Methanol Extract of Longanae Arillus Regulates Sleep Architecture and EEG Power Spectra in Restraint-Stressed Rats

  • Longanae Arillus (the rind of fruits of Dimocarpus longan) has been consumed for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety in Asia. To provide further scientific basis to traditional uses of this fruit on insomnia, we evaluated the effects of methanol extract of Longanae Arillus (MELA) on the alteration of sleep architecture and electroencephalogram (EEG) power spectra in acutely and chronically restraint-stressed rats. Following postsurgical recovery, Polygraphic signs of sleep-wake activities were recorded for 24 h after MELA administration in rats. Rats in the acute stress and chronic stress were administered with MELA for 10 days. On the $8^{th},\;9^{th}\;and\;10^{th}$ day of MELA administration, the rats were stressed for 3 h once per day. On the $10^{th}$ day and 1 h after MELA administration, the rats were stressed once for 22 h in the chronic stress group. Acute and chronic stress induced alternations in cortex EEG recordings during non-rapid eye movement (NREM), rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and wakefulness. MELA shortened the total and REM sleep and increased the wakefulness in night time recording without changing daytime recordings. Chronic stress increased wakefulness and REM sleep, decreased total and NREM sleep in the daytime recording, and increased REM and decreased NREM sleep without changing total sleep and wakefulness in night time recording. These findings suggest that MELA ameliorated the alterations in REM and NREM sleep of acutely and chronically stressed rats via modulation of cortical ${\alpha}-$, ${\theta}-$ and ${\delta}-$ wave activity.

Novel deinterlacing algorithm using neighboring interlaced pixels directions statistics

  • This paper proposes a novel deinterlacing algorithm using neighboring deinterlacing pixels directions weight, which can obtain the true deinterlacing direction of the interpolated pixel. The proposed algorithm determines the direction of the current interpolated pixel using MELA direction determination method. To obtain more accurate deinterlacing direction and increase interpolation direction correlation, the directions of neighboring pixels around the current interpolated pixel are considered. The current direction and the neighboring majority direction are compared to decide an interpolated method. But it cost slightly CPU time increasing since neighboring pixels directions determination and statistics. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional deinterlacing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive de-interlacing algorithm that is based on the degree of local complexity. The conventional intra field de-interlacing algorithms show the different performance according to the ways which find the edge direction. Furthermore, FDD (Fine Directional De-interlacing) algorithm has the better performance than other algorithms but the computational complexity of FDD algorithm is too high. In order to alleviate these problems, the proposed algorithm selects the most efficient de-interacing algorithm among LA (Line Average), MELA (Modified Edge-based Line Average), and LCID (Low-Complexity Interpolation Method for De-interlacing) algorithms which have low complexity and good performance. The proposed algorithm is trained by the DoLC (Degree of Local Complexity) for selection of the algorithms mentioned above. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm not only has the low complexity but also performs better objective and subjective image quality performances compared with the conventional intra-field methods.

  • 일방향 해시 함수의 역함수 계산 어려움에 기반한 Hash Lock에 PKI방법을 적용하여 MetaID를 비밀키로써 사용한다. Reader는 미리 등록된 공개키(meta ID를 이용하여 생성된)로 Tag를 인증하고 meta ID로 각 Tag의 유일한 키(k)를 생성하며 이에 해당하는 mela ID = H(k)를 가지고 있다. 이 때 H()는 해쉬함수 이다. Tag는 자신의 비밀키를 이용하여 생성된 meta ID를 Reader에 보내고 Reader는 해당되는 키(k)를 만들어내고 Tag에 보낸다. 이때 Tag는 Reader로부터 보내어진 키(k)를 해쉬값과 자신의 meta ID를 비교하여, 그 값이 동일하면 자신의 ID를 전송한다. 이는 해쉬함수와 PKI만을 사용하므로 효율적이고 저비용으로 구현 가능하다.

  • Calcium hydroxide produced by cement hydration decreases the durability and the compressive strength of cement mortars. Pozzolanic property of meta kaolin and silica fume allows to avoid this drawback. Calcium hydroxide consumption according to pozzolanic raction is evaluated by Fourier differential thermal analysis. Particulary the properties of high performance and high strength of cement mortar containing above 10% meta kaolin and silica fume were resulted in the pozzolanic activity.

  • 이 논문에서는 향상된 움직임 적응적 디인터레이싱 알고리듬을 제안한다. 정확한 움직임 정보탐색을 위하여 Modified Edgd-based Line Average(MELA)기법, 연속된 5개의 필드에서의 움직임 탐색, 블록기반의 지역적 특성을 포함한다. 움직임 검출부분에서는 FIR필터를 이용한다. 이것은 물체의 움직임의 내부를 정확하게 탐색 할 뿐만 아니라, 영상에 포함된 잡음도 줄일수 있는 향상된 기법을 이용함으로서 계산 할 수 있다. 검출된 움직임의 정도에 따라서 가중치를 구하여 공간적 기법과 시간적 기법을 결합 시킨다. 제안된 방법의 영상 시퀀스에 대한 실험 결과는 기존의 방법들에 비하여 주관적, 객관적인 비교에서 우수함을 보여준다.

  • In bioassay-guided search for inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) inhibitory compounds from higher plants of South Korea, two $\beta$-carboline (2) have been isolated form the cortex of Melia azedarach var. japonica. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. Compounds 1 to 2 showed marked inhibitory activity of iNOS on LPS-and interferon-${\gamma}$-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells.

  • To search and development a new material with superior melanogenesis inhibitory activity, the bioactivities (obs. pl$_{50}$) of alkyl-3,4-dihydroxybenzoyl esters and N-alkyl-3,4-dihydroxybenz-oyl amides as substrate molecules were measured in mouse melanoma cells. And also, we have studied that 3-D QSARs (3 dimensional Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships) between molecular interaction field of substrates and the bioactivities were analyzed using CoMFA (Comparative Molecular Field Analyses) method. When cross-validation value (q$^2$) is 0.68 at 3 components, the Pearson correlation coefficient ($r^2$) is 0.900. From the basis on the findings, the model was appeared by the contour map such as steric field and electrostatic field relationships between quantitative structure and the bioactivity of the various substrate derivatives. Measured bioactivities (obs. pl$_{50}$) of unknown compounds are very similar to predicted activity (pred. pl$_{50}$) according to the CoMFA model. As the results of prediction, we could conclude that the bioactivities were increased by creation of R$_1$ substitution of 5,5-dime-thylhexoxy, 6,6-dimethylheptyl, 1-amino-6,6-dimethylheptyl group etc and R$_2$ substitution of hydroxy, methyl, methoxy group etc.p etc.

Inhibition of Preharvest Drops by AVG Foliar Application in Staking Cultivation of Oriental Melon (Cucumis melo L. var. makuwa Mak.) Plants (AVG 처리(處理)에 의한 지주재배(支柱栽培) 참외의 낙과억제(落果抑制))

  • The staking cultivation (SC) of oriental melon (Cucumis mela L. var. makuwa Mak.) produced more fruit yield than that of the conventional (creeping) growing. In the SC, preharvest fruit drop rate was high as 47.6% compared to 13.0% of the conventional cultivation. However, the foliar application of aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG, $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) at 2 weeks after flowering (20 days before harvest) greatly reduced fruit drops up to 10.9% without causing any effects on ripening and quality of fruits . The AVG application markedly suppressed ethylene production in harvested fruits.
