Characteristic of Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator by Multi-Pole Permancent Magnet Arrangement (영구자석 다극 배치에 의한 가동 코일형 리니어 진도 엑츄에이터의 특성)

  • In order to overcome the demerit and to improve the operation characteristics of Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MC-LOA) with single-pole permanent magnet, this paper presents two models having the balanced magnetic circuit by multi-pole permanent magnet. They are short coil type with two-pole single-sided and two-ple double-sided permanent magnet. The characteristics between single-pole and multi-pole permanent magnet type MC-LOA are compared. As a result, multi-pole type MC-LOA has more merits than single-pole type about operation characteristics improvement and machine volume. The characteristics analysis is performed by their dynamic analysis composed of kinetic and electric equations and Finite Element Method(FEM). The propriety of multi-pole type MC-LOA model is verified with analysis results.

  • The Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MC-LOA) is widely used in system needed reciprocation of short stroke. MC-LOA is suitable for high speed operation and correctness stroke control. This paper designed a MC-LOA to combine mechanical dynamic equation with electric dynamic equation. Electric dynamic equation was obtained from equivalent circuit and the parameters were obtained using Finite Element Method (FEM). Then, we analyzed the dynamic and steady state characteristics of the designed MC-LOA.

  • This paper deals with a study to improve the performance of Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator (MC-LOA) considering unbalanced magnetic circuit. MC-LOA has an unbalanced magnetic circuit due to its asymmetric structure. In this type of LOA, the airgap flux density tends to have different magnitude along mover's displacement and the current directions. The above property causes eccentric of displacement center and interferes with the proper oscillation of LOA. Therefore, this paper presents two models having the unbalanced magnetic circuit and the other balanced by the saturated core. In order to compare the characteristics between the two models, a characteristic analysis for both the basic model and the improved model is performed by their dynamic analysis composed of kinetic and electric equations and Finite Element Method (FEM). The propriety of the improved model is verified through the experimental results.

  • This paper presents an approach toward improving the performance of Moving Coil Type Linear Oscillatory Actuator (MC-LOA) with the application of Finite Element Method (FEM) to a simple control system. MC-LOA has an unbalanced magnetic circuit due to its asymmetric structure and there is a different flux distribution on the air-gap along the current direction. The interaction driven by two fluxes between the Permanent Magnet (PM) and the current causes the unbalanced thrust and interferes with the proper oscillation of MC-LOA. In order to solve the above problems and improve the driving performance, it is necessary to analyze the rate of the unbalanced thrust according to the current direction by using FEM. Then, the analysis results are used to determine the input currents for both directions. Controlling the input currents can be easily achieved by a simple control system, such as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), without complex units. The validity of the approach is verified by the experimental results.

  • A voice type Moving Coil Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MC-LOA) has unbalanced magnetic circuit structure. Its asymmetric magnetic flux distribution along the mover directions causes shifting of displacement center to one side. Therefore, this paper analyzes both thrust and displacement characteristics and settles the unbalanced flux problem by performing shape optimization. The propriety of the improved design model has been verified by dynamic analysis based on the coupling of kinetic and electric equations.
