Localization of Manduca sexta Allatotropin Neuropeptides in Developing Ventral Nerve Cord of the Silk Moth Bombyx mori

  • This study has been carried out to determine localization of Manduca sexta allatotropin (Mas-AT) neuropeptide in developing ventral nerve cord of the silk moth Bombyx mori with polyclonal antisera against Mas-AT. Suboesophageal ganglion (SOG) of the second to fifth instar larvae and 3-day-old pupae showed two to ten Mas-AT-immunoreactive (Mas-AT-IR) cell bodies. There were two to three pairs of labeled cell bodies in each thoracic ganglion (TG) from third instar larvae to adults, with the exception of TG from prepupae. One pair of labeled cell bodies was localized in each abdominal ganglion (AG) 1 to 6 from third instar larvae to 3-day-old pupae, whereas in 5-day-old pupae to adults there was one pair in a similar location of AG 1 to 5. The seventh neuromeres of terminal abdominal ganglia (TAG) from third instar Iarvae to 3- day-old pupae contained four labeled large cell bodies. In each of AG 1 to 7, these cell bodies showed similar allatotropin-immunoreactivity in appearance. Some labeled axons, projected from Mas-AT-lR cells in each of those AG, were extended to the nerves N 1 and N 2.

Efficacy of Serum Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio for Meconium Aspiration Syndrome

  • Objective: To evaluate the relationship between serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and severity of meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 197 neonates who admitted for MAS between 2008 and 2016 at the neonatal intensive care unit of Dong-A University Hospital. The serial changes of NLR were analyzed from 1st to 3rd day of life. The NLR was compared by disease severities (non-invasive respiratory care group vs. invasive respiratory care group and MAS with or without persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn [PPHN]). Results: The NLR values from 1st to 3rd day of life significantly increased and then decreased (P=0.031). The NLR of invasive respiratory care group was significantly higher than non-invasive respiratory care group at 2nd, 3rd, and average of 1 to 3 days of life. The NLR of PPHN group was significantly higher than without PPHN group at 3rd, and average of 1 to 3 days of life. Conclusion: The NLR was significantly increased and then decreased in early stage of MAS and associated with the severity of MAS.

  • This study attempted to analyze the influence of both internal and external business environment factors on the characteristics of the management accounting system (MAS). For this, external business environment factors were divided into environmental uncertainty and market competition while internal factors were classified into management strategy, organizational structure and advanced manufacturing technology. In addition, the characteristics of the MAS were categorized into information scope, timeliness, integration and aggregation. The study results found the followings: Among business environment factors, environmental uncertainty had a relatively significant effect on the scope, integration and aggregation of information while organizational structure revealed the largest influence on timeliness. However, market competition had no particular effect on the characteristics of the MAS.

  • In this paper, a modified adaptive sign (MAS) algorithm based on a mixed norm error criterion is proposed. The mixed norm error criterion of be minimized is constructed as a combined convex function of the mean-absolute error and the mean-absolute error to the third power. A convergence analysis of the MAS algorithm is also presented. Under a set of mild assumptions, a set of nonlinear evolution equations that characterizes the statistical mean and mean-squared behavior of the algorithm is derived. Computed simulations are carried out to verify the validity of our derivations.

  • This paper outlines our approach and the underlying design principles aimed at the generation of a theory of coordination. Such theory would assist in designing new Multi-Agent Systems(MAS) and provide trouble-shooting tools for suboptimally functioning MAS. This paper also describes the decisions that have been made in this endeavor. We have been able to show via a simplified model that approach is feasible and can produce results.

  • Heteropoly compounds, H3PMo12O40, CsxH3-xPMo12O40, and vanadium containing heteropoly compound were characterized by Solid-state broad line 1H MAS NMR, 31P MAS NMR, and High Speed MAS 51V NMR spectroscopy of quadrupolar nuclei. The effects of calcination, dehydration, and the number of protons on the structure of heteropoly compounds were studied. The results of this study demonstrate that these Solid-state NMR techniques are very useful tools to study heteropoly compounds.

The Change of Production Technology and the Information Satisfaction of Management Accounting (생산기술의 변화와 관리회계 정보의 만족도)

  • This study empirically examined the relationship between the level of advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) and the information amount of management accounting, such as nonperiodic and future information, and nonfinancial performance. We also investigated the effects of the fit between AMT and accounting informations on the performance of management accounting-information systems (MAS). In this study, the information satisfaction about MAS is used as the surrogate of MAS performance. The results show that the information amount of management accounting is positively associated with the stage of AMT. It is also proved that the information amount of MAS which matches with the level of AMT increases the information satisfaction. However, the information amount that is not compatible with the stage of AMT can not contribute to the improvement of information satisfaction.

  • The molecular structure and dynamics of inclusion compounds (ICs) consisting of n-perfluoroalkane (PFA) guests and ${\Box}-cyclodextrin$ (${\Box}-CD$) host were investigated using $^{19}F$ magic angle spinning (MAS) and $^{1}H{\to}^{19}F$ cross polarization (CP) / MAS NMR spectroscopy with the aid of thermal analyses, FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and $^{1}H{\to}^{19}F$ CP/MAS technique revealed that $C_{9}F_{20}$ molecules included in ${\Box}-CD$ undergo vigorous molecular motion and partly come out of the ${\Box}-CD$ channel above $80^{\circ}C$. In case of $C_{20}F_{42}/{\Box}-CD$, an exothermic peak is observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at ca. $40^{\circ}C$ which suggests that ${\Box}-CD$ molecules become mobile and commence rearrangements that form more ordered structures at higher temperatures.

A Solid-State NMR Study of Water in Poly(vinyl butyral) by Magic Angle Spinning

  • Poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) with different wt% water was studied gravimetrically as well as with 1H magic angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The composition of PVB samples changes during MAS NMR because of the centrifugal force. As MAS time progresses, initially free water was removed fast but bound water also was gradually depleted. More water was diminished at faster spinning speeds, longer spinning time, higher temperatures, and higher initial water contents. As water in PVB was reduced, the chemical shifts and line widths of different types of water and also those of PVB changed. Our results demonstrate that 1H MAS NMR carried out at 10 kHz in less than about 5 minutes is a convenient and sensitive technique to measure: (a) the content variations of different types of water in polymers, (b) the degree of the interaction of water and polymer, and (c) the molecular dynamics of the polymer. Our study can be extended to different soft polymers with other small molecules than water in them.

  • The synthesis and regioselective reactions of a chiral allyl sulfide. (S)-(+)-(1-methylpyrrolidin-2-yl)methyl allyl sulfide (MAS, 1) are described. Remarkable ${\alpha}-regioselectivity$ was observed in the alkylation of the carbanion of MAS while 1:3 mixtures of ${\alpha}-and\;{\gamma}-adducts$ were produced in the addition of the MAS anion to aldehydes. However, a dramatic change of the regioselectivity was witnessed when Lewis acids such as $Et_3Al$, $Et_3B$, and $Ti(O^iPr)_4$ were used as additives in the addition reaction. In these cases, ${\alpha}-adducts$ were formed exclusively. A rationale for the change of regioselectivity is provided. And the stereochemical aspect of the addition reaction is also described.
