  • In this paper, we propose subregion-based area of interest management techniques for MMORPG(massively multiplayer online role playing games) integrating P2P(peer-to-peer) networking and cloud computing. For the crowded region, the proposed techniques partition it into several subregions and assign a player to manage each subregion as a coordinator. These techniques include a load balancing mechanism which regulates communication and computation overhead of such player below the specified threshold. We also provide a mechanism for satisfying the criterion, where subregions overlapped with each player's view must be switched quickly and seamlessly as the view moves around in the game world. In the proposed techniques where an efficient provisioning of resources is realized, they relieve a lot of computational power and network traffic, the load on the servers in the cloud by exploiting the capacity of the players effectively. Simulation results show that the MMORPG based on cloud and P2P architecture can reduce the considerable bandwidth at the server compared to the client server architecture as the available resources grow with the number of players in crowding or hotspots.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient method for simulating massively virtual clients in an online game environment. Massively multi-player online games and other multi-user based networked applications are becoming more attractive to the gamer players. Such kind of technology has long been researched in the area called Networked Virtual Environments. In the game development process, a set of beta tests is used to ensure the stability of online game servers. A set of testing processes consumesa lot of development resources such as cost, time, and etc. The purpose of VENUS system is to provide an automated beta test environment to the game developers to efficiently test the online games to reduce development resources.

  • OlineGame Player suffers very big impact in environment of game World. Therefore, physical environment that is embodied to Gameworld is truth and immersion important element that experience to Player. Also, Game-System that embodied physical environment influences in Game Play can give more game player truth and immersion. I mainly MMORPG that is serviced present in this study investigated. 'What earth habitat factor was embodied and What influence does embodied earth habit at factor exert on game play'. I searched what problem is to design game system that do earth environment simulation. And I asserted development of environment information system to approach game system that do earth environment simulation by easier method. Environment information system is system that process status information of stand-by status, wind, wind speed, topography etc.. of game World.

  • Massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) is a common type of game these days. Predicting user churn in MMORPG is a crucial task. The retention rate of users is deeply associated with the lifespan and revenue of the service. If the churn of a specific user can be predicted in advance, targeted promotions can be used to encourage their stay. Therefore, not only the accuracy of churn prediction but also the speed at which signs of churn can be detected is important. In this paper, we propose methods to identify early signs of churn by utilizing the daily predicted user retention probabilities. We train various deep learning and machine learning models using log data and estimate user retention probabilities. By analyzing the change patterns in these probabilities, we provide empirical rules for early identification of users at high risk of churn. Performance evaluations confirm that our methodology is more effective at detecting high risk users than existing methods based on login days. Finally, we suggest novel methods for customized marketing strategies. For this purpose, we provide guidelines of the percentage of accessed users who are at risk of churn.

  • Security issues in online games are increasing as the online game industry grows. Real money trading (RMT) by online game users has become a security issue in several countries including Korea because RMT is related to criminal activities such as money laundering or tax evasion. RMT-related activities are done by professional work forces, namely gold-farmers, and many of them employ the automated program, bot, to gain cyber asset in a quick and efficient way. Online game companies try to prevent the activities of gold-farmers using game bots detection algorithm and block their accounts or IP addresses. However, game bot detection algorithm can detect a part of gold-farmer's network and IP address blocking also can be detoured easily by using the virtual private server or IP spoofing. In this paper, we propose a method to detect gold-farmer groups by analyzing their connection patterns to the online game servers, particularly information on their routing and source locations. We verified that the proposed method can reveal gold-farmers' group effectively by analyzing real data from the famous MMORPG.

  • In this paper, I propose a distributed game server system which has flexibility of enormous game character's processing in MMORPG using block scheme. I proposed game servers in distributed system grouped with zone which charge of each map, and the game servers in this zone divide game map into several unit blocks and process distributing blocks to game servers according to its performance. I proposed distributed game server system using block scheme can add/drop game map to/from easily through block process method in game and communication servers. Therefore, my proposed system can enormous character processing and add user created game map to existed game map easily in the future as well. Also, my scheme increases the system utilization and upgrades system stability by dynamic distribution of game map according to the number of characters and performance of servers.

  • The primary purposes of this study are to develop a Situated Learning Support System based on an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) and to investigate applications of Situated Learning theory both hypothetically and practically. In Situated Leaning theory, cognition is interpreted as a dynamic system related to situation, context and activity. According to this theory, learning context, social interaction and personal direct experience are also emphasized. A virtual reality learning system based on an MMORPG provides context, social interaction and a learning environment able to provide direct experiences. However, such a system has been difficult for teachers to develop. This study aims to develop a support system facilitating the construction of a Situated Learning System based on an MMORPG. This study proposes new research and practical applications of Situated Learning theory using educational games.

  • The research is a study on the effects of MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game) utilized in educational program. We investigated the possibilities of online game as an educational tool, especially in the field of economy education. Students have been taught market, price, profit, scarcity of goods etc., and then they played an online game we provided. Students manufactured cyber goods and also sold or bought various materials to maximize their profits. A experimental group was compared with a control group on measures of economic self-efficacy, motivation for economic learning, and attitude for economic learning, economic self-efficacy and motivation for economic leaning scales consist of 2 factors and attitude for economic leaning consists of 1 factor. Participants were 5th grade elementary school students(experimental group: 154, control group: 158). After the experiment, students' self-efficacy and motivations for economy learning have increased significantly. It has been found that students understand more easily the difficult economic terms such as' inflation', 'price setting', 'scarcity of goods etc. Their motivations for economy learning also increased significantly. This result indicates that online games have the potentiality that can be utilized as an educational tool.

  • This study analyzed a total of 1,025 quests in the 'Warlords of Draenor' which is the fifth expansion set to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft, by dividing them into violent and nonviolent quests. There was a total of 515 nonviolent quests which can be categorized into 46 types and a total of 510 violent quests that can be categorized into 7 types. The balance between violent and nonviolent quests shows that the game makers limited the number of adverse factors that can cause the players to be excessively absorbed in the game while successfully incorporating factors that can have positive effect on game players.
