occurred in real application. As an example, a 5-story building frame equipped with two 20 kN MR dampers is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed MPC scheme for addressing time delay and reducing the structural responses under different earthquakes, in which the predictive length l = 5 and the delayed time step d = 10, 20, 40, 60, 100 are considered. Comparison with passive-off, passive-on, and linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control strategy indicates that MPC scheme exhibits good control performance similar to the LQG control strategy, both have better control effectiveness than two passive control methods for most cases, and the MPC scheme used in semi-active control system show more effectiveness and robustness for addressing time delay and protecting structures during earthquakes.

  • This paper considers the model predictive control (MPC) problems in nonlinear processes or systems. The MPC method determines the control law such that the predicted output based on the identified process model is equal to the reference output which consists of both the process output at current time and the setting value called as the command generator. In this paper, the nonlinear MPC software for a chemical reactor is developed and analized from the point of view of practical applications.
