  • We applied the modified invasion percolation (MIP) model to the migration of DNAPL within a two-dimensional random fracture network. The MIP model was verified against laboratory experiments, which was conducted using a two-dimensional random fracture network model. The results showed that the MIP needs modification. To remove TCE trapped in a random fracture network, the density-surfactant-motivated removal method was applied and found very effective to remove TCE from dead-end fractures.

  • In this paper MIP(mean inventory period) Model and OMMIP decision flow have been developed. MIP model can calculate mean inventory period which is subject to the order quantity alternative plan. OMMIP decision flow leads how can decide the most minimized order quantity in mean inventory period among various order quantity alternatives. This paper also suggests how to select the order quantity with minimum inventory period as optimal order quantity by means of comparison each mean inventory period with other mean inventory period, after simulating EOQ and order quantity of OMMIP calculated in MIP model.

  • Recently, various research on the application of deep learning to video encoding for enhancing coding efficiency are being actively studied. This paper proposes a deep learning based intra prediction which uses multiple models by extending Matrix-based Intra Prediction(MIP) that is a neural network-based technology adopted in VVC. It also presents an efficient learning method for the multi-model intra prediction. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we integrated the VVC MIP and the proposed fully connected layer based multi-model intra prediction into HEVC reference software, HM16.19 as an additional intra prediction mode. As a result of the experiments, the proposed method can obtain bit-saving coding gain up to 0.47% and 0.19% BD-rate, respectively, compared to HM16.19 and VVC MIP.

  • ELECTRE IS requires the decision maker (DM) to specify several parameters such as weights, pseudo-criteria thresholds and the concordance level. Among these parameters, the concordance level has a significant effect on the outranking relation. And the number of alternatives selected may be sensitive to the value of these parameters. Therefore the DM may have to perform many iterations to obtain the desired number of alternatives in the kernel set. In this study, we developed a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model to elicit the concordance level and thereby to choose the desired number of alternatives in the kernel set. The MIP model can be applied in the interactive process so that the pseudo-criteria thresholds are adjusted according to the results of MIP model. Using the MIP model in the interactive process, we can reduce the number of iterations needed to perform ELECTRE IS.

  • Since the development of water resources is getting more difficult than ever before because of human-sociological condition, it would be necessary to develop a practically applicable technique for the management of water resources based on demand-side concept that could reduce unusable release for more effective and appropriate allocation of limited water resources. The objective of the study is to develop an optimal reservoir system operation model for water supply and energy augmentation by the combination of water budget analysis method in downstream area by MIP technique. The applicable study of the developed model was carried out and water supply capability of Nakdong river basin was re-evaluated by the developed model. The model has been found successful to guarantee appropriate water supply to the basin by means of deficit-supply management method and also turned out to be more practical tool for an optimal reservoir system operation model than other existing models.

  • Mobility support is one of the most important functions to provide seamless data transfer for real-time multimedia services in wireless networks. In this paper, we analyze and compare the handoff delay performances for several architectures such as MIP-RO, SIP, MIP-RO/CIP and SIP/CIP, which are expected to be a promising solution to support IP mobility management. For the analysis, we make the detailed message flows of those architectures in handoffs, and then make an analytical model to compute the handoff delay for each scheme. Numerical results showed that the SIP/CIP approach outperformed other schemes in the viewpoints of the handoff delay.

  • We consider influences of the aperture variation and the ambient groundwater flow on the migration of DNAPL within a fracture network. In context of a modified invasion percolation (MIP) growth algorithm, we formulate a mechanistic model that includes capillary and gravity forces as well as viscous forces within the DNAPL and the ambient groundwater. The MIP model is verified against laboratory experiments, which is conducted using a two-dimensional random fracture network model. The results show that the aperture variation and ambient groundwater flow can be significant factors controlling DNAPL migration path within fracture networks.

  • In this study, the pore structure of Portland cement paste is experimentally characterized by MIP (mercury intrusion porosimetry) and nitrogen adsorption, and simulated by a newly developed status-oriented computer model. Cement pastes with w/c=0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 at ages from 1 day to 120 days are comprehensively investigated. It is found that MIP cannot generate valid pore size distribution curves for cement paste. Nevertheless, nitrogen adsorption can give much more realistic pore size distribution curves of small capillary pores, and these curves follow the same distribution mode. While, large capillary pores can be effectively characterized by the newly developed computer model, and the validity of this model has been proved by BSE imaging plus image analysis. Based on the experimental findings and numerical simulation, a hypothesis is proposed to explain the formation mechanism of the capillary pore system, and the realistic representation of the pore structure of hydrated cement paste is established.

  • Mobile IP (MIP) and SIP are considered as important technologies to provide the macro mobility in the next generation mobile convergence networks which have heterogeneous access networks. Typically, MIP and SIP are more suitable for the non-real-time TCP connections and the real-time RTP/UDP sessions respectively, hence a handset which uses both of these sessions should simultaneously apply MIP and SIP to perform the efficient mobility management. Existing multi-layered mobility management schemes focus on the signalling order of each protocol. However, simple combining of two protocols cannot provide the performance enhancement of the mobility management. In this paper, a novel multi-layered mobility management algorithm using the combination of SIP and fast MIPv6 (FMIPv6) is proposed. FMIPv6 and SIP mobility is simultaneously performed to reduce the service interrupt time and to guarantee QoS requirement. The delay model is defined to analysis the performance of the algorithm and the simulation results show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • The paper deals with the development of a model for group decision making under multiple criteria. The Multi-criteria group decision making (MCGDM) is the process to determine the best compromise solution in a set of competing alternatives that are evaluated by decision makers having their own preferences on conflicting objectives. For MCGDM, we propose a Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP) model that implements a revised median approach by noticing that the original median approach cannot consider the willingness to reject and the indifferent preference conditions. The proposed MIP model tries to select a common best Pareto-optimal solution by maximizing the overall desirability considering the willingness to reject and the indifferent preference that represent the tolerance measure of each decision maker. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model, we compared the results of the proposed model with those of the median approach. The results showed that the proposed MIP model produces more realistic and better compromised alternative by incorporating the decision maker's willingness to reject and the indifferent preferences over each criteria.
