Wetland function assessment is not only a basic step to understand wetland ecosystems in detail but also an important process as a base of the term, ecosystem service to recognize wetland ecosystems as valuable and useful resources and goods for human being. WET (wetland evaluation technique), EMAP (environmental monitoring assessment program)-wetlands, and HGM (hydrogeomorphic method) were developed as pioneer wetland function assessments in U.S. at the end of $20^{th}$-century. RAMs (rapid assessment methods) became a major function assessment tool which is relatively simpler and easier assessment tool at the beginning of $21^{th}$-century. After that, the hierarchy of three levels of assessment (landscape assessment, rapid assessment, and intensive assesment) has been prepared and strategically utilized according to the objectives and purposes of function assessments. In South Korea, RAM and HGM were used to assess wetland functions with reforming a couple of items and contents at 2001. And, modified and reformed function assessments have been developed to complement and improve upon the existing RAMs and HGMs. Via the trend analysis on wetland function assessments, some needs which require supplements in terms of function assessment are pointed out: 1) wetland function assessments using useful indicators such as birds are needed with considering our environmental characteristics. 2) optimized wetland function assessments for coastal wetlands are also needed. 3) the network construction and further expansion to lead communications and co-operations between researchers and policy makers is needed in the field of wetland function assessment.

This study presents the visualization of shape information based on Octree using 3D laser scanning. The process of visualization was established to construct the Octree structure from the 3D scan data. The scan data was converted to a 2D surface through the mesh technique and the surface was then converted to a 3D object through the Raster/Vector transformation. The 3D object was transmitted to the Octree Root Node and The shape information was constructed by the recursive partitioning of the Octree Root Node. The test-bed was selected as the steel bridge structure in Sungkyunkwan University. The shape information based on Octree was condensed into 89.3%. In addition, the Octree compressibility was confirmed to compare the shape information of the office building, a computer science campus in Germany and a New College in USA. The basis is created by the visualization of shape information for double-deck tunnel and it will be expected to improve the efficiency of structural health monitoring and maintenance.

In accordance with the increasing possibility that the new and reoccurring epidemics continuously appearing abroad flow into Korea, it is very important to evaluate the efficiency of quarantine management projects of National Quarantine Station. This study adopted the pairwise comparison approach using the analytical hierarchy process(AHP) that has been recognized with its scientific adequacy for allocating the weight, the relative importance of evaluation components. AHP technique is evaluated to be distinguished in measuring the impact by making hierarchy of, simplifying and systemizing the complicated multi-criteria decision making problems. The weights by evaluation indexes were 0.2 in the organization evaluation field and 0.8 in the service and program field. The quarantine business showed the highest value, 0.45, in the service and program field. The indexes were classified into the upper category (organization evaluation field, service and program evaluation field) and lower category (input/process/result/quarantine field, inspection field, hygiene management field, pathogenic organ investigation and monitoring field, epidemics prevention promotion/education field). The evaluation indexes that were finally selected were applied to the actual businesses in National Quarantine Station. Next, the minimum evaluation indexes were selected and so the evaluation system on the businesses in National Quarantine Station was more systemized.

The object segmentation approach has the merit of reducing the processing cost required to detect moths of interest, because it applies a moth detection algorithm to the segmented objects after segmenting the objects individually in the moth image. In this paper, an object segmentation method for moth detection in pheromone trap images is proposed. Our method consists of preprocessing, thresholding, morphological filtering, and object labeling processes. Thresholding in the process is a critical step significantly influencing the performance of object segmentation. The proposed method can threshold very elaborately by reflecting the local properties of the moth images. We performed thresholding using global and local versions of Ostu's method and, used the proposed method for the moth images of Carposina sasakii acquired on a pheromone trap placed in an orchard. It was demonstrated that the proposed method could reflect the properties of light and background on the moth images. Also, we performed object segmentation and moth classification for Carposina sasakii images, where the latter process used an SVM classifier with training and classification steps. In the experiments, the proposed method performed the detection of Carposina sasakii for 10 moth images and achieved an average detection rate of 95% of them. Therefore, it was shown that the proposed technique is an effective monitoring method of Carposina sasakii in an orchard.

A new technique was proposed for the determination of alkylphenols, chlorophenols and bisphenol A in korean aquatic biological samples. The alkylphenols, chlorophenols and bisphenol A in korean aquatic biological samples were extracted with acetonitrile and then acetonitrile layer was refrigerated at $-60^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours(freezing filtration method). Also, solid-phase extraction(SPE) was used to XAD-4 and subsequent conversion to isobutoxycarbonyl(isoBOC) or tert-butyldimethylsilyl(TBDMS) derivatives for sensitive analysis with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring(GC/MS-SIM) mode. For isoBOC derivatization and TBDMS derivatization the recoveries were $70.1\sim150.6%$ and $93.8\sim108.3%$, the method detection limit(MDLs) of bisphenol A for SIM were $0.062{\mu}g/kg$ and $0.010{\mu}g/kg$, and the SIM respectively. When these methods were applied to korean aquatic biological samples, the concentrations of the 11 phenolic EDCs were $0.675\sim1.970{\mu}g/kg$.

Purpose: The Gated cardiac blood pool scan is non-invasive method that a quantitative evaluation of left ventricular function. Also this scan have shown the value of radionuclide ejection fraction measurements during the course of chemotherapy as a predictor of cardiac toxicity. Therefore a reliable method of monitoring its cardiotoxic effects is necessary. the purpose of this study is to minimize the overestimate of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) by modified body position to reduce the influence of scattered rays from surrounding organs of the heart in the background region of interest. Materials and Methods: Gated cardiac blood pool scan using in vivo $^{99m}Tc$-red blood cell (RBC) was carried out in 20 patients (mean $44.8{\pm}8.6$ yr) with chemotherapy for a breast carcinoma. Data acquisition requires about 600 seconds and 24 frames of one heart cycle by the multigated acquisition mode, Synchronization deteriorates toward the end of the cycle and with the distance from the trigger signal (R-wave) by ECG gating. Gated cardiac blood pool scan was studied with conventional method (supine position and the detector head in $30-45^{\circ}$ left anterior oblique position and caudal $10-20^{\circ}$ tilt) and compared with modified method (left lateral flexion position with 360 mL of drinking water). LVEF analysis was performed by using the automatically computer mode. Results: The ROI counts of modified scan method were lower than LV conventional method ($1429{\pm}251$ versus $1853{\pm}243$, <0.01). And LVEF of modified method was also decrease compared with conventional method ($58.3{\pm}5.6%$ versus $65.3{\pm}6.1%$, <0.01). Imaging analysis indicated that stomach was expanded because of water and spleen position was changed to lateral inferior compared with conventional method. Conclusion: This study shows that the modified method in MUGA reduce the influence of scattered rays from surrounding organs. Because after change the body position to left lateral flexion and drinking water, the location of spleen, left lobe of liver and stomach had changed and they could escaped from background ROI. Therefore, modified method could help to minimize the overestimate LVEF (%).
In this study, we was measured the radiance reflectance by using multi-spectral image of low resolution camera(LRC) which will be loaded in the multi-purpose satellite(KOMPSAT) to use the data in analyzing water pollution. Also we investigated the possibility of extraction of water quality factors in rivers and water body by using high resolution remote sensing data such as Airborne MSS. Especially, we tried to extract the environmental factors related with eutrophication, and also tried to develop the process technique and the radiance feature of reflectance related with eutrophication. The results were summarized as follows: First, the spectrum of sun's rays which reaches the surface of the earth was consistent with visible rays bands of 0.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$~0.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and about 50% of total quantity of radiation were there. And at around 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of green spectral band in visible rays bands, the spectrum was highest. Second, as a result of the radiance reflectance Chlorophyll-a represented high spectral reflectance mainly around 0.52${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of green spectral band, and suspended sediments and turbidity represented high spectral reflectance at 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and at 0.57${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ each. Third, as a result of the water quality analysis by using Airborne MSS, Chlorophyll-a could have a distribution chart when carried out ratio of B3 and BS to B7. And Band 7 was useful for making the distribution chart of suspended sediments. And when we carried out PCA, suspended sediments and turbidity had distributions at PC 1 , PC 4 each similarly to ground truth data. Above results can be changed according to the change of season and time. Therefore, in order to analyze more exactly the environmental factors of water quality by using LRC data, we need to investigate constantly the ground truth data and the radiance feature of reflectance of water body. Afterward in this study, we will constantly analyze the radiance feature of the surface of water in water body by measuring the on-the-spot radiance reflectance and using low resolution satellite image(SeaWiFs). Besides, we will gather the data of water quality analysis in water body and analyze the pattern of water pollution.
This study was carried out in Osan river to quantitatively investigate behavior of attacked microbial community (AMC) for enhancing self-purification process of river. We gained the results such as follows throughout long-term monitoring at in-situ river. The biomass of AMC had higher in the riffle than the almost stagnant pool and they were more developed in the riffle with high current velocity (HCV). Although the fast flowing current affects negatively to growth of the AMC during the early phase when the community gets attached to the benthic substrate, it was observed that it affected positively to their growth during the intermediate and later phase after the community is adapted to the substrate. When turbulence due to external pressure (storm or discharge of dam and reservoir) occurs, the degree of separation depends upon the flowing strength and the type of the external pressure. Since the community is not all separated, recovery is rather fast. Therefore, this study found that the degree of reduction of the pollutant by self-purification of the stream is depended upon the riverbed shape and the AMC contributes to self-purification positively or negatively in river. Therefore, the riverbed shape must be constructed in accordance with the characteristics of water quality in stream. Furthermore, the technique of installing the water channel structure appropriate for each section must be developed to maximize self-purification ability.
This experiment was conducted to verify the responses of major crop species to saline stress. To determine the saline tolerance of crop species, sevral crop species were cultivated under sand-culture system using Hoagland's nutrient solution whit 200mM NaCl. The crop species showing saline tolerance were cotton(Gossypium indicum), maize(Zea mays), barely(Hordeum vulgare), and wheat(Triticum aestivum) but perilla (Perilla frutescens) and leguminous crops, mung bean(Phaseolus radiatus), azuki bean(Phaseolus angularis) and soy bean(Glycin max) showed very por tolerance. One the typical symptom was the darkening of leaf color due to increase of chlorophyll concentration.Among of the plant families, Fabaceae was the most susceptible but crop species belonging to Poaceae were more proper for cultivating on reclaimed tidal land in the course of desalinazation. It was suggrsted that the crop species belonging to Fabaceae, a sensitive family to soil salinity, must be cultivated when the soil salinity decreased below 10ds/m. To know the critical salinity level for crop growth, salinity of saline soil collected from reclaimed tidal land was adjusted from 10.0ds/m tp41.7ds/m with tap water. It was suggested that the ECs of the soil in which the plant height of each crop spicies was reduced to 50% of control plant were 22.6 and 21.7 ds/m in rice, barley, corn, mung bean, and soy bean, respectively.
This experiment was conducted to classify the plant species occurring in the saline reclaimed land by saline tolerance. The vegetation of reclaimed land was composed of various plant species from halophyte to glycophyte showing different saline tolerances. In the investigated saline region, reclaimed land of Youngjong island, Inchun city, 175 species belonging to 32 families were found. Our survey was carried out in two region, having different salinity due to different desalinization. The electricalconductivity (EC) of more saline region showed 48.0mS/cm nd the other region showed 13.0mS/cm. It is assumed that intensity of precipitation and runoff of rainfall may cause salinity gradient in the investigated region. The plant species occurred in the experimental region were classified as 72 species of annual, 42 species of biennial, and 61 species of perennial according to life cycle. For knowing relationship between vegetation of saline region and saline tolerance of occurring species, we tested the saline susceptibility of plant species collected at the saline regions. Testing plants were cultured by nutrient solution containing 200 mM NaCl, the critical concentration of survival in glycophytes. The saline tolerance was graded by the growing capacity in the sand-culture system. The more saline-tolerant species screened by sand culture were Atriplex gmelini, Suaeda asparagoides, Aster tripolium, Suaeda maritima, Salicornia herbacea, and Suaeda japonica. The most saline tolerant family was Chenopodiaceae. Poaceae, Cyperaceae, and Brassicaceae showed relatively high tolerance to saline stress. In the course of growth under the high saline condition, the most noticeable change was the darkening of leaves by increasing of chlorophyll content. The chlorophyll contents were increased with saline stress in most species.
