NtMEK2, which is the tobacco MAPK kinase that is upstream of SIPK and WIPK, was identified using the dexamethasone (DEX)-inducible gain-of-function transgenic system. Expression of $NtNEK2^{DD}$, a constitutively active mutant of NtNEK2, leads to HR-like cell death, which indicates that the NtMEK2-SIPK/WIPK cascade controls defense responses in tobacco. However, little is known about the downstream target substrates or defense-related genes that are regulated by the NtMEK2-SIPK/ WIPK cascade. In this study, ACP-based differential display RT-PCR was used to isolate the downstream effectors mediated by the NtMEK2-SIPK/WIPK cascade in $NtNEK2^{DD}$ transgenic plants. The results identified 6 novel differentially expressed genes (DEGs). These included pathogen induced protein 2-4 (pI2-4), monoterpene synthase 2 (MTS2), seven in absentia protein (SINA), cell death marker protein 1 (CDM1), hydroxyproline-rich glycoprotein (HRGP) and unknown genes (DEG45). The induction of these genes was confirmed by RT-PCR of samples obtained from $NtNEK2^{DD}$ plants. Additionally, when compared with other isolated DEGs, the pI2-4, CDM1 and HRGP genes were significantly up-regulated in response to treatment with salicylic acid and tobacco mosaic virus. Taken together, these results suggest that three novel DEGs were regulated by the NtMEK2-SIPK/WIPK cascade involved in disease resistance in tobacco.
Plasma-photocatalytic oxidation process was applied in the decomposition of Triethylamine(TEA) and Methyl ethyl ketone(MEK). Plasma reactor was made entirely of pyrex glass and consists of 24mm inner diameter, 1,800mm length and discharge electrode of 0.4mm stainless steel. And initial concentrations of TEA and MEK for plasma-photocatalytic oxidation are 100 ppm. Odor gas samples were taken by gas-tight syringe from a glass sampling bulb which was located at reactor inlet and outlet, and TEA and MEK were determined by GC-FID. For plasma process, the decomposition efficiency of TEA and MEK were evaluated by varying different flowrates and decomposition efficiency of TEA and MEK increased considerably with decreasing treatment flowrates. For photocatalytic oxidation process, also the decomposition efficiency of TEA and MEK increased considerably with decreasing treatment flowrates. The decomposition efficiency of MEK was 57.8%, 34.2%, 18.8% respectively and the decomposition efficiency of TEA was reached all 100%. This result is higher than that of plasma process only, From this study, the results indicate that plasma-photocatalytic oxidation process is ideal for treatment of TEA and MEK.
In this study, the incineration of MEK and toluene was studied on a Pt supported alumina catalyst at temperature range from 200 to $350^{\circ}C$. An approach based on the Mars-van Krevelen rate model was used to explain the results. The object of this study was to study the kinetic behavior of the platinum catalyst for deep oxidation. The conversions of MEK and toluene were increased as the inlet concentration was decreased and the reaction temperature was increased. The maximum deep conversion of MEK and toluene were 91.81% and 55.69% at $350^{\circ}C$, respectively. The ${\kappa}_3$ constant increases with temperature faster than the ${\kappa}_1$ constant, that is, the surface concentration of ($VOCs{\cdots}O$) is higher than that of (O) at higher temperature according to the Mars-van Krevelen mechanism. Also the activation energy of toluene was larger than MEK for toluene is aromatic compound which have stronger bonding energy. Therefore, the catalytic incineration kinetics of MEK and toluene with Mars-van Krevelen mechanism could be used as the basic data for industrial processes.

Biological exposure indices (BEI) of toluene, perchloroethylene (PCE) and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) for Korean workers were studied respectively. Environmental exposures in workplace to organic solvent were measured by personal sampling. Blood toluene, blood perchloroethylene, urinary trichloroacetic acid and urinary MEK were determined by headspace gas chromatography. Urinary hippuric acid were determined by HPLC and corrected by creatinine. BEIs for Korean workers were calculated as the levels of determinants which are correspond to permissible exposure limits in Korea. Blood toluene level of 2.2mg/l and urinary hippuric acid level of 1.7g/g creatinine are correspond to an exposure of 100 ppm toluene. Blood PCE concentration of 1.6mg/l and urinary trichloroacetic acid concentration of 2.9mg/l are correspond to an exposure of 50ppm PCE. Urinary MEK concentration of 1.0mg/l is correspond to an exposure of 200ppm of MEK. BEIs for Korean workers determined in this study are very different to ACGIH's BEI as urinary determinants are much lower and blood determinants are much higher than ACGIH's BEI.
In this study, optimization of MEK and Toluene removal was conducted by HTO(Hybrid Thermal Oxidation) system. HTO system has a multi-bed reaction plate and the plate consisted of wasted heat regeneration part and catalysis part. VOCs removal by HTO system was estimated by changing inlet flow rates with different valve changing times. Under $350^{\circ}C$ of combustion temperature, VOCs was fully converted and the equivalent conversion was 100%. The thermal oxidation efficiency, related to the amount of injected fuel into HTO system and the valve change time, was revealed at the level of 93.0~96.3%. In case of MEK removal by HTO system, the efficiency was ranged from 91.1 to 97.1%. Also, Toluene removal efficiency(93.2~97.4%) was good and stable with respect to the operating conditions. Considering above results, it was proved that HTO system could be a stable and compact system for VOCs, especially MEK and Toluene with high removal efficiency.

In this paper, The $TiO_2$ paste was prepared by changing the ratio of $TiO_2$(Degussa, P-25), binder (A-9540) and solvent. The paste was coated on to aluminuim metal plate to investigate the photodegradation of IPA. The best efficiency was obtained with increasing $TiO_2$ content and decreasing binder content. MEK is preferred to ethanol in terms of efficiency and the lower amount of solvent enhanced the rate. We, however, found the increasing viscosity of the paste and cracking with the lower content of solvent(MEK). In conclusion, the optimum activity was obtained when the ratio of $TiO_2$, Organic binder(A-9540) and MEK was 1.75 : 0.25 : 10.
The aim of this study is the development of biological removal process of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) in odor gas, which is generated from the waste food recycling process. To develop the removal process of odor gas, MEK, the selection of proper biofilter support was carried out. When the biofilter equipment was passed by synthetic odor gas composed of 250 ppm of MEK, the maximum removal was achieved to $586.6g-MEK/m^3\;hr$ for polypropylene fibril as support. Under the same experimental conditions, the maximum removal in polyurethane support was obtained to $359.7 g-MEK/m^3\;hr$. Finally, the maximum removal in volcanic stone support was $56.2g-MEK/m^3\;hr$.

The objective of this research is to improve the adsorption capacity of adsorbent made from MSWI (Municipal Solid Waste Incinerator) fly ash by surface oxidation. Used oxidation agents were $HNO_{3}$, $H_{2}SO_{4}$ and $(NH_{4})_{2}S_{2}O_{8}$. These agents can modify the surface property of an adsorbent such as specific surface area, pore volume, and functional group. The surface structure was studied by BET method with $N_{2}$ adsorption. The acid value and base value were determined by Boehm's method. The adsorption properties were investigated with benzene and MEK (Methylethylketone). According to the results, the specific surface area of the adsorbent was increased from 309.2 $m^{2}$/g to 553.2 $m^{2}$/g by $HNO_{3}$ oxidation. But $H_{2}SO_{4}$ and $(NH_{4})_{2}S_{2}O_{8}$ oxidation was decreased slightly. After Oxidation, surface acid value increased, but base value decreased. FAA-N shows the highest acid value. The content of oxygen increased greatly and oxygen group was created on the adsorbent surface. The surface oxidation improved the adsorbing capacity for MEK. The amount of adsorbing MEK was increased from 189 $m^{2}$/g to 639 $m^{2}$/g by $HNO_{3}$ oxidation.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the influence of cardamonin on vascular smooth muscle contractility and to determine the mechanism(s) involved. Denuded aortic rings from male rats were used and isometric contractions were recorded and combined with molecular experiments. Cardamonin significantly relaxed fluoride-, phenylephrine-, and phorbol ester-induced vascular contractions, suggesting that it has an anti-hypertensive effect on agonist-induced vascular contraction regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis. Furthermore, cardamonin significantly inhibited the fluoride-induced increase in pMYPT1 level and phenylephrine-induced increase in pERK1/2 level, suggesting inhibition of Rho-kinase and MEK activity and subsequent phosphorylation of MYPT1 and ERK1/2. This study provides evidence that the relaxing effect of cardamonin on agonist-induced vascular contraction regardless of endothelial function involves inhibition of Rho-kinase and MEK activity.
The aim of present study was to investigate the possible influence and related mechanism of resveratrol on U-46619 (high concentration)-induced vasoconstriction. Agonist-induced vascular smooth muscle contractions involve the activation of thick or thin filament pathway. However, there are no reports addressing the question whether this pathway is involved in resveratrol-induced relaxation in rat aortae contracted with high U-46619. We hypothesized that MEK or Rho-kinase inhibition plays a role in vascular relaxation evoked by resveratrol in rat aortae. Endothelium-denuded arterial rings from male Sprague-Dawley rats were used and isometric contractions were recorded using a computerized data acquisition system. Resveratrol fully inhibited U-46619 in low concentration-induced contraction regardless of endothelial function. However, resveratrol partially decreased U-46619 in high concentration-induced contraction regardless of endothelial function. Interestingly, only in U-46619 (high concentration)-induced contraction, no significant decrease was observed in phospho-ERK1/2 levels and slight decrease in phospho-MYPT1 levels suggesting that additional pathways different from them or endothelial nitric oxide synthesis might be involved in the vasorelaxation. In conclusion, in high U-46619-contracted rat aortae, resveratrol showed relaxation response regardless of endothelial function significantly but slightly decreasing MYPT1 phosphorylation rather than ERK1/2 phosphorylation.
