A meso-urban meteorological model (Urbanized MM5; uMM5) with urban canopy parameterization (UCP) was applied to the high-resolution simulation of meteorological fields in a complex coastal urban area and the assessment of urban impacts. Multi-scale simulations with the uMM5 in the innermost domain (1-km resolution) covering the Busan metropolitan region were performed during a typical sea breeze episode (4~8 August 2006) with detailed fine-resolution inputs (urban morphology, land-use/land-cover sub-grid distribution, and high-quality digital elevation model data sets). An additional simulation using the standard MM5 was also conducted to identify the effects of urban surface properties under urban meteorological conditions. Results showed that the uMM5 reproduced well the urban thermal and dynamic environment and captured well the observed feature of sea breeze. When comparison with simulations of the standard MM5, it was found that the uMM5 better reproduced urban impacts on temperature (especially at nighttime) and urban wind flows: roughness-induced deceleration and UHI (Urban Heat Island)-induced convergence.
To evaluate high-resolution wind resources for local and coastal area with complex terrain was attemped to combine the prognostic MM5 mesoscale model with CALMET diagnostic modeling this study. Firstly, MM5 was simulated for 1km resolution, nested fine domain, with FDDA using QuikSCAT seawinds data was employed to improve initial meteorological fields. Wind field and other meteorological variables from MM5 with all vertical levels used as initial guess field for CALMET. And 5 surface and 1 radio sonde observation data is performed objective analysis whole domain cells. Initial and boundary condition are given by 3 hourly RDAPS data of KMA in prognostic MM5 simulation. Geophysical data was used high-resolution terrain elevation and land cover(30 seconds) data from USGS with MM5 simulation. On the other hand SRTM 90m resolution and EGIS 30m landuse was adopted for CALMET diagnostic simulation. The simulation was performed on whole year for 2007. Vertical wind field a hour from CALMET and latest results of MM5 simulation was comparison with wind profiler(KEOP-2007 campaign) data at HAENAM site.
Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the air flow characteristics in a plant factory with different inlet and outlet locations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Methods: In this study, the flow was assumed to be a steady-state, incompressible, and three-dimensional turbulent flow. A realizable k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulent model was applied to show more reasonable results than the standard model. A CFD software was used to perform the numerical simulation. For validation of the simulation model, a prototype plant factory ($5,900mm{\times}2,800mm{\times}2,400mm$) was constructed with two inlets (${\Phi}250mm$) and one outlet ($710mm{\times}290mm$), located on the top side wall. For the simulation model, the average air current speed at the inlet was $5.11m{\cdot}s^{-1}$. Five cases were simulated to predict the airflow pattern in the plant factory with different inlet and outlet locations. Results: The root mean square error of measured and simulated air current speeds was 13%. The error was attributed to the assumptions applied to mathematical modelling and to the magnitude of the air current speed measured at the inlet. However, the measured and predicted airflow distributions of the plant factory exhibited similar patterns. When the inlets were located at the center of the side wall, the average air current speed in the plant factory was increased but the spatial uniformity was lowered. In contrast, if the inlets were located on the ceiling, the average air current speed was lowered but the uniformity was improved. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, it was concluded that the airflow pattern in the plant factory with multilayer cultivation shelves was greatly affected by the locations of the inlet and the outlet.
The 3-D $31.5$\times$31.5$\times$2.5mm$^3$model of contour vibration mode piezoelectric transformer with Pb($Ni_{1/2}$$W_{1/2}$)$O_3$-Pb(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ ceramics was simulated by ANSYS according to the dot size 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 $mm\phi$ and analyzed the results. The mechanical quality factor of the 3-D model was decreased with the dot size and increased as 2605 at 20 $mm\phi$ and after then decreased again. The output voltage of that sample was 74123 [V] and the maximum stress of the dot electrode at that sample was 288[$10^7$N/$m^2$] and the maximum displacement of the ring electrode at that sample was 128 [$\mu\textrm{m}$].
Alkali aggregate reaction affects numerous civil engineering structures and causes irreversible expansion and cracking. This work aims at developing model to predict the potential expansion of concrete containing alkali-reactive aggregates. First, the paper presents the experimental results concerning the influence of particle size of an alkali-reactive aggregate on mortar expansion studied at 0.15-0.80 mm, 1.25-2.50 mm and 2.5-5.0 mm size fractions and gives data necessary for model development. Results show that no expansion was measured on the mortars using small particles (0.15-0.80 mm) while the particles (1.25-2.50 mm) gave the largest expansions. Finally, model is proposed to simulate the experimental results by studying correlations between the measured expansions and the size of aggregates and to calculate the thickness of the porous zone necessary to take again all the volume of the gel created by this chemical reaction.
Dynamic behaviours of reinforced concrete (RC) bending beams subjected to monotonic loading with different loading rates were studied. A dynamic experiment was carried out with the electro-hydraulic servo system manufactured by MTS (Mechanical Testing and Simulation) Systems Corporation to study the effect of loading rates on the mechanical behaviours of RC beams. The monotonic displacement control loading, with loading rates of 0.1 mm/s, 0.5 mm/s, 1 mm/s, 5 mm/s and 10 mm/s, was imposed. According to the test results, the effects of loading rates on the failure model and load-displacement curve of RC beams were investigated. The influences of loading rates on the cracking, ultimate, yield and failure strengths and displacements, ductility and dissipated energy capability of RC beams were studied. Then, the three-dimensional finite element models of RC beams, with the rate-dependent DP (Drucker-Prager) model of concrete and three rate-dependent model of steel reinforcement, were described and verified using the experimental results. Finally, the dynamic mechanical behaviours and deformation behaviours of the numerical results were compared with those of the experimental results.
Mini-mill process which is one of the new steel -marking technologies to be able to produce the hot rolled coils by thin slab caster of ISP(In-Line Strip Production) type, will be completed in the Kwangyang Steel Works of POSCO in August, 1996, SEt-Up Model of finishing mill which consists of 5 stands is the most basic and essential in mini-mill plant. Therefore, the simulation program of Finishing-mill Set-Up model were developed in this research , using new temeprature prediction model, roll gap model and rolling physical model. Using the developed FSU program , pass schedules to produce the strips with target strip thickness of 1.8mm, 2.0mm, 2.3mm, 2.7mm an d3.0mm were also determined respectively.
Neglecting the vertical transport from the surface, most of the previous studies on the long-range transport of pollutants have only considered the horizontal transport caused by the free atmosphere wind. I used a three dimensional numerical model, MM5 (The fifth generation Penn State Univ./NCAR Mesoscale Model) for the simulation of vertical transport of pollutants and investigated the mechanism of the vertical transport of atmospheric pollutants between planetary boundary layer(PBL) and free atmosphere by fronts. From the three dimensional simulation of MM5, the amount of pollutants transport from PBL to free atmosphere is 48% within 18 hour after the development of front, 55% within 24 hour, and 53% within 30 hour. The ratios of the vertically transported pollutant for different seasons are 62%, 60%, 54%, and 43% for spring, summer, fall, and winter, respectively. The most active areas for the vertical transport are the center of low pressure and the warm sector located east side of cold front, in which the strong upward motion slanted northward occurs. The horizontal advection of pollutants at the upper level is stronger than at the lower level simply because of the stronger wind speed. The simulation results shows the well known plum shape distribution of pollutants. The high concentration area is located in the center and north of the low pressure system, while the second highest concentration area is in the warm sector. It is shown that the most important mechanism for the vertical transport is vertical advection, while the vertical diffusion process plays an important role in the redistribution of pollutants in the PBL.
Porous medium was considered in the present study for the heat transfer enhancement. This was attributed to its high surface area to volume ratio as well as intensive flow mixing by tortuous flow passages. But when the air or water flow through in the porous medium, it is occurred the pressure drop between inlet and outlet. So in the present study investigated simulation result about the pressure drop in the porous medium before apply to heat exchanger. In this simulation, the thickness of the solid inside the porous medium region was varied 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm. And then the simulation result were compared the pressure drop in the same unit cell ($0.5\;mm{\times}0.5\;mm{\times}0.5\;mm$). To make the analysis model, it was assumed the 14-sided tetrakaidecahedron cell which has long been considered the optimal packing cell first proposed by the Lord Kelvin in 1887. And then the simulation is carried out using by STAR-CCM+ which is commercial software. The simulation result can be showed quantified pressure drop by solid effect in the porous medium.
The aim of this study is to estimate net irrigation requirements for red pepper during growing period using soil moisture model. The soil moisture model based on water balance approach simulates soil moisture contents of 4 soil layers in crop root zone considering soil moisture extraction pattern. The LAMP (Land-Atmosphere Modeling Package) high resolution meteorological data provided from National Center for AgroMeteorology (NCAM) was used to simulate soil moisture as the input weather data. Study area for the LAMP data and soil moisture simulation covers $36.92^{\circ}{\sim}37.40^{\circ}$ in latitude and $127.36^{\circ}{\sim}127.94^{\circ}$ in longitude. Soil moisture was monitored using FDR (Frequency Domain Reflectometry) sensors and the data were used to validate the simulation model from May 24 to October 20 in 2016. The results showed spatially detailed soil moisture pattern under different weather conditions and soil texture. Net irrigation requirements were also different by location reflecting the spatially distributed weather condition. The average of the requirements was 470.7 mm and averages about soil texture were 466.8 mm, 482.4 mm, 456.0 mm, 481.7 mm, and 465.6 mm for clay loam, sandy loam, silty clay loam, clay, and sand respectively. This study showed spatial differences of soil moisture and the irrigation requirements of red pepper about spatially uneven weather condition and soil texture. From the results, it was demonstrated that high resolution meteorological data could provide an opportunity of spatially different crop water requirement estimation during the irrigation management.
