  • QRS detection of ECG is the most popular and easy way to detect cardiac-disease. But it is difficult to analyze the ECG signal because of various noise types. The important problem in recording ECG signal is a baseline wandering, which is occurred by rhythm of respiration and muscle contraction attaching to an electrode. Particularly, in the healthcare system that must continuously monitor people's situation, it is necessary to process ECG signal in realtime. In other words, the design of algorithm that exactly detects QRS region using minimal computation by analyzing the person's physical condition and/or environment is needed. Therefore, baseline wander removing method based on morphological filter for efficient QRS detection method is presented in this paper. For this purpose, we detected QRS through the preprocessing method using morphological filter, adaptive threshold, and window. The signal distortion ratio of the proposed method is compared with other filtering method. Also, R wave detection is evaluated by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. Experiment result show that proposed method removes baseline wanders effectively without significant morphological distortion.

  • Research on how to use the biological characteristics of human to confirm the identity of the individual is being actively conducted. Electrocardiogram(: ECG) based biometric system is difficult to counterfeit and does not cause skin irritation on the subject. It can be easily combined with conventional biometrics such as fingerprint and face recognition to give multimodal biometric systems. In this thesis, biometric identification method analysing ECG waveform characteristics from Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) coefficients is suggested. Feature selection is performed on the 9 coefficients of DWT using the correlation analysis. The verification is achieved by using the error back propagation neural networks. Using the proposed approach on 24 subjects of MIT-BIH QT Database, 98.88% verification rate has been obtained.

  • This paper presents an approach to classify normal and arrhythmia from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database using Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) and neural network. In the first step, Discrete Cosine Transform is used to obtain the representative 15 coefficients for input features of neural network. In the second step, Discrete Wavelet Transform are used to extract maximum value, minimum value, mean value, variance, and standard deviation of detail coefficients. Neural network classifies normal and arrhythmia beats using 55 numbers of input features, and then the accuracy rate is 98.8%.

  • This paper presents an approach to detect premature ventricular contractions(PVC) using the neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions(NEWFM). NEWFM classifies normal and PVC beats by the trained weighted fuzzy membership functions using wavelet transformed coefficients extracted from the MIT-BIH PVC database. The two most important coefficients are selected by the non-overlap area distribution measurement method to minimize the classification rules that show PVC classification rate of 99.90%. By Presenting locations of the extracted two coefficients based on the R wave location, it is shown that PVC can be detected using only information of the two portions.

  • This paper proposed the method of removing baseline drift by eliminating local maxima such as P, R, T-wave signal region and local minima Q, S-wave signal region. We applied morphology-pair operations improved from morphology operation to the ECG signal. To eliminate overshoot in the result of morphology-pair operation, we apply median value operation to the result of morphology-pair operation. We use MIT/BIH database to estimate the proposed algorithm. Experiment result show that proposed algorithm removing baseline drift effectively without orignal ECG signal distortion.

  • This paper presents an approach to detect premature ventricular contractions(PVC) using the neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions(NEWFM), NEWFM classifies normal and PVC beats by the trained weighted fuzzy membership functions using wavelet transformed coefficients extracted from the MIT-BIH PVC database. The eight most important coefficients of d3 and d4 are selected by the non-overlap area distribution measurement method. The selected 8 coefficients are used for 3 data sets showing reliable accuracy rates 99,80%, 99,21%, and 98.78%, respectively, which means the selected input features are less dependent to the data sets. The ECG signal segments and fuzzy membership functions of the 8 coefficients enable input features to interpret explicitly.

  • This paper presents a new compression method (or ECG data using iterated contractive transformations. The method represents any range of ECG signal by piecewise self-afrine fractal Interpolation (PSAFI). The piecewise self-afrine rractal model is used where a discrete data set is viewed as being composed of contractive arfine transformation of pieces of itself. This algorithm was evaluated using MIT/BIH arrhythmia database. PSAFI is found to yield a relatively low reconstruction error for a given compression ratio than conventional direct compression methods. The compression ratio achieved was 883.9 bits per second (bps) - an average percent rms difference (AFRD) of 5.39 percent -with the original 12b ECG samples digitized at 400 Hz.

  • The baseline wander of ECG makes difficult to detect P-, Q-, R- and S-wave. This paper presents and compares two method to remove the baseline wander of ECG using slope traceing waves. For the first method that had been proposed already[1], the ascending slope tracing method is used to eliminate baseline wander. And the second method employs the contour of the approximated S-wave to remove baseline wander. These two methods are common to use the slope tracing wave. However, the first one is to get difference signals between the ascending tracing waves and ECG signals, and the other is to remove baseline wander using the contour of the approximated S-wave obtained from descending slope waves. To evaluate these methods, we apply to MIT/BIH database.

  • In this paper, we look into previous research in relation to each processing step for ECG diagnosis and propose detection and classification method of arrhythmia using rhythm features of ECG signal. Rhythm features for distribution of rhythm and heartbeat such as identity, regularity, etc. are extracted in feature extraction, and rhythm type is classified using rule-base constructed in advance for features of rhythm section in rhythm classification. Experimental results for all of rhythm types in the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database show detection performance of 100% for arrhythmia with only normal rhythm rule and applicability of classification for rhythm types with arrhythmia rhythm rules.

  • In this paper, we designed the models for pattern classification which can reflect the latest trend in time series. It has been shown that fusion models based on statistical and AI methods are superior to traditional ones for the pattern classification model supporting decision making. Especially, the hit rates of pattern classification models combined with fuzzy theory are relatively increased. The statistical SVM models combined with fuzzy membership function, or the models combining neural network and FCM has shown good performance. BPN, PNN, FNN, FCM, SVM, FSVM, Decision Tree, Time Series Analysis, and Regression Analysis were used for pattern classification models in the experiments of this paper. The economical indices DB with time series properties of the financial market(Korea, KOSPI200 DB) and the electrocardiogram DB of arrhythmia patients in hospital emergencies(USA, MIT-BIH DB) were used for data base.
