Interactive Technology: Soft Engineering

  • Recent paradigm in technology shifts from object-based technology to environment-based technology. Issue here is interaction among human, machines, and environment. This requires new interpretations for the space among them. Holistic interactions based on “Mom (embodiment)” suggest a good starting point for this endeavor. The past, present, future of technology are presented in terms of technology’s fundamental virtue: “humanizing technology” or “technology serving human.” Interactive technology initiative (ITI) is an interdisciplinary research group to search for the proper technology and the proper way of implementing technology: “interactive technology” or “soft engineering.” Some experimental activities conducted by ITI are presented in this organized session, “Interactive Technology.” Metatechnology, soft engineering, “Mom (embodiment),” holistic interactions, tangible space, and ubiquitous computing are key concepts in interactive technology.

  • 유비쿼터스 환경에서 쓰이는 많은 미들웨어 중에서 메시지 기반 미들웨어(MOM: Message oriented Middleware)는 대용량 통신 처리와 비동기 통신, 고가용성으로 인하여 널리 쓰이고 있다. 하지만 이러한 MOM 들은 이벤트 손실에 대한 문제점을 안고 있다. 본 논문에서는 MOM 내에 있는 마스터 큐에서 발생하는 이벤트 손실 문제를 해결하기 위하여 마스터 큐에 이벤트 적재 시간을 조절하는 지연시간을 추가하는 기술을 제안한다. 지연시간은 최적의 값을 계산하기 위해서 다양한 요소들을 변수로 둔다. 그리고 지연시간 추가로 인한 성능저하를 새로운 채널 생성하여 보완한다. 제안하는 방법을 몇 가지 가정을 포함한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 측정, 평가 하였다.

  • 본 논문은 전자기파 신호 계산에 있어 하이브리드 방식의 기저 함수로써 Gaussian 함수를 제안하고자 한다. 하이브리드 방식은 전반부 시간 및 낮은 주파수 데이터를 이용하여 후반부 시간 및 높은 주파수 데이터를 구하는 방식이다. 시간을 이용한 MOT, 주파수를 이용한 MOM 방식의 장점만을 가져오기 때문에 전자기 분석 데이터를 구하기 위한 시간이 감소되며 오차가 적다는 장점이 있다. 이를 위해서는 기저 함수를 필요로 하며 Hermite, Laguerre를 기저 함수로 사용한 기존의 방법과의 비교를 통해 제안된 방법의 성능을 확인하였다.

  • There are a lot of shopping malls in Internet and most of consumers want to buy good goods in cheap price through the shopping malls. To support them, many sites for price comparison are constructed. But man or woman search many shopping malls and insert their price informations into database that the price comparison sites own. To overcome this disadvantage, virtual shopping malls are builded. These virtual shopping malls are connected and cooperated a lot of affiliated existing shopping malls for the cheapest price information. But, these virtual shopping mall are connected to those existing shopping malls in synchronous. So If they are connected to many existing shopping malls, we have to wait long time because of searching for many existing shopping malls. In this paper, we designed and implemented a virtual shopping mall that connect to many existing shopping malls in asynchronous. For a asynchronous communication between this virtual shopping mall and many existing shopping malls, we used JMS (Java Message Service) that is a standard Java API for MOM (Message-Oriented Middleware).

  • A new paradigm of technology, based on an interaction o( machines, humans and the environment through korperlichkeit(corporeality or philosophy of Mom), is explored. The issue of interactivity in contemporary art plays a key role in the investigation of interactive technology. An interactive system is proposed and implemented to explore the Proposed interactive technology Paradigm. Also, recent collaborations by ASTA(Arts, Sciences St Technology in Asia), an interdisciplinary project team of artists and engineers, are introduced to demonstrate these explorations.

  • A new paradigm of technology, based on the overall interactions of technology, humans and environment through Korperlichkeit(corporeality or philosophy of Mom), is explored. Parallelism based on holism and embodiment, and relative interactions based on correspondence and interrelationships, are the key ideas in the proposed paradigm. Biological information processing systems much resemble the key ideas of interactive technology. Robots could be easily implemented from this evolutionary engineering approach.

Influence of Drying Temperature and Duration on the Quantification of Particulate Organic Matter

  • Various drying conditions, temperatures (40 to $80^{\circ}C$) and durations (overnight to 72 hrs), for the particulate organic matter (POM) fraction after wet-sieving size fractionation have been applied for determination of POM contents in the weight loss-on-ignition method. In this study, we investigated the optimum drying condition for POM fraction in quantification of POM and/or mineral-associated organic matter (MOM; usually indirectly estimated). The influence of the drying conditions on quantifying POM was dependent upon soil properties, especially the amount of soil organic components. In relatively high organic soils (total carbon > 40 g/kg in this study), the POM values were significantly higher (overestimated) with drying at $55^{\circ}C$ than those values at $105^{\circ}C$, which were, for example, 173.2 and 137.3 mg/kg, respectively, in a soil studied. However, drying at $55^{\circ}C$ for longer than 48 hrs of periods produced consistent POM values even though the values were much higher than those at $105^{\circ}C$. Thus, indirect estimates of MOM (MOM = SOM-POM) also tended to be significantly impacted by the dry conditions. Therefore, we suggest POM fractions should be dried at $105^{\circ}C$ for 24 hrs as determining POM and MOM contents. If the POM traction is needed to be dried at a lower temperature (e.g. $55^{\circ}C$) with a specific reason, at least 48 hrs of drying period is necessary to obtain consistent POM values, and a moisture correction factor should be determined to adjust the values back to a $105^{\circ}C$ weight basis.

  • 기존의 직업탐색이론을 한 단계 진전시킬 수 있는 '엄친아효과' 개념을 도입하고 그것이 청년층 미취업탈출확률에 미치는 효과를 부모님의 학력, 임시 일용직 비율, 대 중소기업 임금격차 비율 등의 대리변수들로 측정하고자 하였다. 추정 결과, 최근으로 올수록 소위 '엄친아효과'는 점차 강화되고 있다는 사실이 확인된다. 정책 함의로는 청년층의 구직기간 축소와 실업탈출 확률의 제고라는 측면에서 노동시장에서 임금이나 일자리 질의 격차가 계속 확대되는 것은 결코 바람직하지 못하며, 또한 청년층 실업문제가 단순히 노동시장 정보의 정확한 제공만으로는 쉽게 해결되기 어렵다는 점 등을 도출해 낼 수 있다.
