Characterization of Alternaria alternata ${\alpha}-Amylase$ (Alternaria alternata ${\alpha}-Amylase$의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The ${\alpha}-amylase$ of Alternaria alternata was purified through ammonium sulfate precipitation, dialysis and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. One single band was obtained in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The optimum pH for enzyme activity was 5.0 and the enzyme activity was maintained at $3.6{\sim}7.0$pH range. The optimum temperature for ${\alpha}-amylase$ activity was $40^{\circ}C$ and 71% of the activity was still maintained until 30 min after heating at $80^{\circ}C$. The ${\alpha}-amylase$ was slightly activated by $Mn^{2+},\;Zn^{2+}\;and\;Sn^{2+}$, but inhibited by $Ba^{2+},\;Pb^{2+},\;Co^{2+}\;and\;Ag^{1+}$. The $Hg^{2+}\;and\;Ag^{2+}$ slightly inhibited the activity of the enzyme at concentrations of $10^{-3}\;and\;10^{-4}M$. The Michaelis constant $(K_m)$ to soluble starch was $6.50{\times}10^{-2}M$ and inhibition constant $(K_i)$ by the 1mM EDTA was $8.0{\times}10^{-2}M$. The inhibition of this enzyme by EDTA was competitive one.

Determination of Li generated from 10B(n·α)7Li reaction in Boric acid solution (붕산수용액에서 10B(n·α)7Li 핵반응에 의해 생성된 Li 정량)

  • Thermal neutron irradiation experiment of boric acid solution was carried out using HANARO in following three conditions: (A) $^{10}B$ concentration = $203.0{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (B) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 1 hr; (C) $^{10}B$ concentration = $381.4{\mu}g/mL$, irradiation time = 0.5 hr. The amount of lithium produced from $^{10}B(n{\cdot}{\alpha})^7Li$ reaction which was generated on neutron irradiation, was measured by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentration of $^7Li$ measured in the three experiments was $0.18{\mu}g/mL$ (78.3% of theoretical value, $0.23{\mu}g/mL$) in (A), $0.31{\mu}g/mL$ (70.5% of theoretical value, $0.44{\mu}g/mL$) in (B) and $0.16{\mu}g/mL$ (71.6% of theoretical value, $0.22{\mu}g/mL$) in (C). The pH value of irradiated boric acid was shifted to considerably low. It is estimated that boric acid would be transformed into the polyborate fonn, by radiolysis products of water, which has high dissociation constant.

Enhancement of Glucose Oxidation Reaction in Enzyme Biofuel Cell Utilizing Anthracene Dicarboxyl acid Cross-linker (Anthracene dicarboxyl acid 가교제를 활용한 효소연료전지의 산화극의 포도당 산화반응 향상)

  • In this study, an anthracene cross-linker is introduced to enhance the catalytic activity of glucose oxidase (GOx) based catalysts and to increase the amount of enzyme loading. The crosslinked GOx is bonded with the CNT/PEI support using the electrostatic interaction (AC[CNT/PEI/GOx]). Electrochemical evaluations are done to evaluate the performance of this catalyst and the performance of CNT/PEI/GOx catalyst is also measured as a control. According to the measurements, it is confirmed that the amount of loaded GOx increases, while $K_m$ value calculated by Lineweaver-Burk plot shows that AC[CNT/PEI/GOx] ($K_m$ : 0.73 mM) is superior to CNT/PEI/GOx ($K_m$ : 1.71 mM) without cross-linking reaction. Based on these effects, it is demonstrated that the maximum power density of the enzymatic biofuel cell using AC[CNT/PEI/GOx] increases from $21.2{\mu}W/cm^2$ to $57.4{\mu}W/cm^2$.

STUDIES ON PROTEIN DEGRADABILITIES OF FEEDSTUFFS IN BANGLADESH

  • This experiment was conducted to determine RDP values of locally available feedstuffs that are commonly used in ruminant rations in Bangladesh. Four cattle were fistulated in the rumen for the in situ nylon bag studies. Seventeen different feedstuff sample (9 roughages and 8 concentrates) were evaluated in $4{\times}14cm$ nylon bags and incubated in the rumen for different periods of time (2, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h). The variation in crude protein (CP) contents reflected on the average CP disappearance value throughout the rumen incubation. Soluble fraction (a), insoluble but degradable fraction (b) along with the rate of degradation also varied widely among the various feedstuffs. Under 2% of rumen outflow rate, the percentages of the calculated protein degradabilities of roughages were rice straw, 16.7; maize grass, 70.6; oat grass, 70.8; dhal grass, 71.1; sunhemp, 78.4; napier grass, 62.4; matikalai grass, 72.1; khesarikalai grass, 76.9 and daincha browse, 78.4, respectively. The results in the protein degradabilities (%) in 8% ruminal outflow rate of concentrates were wheat bran, 61.6; rice polish (red), 61.3; rice polish (auto), 30.9; mustard oil cake, 71.8; sesame oil cake, 74.2; coconut oil cake, 57.9; soybean meal, 49.2 and fish meal, 37.9, respectively.

Low Complexity FMCW Surveillance Radar Algorithm Using Phase Difference of Dual Chirps (듀얼첩간 위상차이를 이용한 저복잡도 FMCW 감시 레이더 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a low complexity frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) surveillance radar algorithm. In the conventional surveillance radar systems, the two dimensional (2D) fast Fourier transform (FFT) method is usually employed in order to detect the distance and velocity of the targets. However, in a surveillance radar systems, it is more important to immediately detect the presence or absence of the targets, rather than accurately detecting the distance or speed information of the target. In the proposed algorithm, in order to immediately detect the presence or absence of targets, 1D FFT is performed on the first and M-th bit signals among a total of M beat signals and then a phase change between two FFT outputs is observed. The range of target is estimated only when the phase change occurs. By doing so, the proposed algorithm achieves a significantly lower complexity compared to the conventional surveillance scheme using 2D FFT. In addition, show in order to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the simulation and the experiment results are performed using 24GHz FMCW radar module.

  • The rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophillus are major pests of aquatic rice plant throughout the country. In field, we examined efficacy of Steinernema carpocapsae and Xenorhabdus nematophilus against rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus. Steinernema carpocapsae showed 71-74.2% mortality after 15days in the field. Also symbiotic bacteria Xenorhabdus nematophilus isolated from Steinernema carpocapsae showed 33.3-58.3% mortality after 15days at vat against rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus.

Properties and Thermal Characteristics of Phenol Foam for Heat Insulating Materials (단열재용 페놀폼의 물성과 열적특성)

  • In this study, we studied the physical properties and application of PF foam as heat insulating materials. In the experimental results, the density of PF foam showed $0.030g/cm^3$ and the thermal conductivity showed $0.026kcal/m.h.^{\circ}C$. Also, thermal resistance of the prepared PF foam was volatilized about 71.7 wt% when the temperature was $500^{\circ}C$ (1 h). And the chemical structure of PF foam have a closed cell type in the important properties as heat insulating materials. Therefore, it was confirmed that the prepared PF foam had excellent performance as heat insulating materials.

  • This paper proposes a low-power carry look-ahead adder using multi-threshold voltage CMOS. The designed adder is compared with conventional CMOS adder. The propagation delay time is reduced by using low-threshold voltage transistor in the critical path. Also, the power consumption is reduced by using high-threshold voltage transistor in the shortest path. The other logic block is implemented with normal-threshold transistor. Comparing with the conventional CMOS circuit, the proposed circuit is achieved to reduce the power consumption by 14.71% and the power-delay-product by 16.11%. This circuit is designed with Samsung $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The validity and effectiveness are verified through the HSPICE simulation.

The main sequence of star forming galaxies at intermediate redshift

  • processes at the origin of the star formation in the galaxies over the last 10 billions years. While it was proposed in the past that merging of galaxies has a dominant role to explain the triggering of the star formation in the distant galaxies having high star formation rates. In the opposite, more recent studies revealed scaling laws linking the star formation rate in the galaxies to their stellar mass or their gas mass. The small dispersion of these laws seems to be in contradiction with the idea of powerful stochastic events due to interactions, but rather in agreement with the new vision of galaxy history where the latter are continuously fed by intergalactic gas. I was especially interested in one of this scaling law, the relation between the star formation (SFR) and the stellar mass (M*) of galaxies, commonly called the main sequence of star forming galaxies. I have studied this main sequence, SFR-M*, in function of the morphology and other physical parameters as the radius, the colour, the clumpiness. The goal was to understand the origin of the sequence's dispersion related to the physical processes underlying this sequence in order to identify the main mode of star formation controlling this sequence. This work needed a multi-wavelength approach as well as the use of galaxies profile simulation to distinguish between the different galaxy morphological types implied in the main sequence.

Exhaled Nitric Oxide(NO) Among Adult Male Workers (성인남성 근로자들의 호기중 일산화질소)

  • Nitric Oxide(NO) is produced in many organs of the body, including the lung and airways, and it is detectable in the exhaled air. The measurement of exhaled NO(eNO) provides a simple non-invasive means for measuring airway inflammation, such as asthma. We measured eNO among adult male workers to examine the distribution of eNO in healthy people and to find factors affecting eNO. We measured eNO in a sample of 921 adult workers who also performed lung function test and skin prick test. Exhaled NO was measured in a sitting posture without using a nose clip and NO free gas. NO was measured at three expiratory rates(l8; 42; 71 $m\ell$/sec) and the flow rate of 71 $m\ell$/sec was used in analysis. The average eNO concentration was 5.29 $\pm$ 2.98 ppb. The level increased with age but not significantly(P=0.0529). Exhaled NO showed positive relations to the height(P=0.0001), pollen 1 (P=0.0124), asthma history(P=0.0212), allergic rhinitis symptom(P=0.0302). Exhaled NO Concentration of smokers( 4.62 ppb) was significantly lower than that of nonsmokers(5.99 ppb; P<0.0001).
